Xbox One adds Xbox 360 backwards compatibility

Why not make a original Xbox emulator. ;) :P

Shouldn't that even be easier for Microsoft to do than it was for this to happen? The Xbox One and original Xbox architecture are much more similar than the Xbox One and 360 architecture, unless I'm mistaken.

I was just screwing around and made a Banjo Tooie clip. I don't know why the overscan is so bad.

How do you bring up the 360 guide? The quest said you could do this and I couldn't figure out how (or know why you would). It was kind of interesting how all the popups saying friends online, etc were 360 style.

This is cool, I hope MS doesn't abandon this like last-gen and that Sony gets into the game (at least get PSOne running lazy pricks). The initial list is basic titles + games in the Rare collection which doesn't inspire the most hope ever, but gotta start somewhere.

Not sure if answered, but can I play a 360 game on my Xbox One and still have the wife playing a game on the actual Xbox 360, under my Gamertag?

Not likely under your GT as you can only be logged into one 360 at a time on your GT.

If it is a disc game, you'll also need the disc in whichever console you are using.

Now if it is a digital game you can take advantage of the 360 licensing system. Have all the physical console licenses on your real 360. Then your wife could play those on the real 360 under HER GT, while you play the digital versions on the Xbox One under YOUR GT.

Can't they add backwards compatibility to Xbox games that were backwards compatible with Xbox 360? Why limit your gaming vault, MS

It would be a lot smarter (and simpler) to create an OG Xbox emulator for the One than to emulate inside an emulated system.

What? If your console dies, can't you buy a used one, and download your digital games to it? Why would you need to hack it? =/

I was talking farther down the line. With BC for digital libraries active, there is a business reason to keep the servers up. Without BC, there is a higher chance that those older servers would come down sooner. Look at the original Xbox. Xbox Live v1 was decommissioned. There is no way to access DLC or XBLA games from that system if your original system dies aside from hacking/modding.

So does this take advantage of better load times for example? And does it uprez or do any other visual tweaks? There's some 360 games I would love to have again!

It should be just like running them on a real 360, no better, no worse, if the emulator is ideal. In reality there will likely be small differences, but it shouldn't be anything huge if the team did their job right.

Sweet, can't wait to try this out. Let's hope they can build a big enough library in a small time period. Could someone send me an invite for the preview program? GT = superjona97

I was already thinking of picking up a One maybe after the next price drop/slim model, but now I definitely am.

I've never owned any Xbox console before, so getting access to the 360 library as well would be kind of crazy for me.

So after struggling to figure out why Banjo N+B and Small Arms do not appear as ready to install on the One...I'm just now finding out that neither show up as purchased for me on xbox.com. Both show up in my purchase/download history but if I go to the product page, it wants to charge me again if I click "buy" it with the same account that already owns the license. This is weird. I bought VP:TiP on the same day as Banjo N+B and no issues there.

Probably not the only two games in my purchase history that are going to be like this either. The all digital future scares me guys.

Played about an hour of Mass Effect.

Framerate issues are really hitting it when action picks up.

It looked like that in the demo. Sub 20-fps.

I applaud the intent, but if the execution is anything like Xbox to Xbox 360...

I'm furious I never responded to the message sent from Xbox inviting me to the preview program. Such a stupid idea that messages automatically delete after 30 days.

:(

Do we know yet how this all works? Emulation?

I bet its a 360 VM, throw enough cores and RAM at something at it will run. Not to mention that the 360 uses DirectX and even though it was PowerPC it was similar to a PC. I never thought they would dedicate resources to it, but Phil Spencer continues to surprise and delight me with the way he turned that ship around.

PS3 to PS4 emulation would be an entirely different beast, the cell would be a bear to write a VM for.

hmm. is Banjo Nuts and Bolts up? pretty sure i own this digitally, in fact i know i do, its installed on my 360, but it isnt showing under my ready to install list

can anyone help?

Nuts and Bolts is not yet supported. Banjo Kazooie and Tooie are tho.

Add Fusion Frenzy plxorz.

The question is though, do achievements unlock for these games? This is the factor for my care meter to go up 3 notches.

I kindof doubt that. spreading it out over more cores would be incredibly messy and I don't think each core is powerful enough to do emulation. I'm guessing you download a converted executable

sorry, this has probably been answered several times already. But there wasnt an answer in that xbox video. Do you have to keep the disc in the console after you download a game? I am assuming you do, or people could exploit the hell out of it

Nuts and Bolts is on the initial list.

I don't see it.
