So you're making a projection using a linear regression made with 2 data points.

So developed on Unreal engine 4.. I really hope they keep the art style in line. These renders whoever made them are pretty bad, off model. That said, crossing 1.3 soon

I'm hoping they add new KS tiers soonish. I want to go up from my $500 pledge.

So much insane swag comes with that $500 tier. Tons of shirts and books and CDs and everything.

I will cherish that Yu Suzuki autograph.

This is the most I've ever pledged on a single kickstarter.

Clearly this is getting funded :) what a time to be alive.

I wonder if they'll put Shenmue 1 and 2 out on PS4... Would seem a missed opportunity not to.

Kickstarter is there for the devs to listen to their fans. If a huge amount of people ask for X1 and Wii U version, they should take that into consideration with a stretch goal but if Sony is bankrolling them after fans front them as much as they they can squeeze out of us then what's the point of kickstarting this?

Sony is bankrolling after the kickstarter is done? You're right, what's the point? Maybe to gauge how series gamers want this game :/

Planet Harriers dude

Planet Harriers

After burner Climax as an Arcade in Shenmue would be off the hook!! However, it will no doubt be done by Yu Suzuki touched game, so the game to make everyone so absolutely ape-shit will be Virtua Racing, G-LOC, F355 Challenge and more and with all multiplayer online!

Planet Harriers will be INSANE though! INSANE!!!

god, finally played & beat that one a few years back, sooooo good...awesome choice

Suzuki just posted this on Twitter.

awwwwwwwww
this is the best day ever! so glad to see a legend getting his due~

backed for the digital copy... like a girlfriend dumping you out of nowhere then years later text you wanting to clear the air... i can finally have closure.

Yes.

The Last Guardian
Shenmue 3
FFIV Remake

the trifecta is complete. The pheonix rises.

I should have been in bed an hour ago but I'm still too amped about this. Between this, the Last Guardian, and the FF7 remake, I'm happier about gaming than I have been in a decade.

I can't believe in this. I am watching this announced and crying. Almost 15 years of waiting and only 2 mln $.

They just got almost 1,3 mln. :)

Look at this guy, all this pure unbridled joy at this. You did it Huber, dreams came true. Man just look at him, and then he just continues weeping tears of joy through the stream, so happy for him.

You have no idea unless you were there and into shenmue at the time.

It's such a slow burn - a lot of people can't get into it because the story is so slow to get started. But it's slow for a reason - it lays an extremely solid foundation with lots of backstory and motivation. Shenmue II ends just as the story kicks into high gear.

I am so ridiculously stoked for this because, as someone who has played a lot of video games in my lifetime, Shenmue remains one of the better gaming stories told. It's a really classic Kung Fu story. It doesn't feel cheesy or derivative, it feels definitive.

Shenmue II ends just as they started introducing some mystical stuff into the series. Before that, it had been a very grounded, realistic take on Kung Fu action. When Shenmue II ended, it looked like the series was posed to go down just like Dragonball - not Z, Dragonball, the original.

I've been waiting to see what happens next for 15 fucking years! Holy shit!!

Sitting there, fifty feet or so from the stage when that announcement was made...was the greatest moment of my life.

I hugged strangers, lost my voice, and flipped a chair into the next row.

Worth it.

Shenmue: The Movie (this was actually released in theaters in Japan)

Shenmue II: The Movie (fan creation)

I recommend people at least hold off on watching Shenmue II. You play Shenmue I more for the experience of an amazingly intricate handcrafted world, not so much the story. Shenmue II, by contrast, is very story driven.

Actually playing Shenmue II makes the beats hit harder, especially when it crescendos just as your heart starts beating. Shenmue I, by comparison, has much fewer peaks.

What are the chances for a Shenmue 1 & 2 port to PSN? I can't be the only one wanting this right? Also the digital release cost is only 30$, anyone else thinking the game will be more in the vein of a Telltale game? The kickstarter budget goal also kinda reflect this, 2 mil won't be full blown AAA stuff.

I really really hope we end up with HD remasters of 1 and 2. Don't want to shell out for a DC just to play them, and no doubt the prices are already skyrocketing.

Sounds like a good stretch goal. Assuming he can get the rights of and has the source code of.

So you're making a projection using a linear regression made with 2 data points.

Let a man dream for god's sake.

Certainly going to hit $2M easily considering it's only a few hours since it went live. I've yet to be paid, and when I do, Shenmue Kickstarter here I come. As with many others I preusme.

Something tells me this is going to be one of the most successful KS campaigns ever.

Most likely.

Also whoever owns the account that started the KS has the name "Joel Tess" as their verified identity ;P

I hope they're able to do physical PS4 copies and stuff.

Still feeling hopelessly giddy about that entire conference, hours later. Spent the last few hours debating between the $300 and $500 tiers and ended up going for the latter. First time I've ever backed a Kickstarter, but this just feels like a once in a lifetime opportunity -- it's not going to happen to anything else that meant anything to me as a kid, so time to go all in. I do hope there'll be remasters of the first two and a physical PS4 version (I'd lean towards that over a PC one), but I'm fine with playing it on PC too.

...It's going to be tempting to leave the whole thing sealed and just buy a separate digital copy anyway, though.

Isn't the physical soundtrack for Shenmue III and not I/II?

In any case, it's not a bad deal. That signed illustration is worth the price alone. I know I'm tempted to upgrade my pledge. >_<

Edit: Wow, I just read that it's indeed a soundtrack of the original release. Great stuff.

"The original soundtrack with unreleased tracks." Although, I guess that means the OST of Shenmue 3, not the soundtrack of the first two games (English is not my first language and I'm not much of a music listener tbh, so I'm not even sure about the terminology lol.) But Shenmue 2 didn't have fully separate soundtrack either (I might be wrong though), so Shenmue 3 will probably have many of the same songs as the earlier two, too. Whatever the case... It's done.

EDIT: Didn't read your edit. Nvm. :)

In for a hundred. Seriously thought about buying the dinner.

Shenmue 1/2 are my favorite games ever. So happy. Even if they piss this money away I don't care

Is this for real?! OMG! This E3 is the best we have had for years!

PS: The digital rewards could have been better though so it can create moire incentive for people to get a higher tier.

I hugged strangers, lost my voice, and flipped a chair into the next row.

I will live vicariously through you. After I heard the music, I lost my shit. No idea why they sprung that with a half hour left in the conference because I didn't hear another word, just started mashing the link to Kickstarter as fast as possible. Backer #316. As others have said, it's my new favorite number :)

I am stoked that people in the audience, including yourself lost their shit. Must have been incredible!
