This makes too much sense. They can't even announce Banjo Threeie.

Yup

I love this trend by Sony.

Shenmue used members of the legendary Sega Sound Team, which was Sega's in-house music talent. SST has been pretty much Yu Suzuki's go-to sound guys his entire career; while they did other Sega stuff, they primarily handled Yu Suzuki's project. They are known for basically all the greatest Sega songs throughout the years.

I wouldn't doubt for a minute they'll come back for this.

I don't doubt the team, but I'm curious as to what original assets they have access to. Assuming they were properly archived, can they pull from that material at their leisure or is it not even practical to source from that?

Never played the originals but I've followed the hype for years. Backer #185 :)

Remaster might be pushing our luck but I'd settle for a straight up port with no extra work so I could play the originals in some capacity.

What a beautiful day.

Only in 2015 would a respected game developer have to beg people for money.

This is demeaning.

I mean it's awesome that the game is coming out, but demeaning.

I have no interest in Shenmue 3.

I think it's unbelievably, amazing, incredibly cynical and corporate for Sony to use stage time at E3 to pawn off the development funding for Shenmue to its fans on Kickstarter during a live presentation of their systems best.

But!

All that aside, I think it's awesome that real Shenmue fans may finally get to see the conclusion to their series, so good on you guys.

I'd think Sony would want to take credit for it if they had a hand in reviving the franchise.

Its pretty obvious what is going on. Sony has agreed to fund the project if the kickstarter could reach a goal. Its more about seeing interest in the project before they are willing to shell out the large budget. Its incredibly shitty that a Multibillion dollar corporation has to fleece its fans of a few million before they are willing to pay for the game but hey its cool cause its Shenmue apparently

Haven't read the thread, but this KS is likely just a way to gauge interest and Sony will give him at least another 20 million to develop this, because 2 million isn't going to give us a "fully-fledged" Shenmue experience.

Regardless, I've backed it, so god-speed Yu Suzuki :)

I would think it has to be Sony helping here. I mean the verified name on the kickstarter is Joel Tess, TLoU Main characters names. IDK kinda cheeky.

Posted this in the other thread but wanted it here...

Everyone just assumes Sony is publishing but I'm not so sure. Someone has to be of course, but Sony would have plenty of incentive just to promote it at the conference as a potential exclusive or even just a game coming to their platform even if they weren't publishing. That's not enough to convince me they have a deal. The confirmed and physical PC version even tilts me to skeptical.

We will see though. I really don't care who's publishing I'm just excited we're getting it!

Wow this is amazing! What a day. I was at work through all this so couldn't really participate in the hype, but I wanted to jump up and down in my job when I saw this and FF7 remake were real.

Oh man watching that kick starter trailer and hearing the bad (but in a good way) voices sounding just like the original couldn't help but make me laugh and put a smile on my face.

Gonna look at the rewards and see which one I wanna choose.

wow, i want to play the shenmue series to see what the hype is about.. whats a good way to play it now?

First is still best on Dreamcast although prices shot up tonight. The second is on the original Xbox and can be played on the 360. It also has a DVD with the entire story of the first game made into a movie if you don't want to get a Dreamcast and the first game.

Shenmue 1 can only be played on a Dreamcast. Shenmue 2 requires either a European Dreamcast, an Xbox, or an Xbox 360. People will tell you the Xbox version is inferior.

Backed the $29 version.

Strongly considering bumping it to the $100 edition. We'll see.

I want the game on PS4, not PC though.

People have said that Sega completely lost the code for PDS, which is why it's never really even been in much of a discussion for a remaster.

A) Almost every game from that era has their source code lost

B) you don't need the source code to do a remaster, Sega used emulation for Daytona USA as an example

C) What good is a bunch of SH2 ASM source going to do modern development?

D) I was hoping for a sequel or remake

Yu should have HD remasters of 1&2 by Hexadrive or Bluepoint or Nixxes as stretch goals.

I already e-mailed them asking about remaster stretch goal possibility.
It's def. going to entice more people to pledge, and even if itis a very high value, it won't affect S3 much.

Hey, Yukio Futatsugi is at Microsoft and they need something to counter Sony's Shenmue III announcement.

Oh god, now I'm imagining a world where both companies are going back-and-forth over bringing back old Sega properties and I want it to be real.

The Master of Tanning runs Sega now and he's pretty homey with Shu, Cerny and the House.

For anyone that wants to play the Shenmue series:

If you don't mind a slow start, start with the first game. Otherwise watch the Shenmue movie and then play the second game.
