I'm just stating what it appears to be to me.

Like I said, it sure appears like that to me. Every time I come back to to GB to see what's new I get reminded of it.

Its really hard to change your opinion when you just pick and choose what you've seen. Did you watch their reactions to Cuphead? No Mans Sky? Jeff being excited for the dumb FMV in Need For Speed? Horizon? Anything? Or was it all white noise because they just hate everything?

How about really enthusiastic about ANYTHING that is announced by anyone? Like others have said (and I certainly agree) there were positive comments made, but it was just a monotone remark and a bunch of head nods. At this point HL3 could be announced, and its free and comes with a free working gravity gun and these guys will be like "looks cool" *nods* "yeah but that gravity gun will probably be gimmicky" Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on these guys because they don't agree with me, its just that I just want them to be excited about something in this medium, the cynicism is overwhelming.

It would have been nice to finish watching the show thinking "oh gaming is great" instead of "meh games".

Fair enough. I watched a bunch of them and they seemed quite positive and excited about a number of other things.

The only thing I am worried about Cuphead is that it is basically just a boss rush, I believe. Like Titan Souls. I hope there are a fair amount of bosses.

Before E3 starts I always tell myself "It'll be refreshing to see Giant Bomb be critical and realistic during E3."

Then E3 comes and I'm a kids who had just been told he's going to Disneyland.

And Giant Bomb reminds me of the terrible 20 hour drive to get there, and how it's mostly waiting in line any way, and none of it is real, and Disney is a corrupt corporation that singlehandedly destroyed the copyright system of the USA.

It's tough. The dream of awesome games is part of the fun of being into video games.

Well I for one enjoyed their commentary on the press conferences.

It doesn't look like they are covering the PCGamer show though or at least I didn't see it on their schedule.

What do you actually want to see? It's a reaction stream made in the moment, one wouldn't expect all that much to actually be happening. If they see a game they really like(such as Horizon) how should they as professional paid adults act instead?

Well if professional sports casters casted sports like these guys casted press conferences (obvious talking about emotions not giving a constant play by play) then it would be take a lot of the fun out of watching it. Game winning shot at the last second = "Oh, he makes an okay shot". You can be a paid professional adult and still show some excitement about what you are passionate about.

In either case, I have made my point in this thread, you obviously disagree so I will leave it at this. I'm glad you guys are enjoying the coverage GB is providing, but if I want to celebrate the medium I'll look elsewhere.

So this e3 has been pretty fucking magical so far. Definitely one to remember for the ages. We havent had one of these legendary e3's in awhile.

And the fun isnt even over yet. Tomorrow, Nintendo has the chance to put an exclamation mark on this event with some of the most asked for titles from fans. I cant wait to see what else is next.

I swear to god Mother 3 and a new Metroid Prime for NX are gonna get announced tomorrow

Sports are a live event where ideally no one knows what is going to happen or who is going to win. Of course you commentate what is happening in a lively manner because sports are a violent, active thing. E3 on the other hand is a bunch of precanned trailers and marketing lingo. You're basically judging commercials.

There are plenty of sports commentators who are more laid back though. Lively still isn't dancing about.

Listen, it's okay to not get excited about endless remakes, sequels, and CGI trailers for games that won't be out for two years.

The different and unique stuff that has been announced (which is few and far between) has been met with genuine enthusiasm from what I've seen.

Dunno about the US but for cricket the best sportcasters are the ones who are more sedate and analytical. The overly enthusiastic jingoistic ones are honestly the worst. In fact the most revered cricket commentator of them all was revered due to how calm he was.

I enjoyed watching the GB and GT reactions to today's events. My personal feelings were both kinds of reactions at the same time, and that's okay. Humans are complex, we can hold two seemingly contradictory feelings at the same time.

I'm glad there are different types of coverage to watch all over the internet so everyone can find their kindred spirits. Happy E3 to all, and stop yer bitchin!

Yeah, I've been following Giant Bomb for years and I love these guys but this was kind of painful to watch. It's not because of the fact that they were dismissive about games I care about because I have no intention to ever play Shenmue 3. Jeff has the weidest taste in games I've ever seen and I almost never agree with him and that has never bothered me before, but it seemed like they all went out of their way to turn every announcement into a negative.

If Dan is the one that has to defend the FF7 announcement then something is seriously wrong. I thought he was by far the more interesting one during the Sony stream, he wasn't jumping around but he wasn't jaded either. Too bad he didn't talk that much.

Would seem weird since they didn't properly announce the nx yet

It'll be something like "We are planning a new Metroid Prime for the next generation" or some shit

But I'm pretty sure I'm not completely crazy anymore for thinking Mother 3 will get a virtual console release. Mother 1 completely came out of nowhere Sunday night.

I love their podcast, I'm a premium member and I usually love Jeff's snark and cynicism but I had a real hard time getting any enjoyment out of watching them during the press conferences. It just seemed to me like they were trying too hard to take a dig at everything, until finally someone said this looks kinda cool, at which point everyone suddenly chimed in. Announcements I was actually excited about seemed to get shot down by them for no apparent reason. I can't really formulate my problems with it that well but the overall vibe in that room just seemed depressing to me for most of it. I agree that they need guests to liven them up because it seems like they're almost afraid to be enthusiastic or talk about something seriously unless someone else initiates it which seems a little ridiculous to me.

Man, thank goodness for GB. They remind that I am not alone in finding remakes of 20 year old games and mega corporations turning to crowd funding as something to be super excited for.

The new IP announced so far this year has looked super cool, its getting drowned out by FFVII. Ugh.

They could of been a little bit more enthusiastic.

For what?

A game very few of them liked the first time around getting remade in lieu of a new game? (FF7)
A game that has been in development hell for two console generations, only to get re-announced with ANOTHER nebulous release date? (TLG)
A sequel to a game very few of them hold any reverence for, which was not even an announcement, but a plea for money?(ShenIII)

They really liked Horizon, even though they've never been big Guerilla fans. They thought Uncharted 4 looked nice, but worried it would be more of the same with no eye to solving problems with the previous games. Brad liked Destiny, and everyone seemed to latch onto the Devolver Digital stuff. I think they could be a little more receptive of Firewatch, but most of them (especially Jeff) have generally not been big on "story-heavy, gameplay-lite" games.

I totally agreed with Austin's assessment of the show afterward: 3 distinct parts, but only the new stuff was all that interesting, unless you hold special reverence for their clear nostalgia part.

I thought jeff wasn't nearly as cynical as brad was.

Been a big fan of GB since 2008 but i have to agree. Things have changed over there, it's not the same anymore.

It was a totally reasonable reaction from them(well, maybe not Brad and FF7), one I echo in a lot of ways.

it's also recognising that i don't enjoy theme parks very much lol

Yeah, you're definitely right. I guess I named Jeff because I'm used to him being extremely negative but that usually amuses me more than anything even when it's about games I love like Majora's Mask...
I'm ok with Jeff and Brad being negative but it really seemed forced this time and the other guys (with the exception of Dan) were not even trying to provide a contrast to their attitude.

I miss Patrick ! Even when he didn't like something he tried to be open-minded about it. I remember when he covered Etrian Odyssey for the site, he ended up not really liking the game but at least he gave it a shot...

How do you guys rank the giant bomb e3 sets?
What were all of them at this point?

2009 - Frat House
2010 - Frat House again
2011 - Creeper Space
2012 - Place they were robbed from
2013 - Porn Studio
2014 - last year's place

I forget what they did in 2008 though. Maybe that was Frat House year 1 and I'm forgetting someplace else before the creeper space?
