SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

So as an FFVII diehard I've spent the entire night over in that thread rejoicing.

But you guys and gals, man. The dream never ended for you, and if I recall what my best friend -- a huge Shenmue fan back in the day -- told me, it just kind of left you without closure. I know that feeling from a few of my favorite shows but none of my biggest games. I always thought, "that's rough. That's rough as hell. I want that fixed for them."

And now it can be. And that's beautiful. And so I've never played either Shenmue but I threw $20 into this because dammit this is a really, really good story.

Here's to all of us. What an E3.

I didn't follow the Star Citizen funding stuff. They switched off of Kickstarter to their own site and basically created more stretch goals?
No, they had a simultaneous fundraiser on their own website next to kickstarter. The kickstarted ended with some goals funded, the fundraiser on their own website is still running.

I must admit, I lost faith.

You were not ready for Valhala but the Shenmue forgives its lost sheep for you have once more seen the light.

They added this on Kickstarter page:

Will there be an Xbox/Wii U/Linux/Mac version for Shenmue 3?
Currently we are planning development only for PC (Windows) and PS4.

Guess a lot of people need to hope they meet the 2.5M mark so they do the 1 and 2 recap videos. I don't see anyone lining up to do ports of the old games and I didn't see it as a stretch goal. My memory is hazy on a lot of details from the game so a refresh would be good.

This project looks risky. 47M to make the last one back in 1999 or so. How can this get done for 2M? No where in the kickstarter do they talk about outside funding. Other projects that have done this all talk about how this is just one part of the funding...this one does not. So is it a 2M or 50M game? The kickstarter proposal doesn't really say.

This is a team that has not work together in a long time, some it appears have not been working a lot, or working in other fields (still they all look talented). But its not like inxile or Tell Tale where they have been operating as a company for some time.

To me, the first part of this kickstarter should have been to re-release the ports by 2017-18 and the full game probably late 2018-19. What you get as a backer is the three games over time. For what these guys have done in the past and assuming its what they want to do now, its going to take a lot of resources and schedule to get it done today. Spreading it out and getting some cash from the ports would help give them some money and schedule. Or possibly this is a smallish in scope game, not like the previous versions. I don't know.

Their risk statement does not give me any confidence they understand what is in front of them. I believe everyone is well intention it just seems everyone is doing this on 'heart' and not 'logic'. That can result in pain.

I want this to happen but I really hope some outside sources of funding are talked about soon, along with some details on what the game being developed scope is and all of this added to the campaign page.

31 days. $2m in 8 hrs. Plus UE4 should ease development somewhat without having to fully aqaint to platform architecture.

As much as I love the Dreamcast (Only console I still have connected and play), I have never played Shenmue 1 & 2. I might actually back this on Kickstarter (Never done it before, but it is a Dreamcast series) and perhaps buy Shenmue 1&2 from Ebay(Unless there still is a chance of a HD release).

I'm gojng to be the killjoy in some aspects and say I hope you all do realize 2 mill is nothing right ? It has to be a token gesture sony is probably matching it 5 fold and sega too etc and another 20 for marketing ... I think we've already had articles about how 2 mill is nothing for Deving games .... Some most have already realized this . And recognize this for what it is ...

1) at best a show your support
2) a post e3 publicity stunt . Seriously do any of you guys think 2 or 3 or 10 mill is anywhere close to the budget they need ? Wasn't shenmue 60 mil in the friggin dreamast era ... The contributions don't matter sony is funding this anyway the contributions are at best 10% but they help market shenmue more and that's the eventual goal

I cried. I can't believe I actually cried over a video game announcement.

How long will development take you guys reckon? Won't the game look graphically dated if it takes another 3 years or so until release?

As cool as that is, it's doesn't fit with the style of the game.

Huh? You think Donnie Yen won't be the best person to do the fights for Shenmue? Really? I'm awed....

Yu Suzuki didn't had access to great choreographers when he was working on the original Shenmue. With people like Donnie Yen, that did the motion graphics for Onimusha, you cannot go wrong. Not one bit!

that chance is increasing with every minute :P

We're all aware of this. Thank you for your concern.

Nobody thinks 2 million dollars is all the budget the game needs.

It will obviously cost way more than $2 million. But I think there are a lot of reasons to suspect it won't cost anywhere near $50 million.

1) Unreal 4 means they don't have to develop their own engine
2) they don't have to work around the confines of the Dreamcast
3) they already have the formula down, so there won't be years of experimentation
4) they spent a lot of money on the Saturn version before transitioning Shenmue to DC

The initial rush has been tremendous, but does it have any legs for the whole KS month period?

Kickstarter tend to be most active for the first few days of their drive, aaaand the last few days. Assuming we'll thought out stretch goals and good publicity however, it should get a healthy flow of funds during the entire drive.

I think so and I'm hoping some Shenmue fans with deep pockets will get on board and hit this for a six (or out of the park for a home run, for USGAF. :P) and give the devs a head start.

It doesn't need to look cutting-edge. I'm hoping for good image quality and good animations, but I'm not expecting them to compete with AAA devs.

I'm sure there's a rich Arab oil tycoon shenmue fan just waking up right about now.

Ready to pledge a billion dollars.

I was thinking the same thing but didn't want to typecast anyone lol.

Maybe they'll reach out to kickstarter with something along these lines "I wish to pledge, is there an option to give a larger amount, like a significantly larger amount."

Ok, I changed my mind. I was originally going to back with the $29 tier but after seeing this response I'm going to wait till my next pay before going to the $175 tier. That is the first and most expensive backing I will ever put in kickstarter. I was laughing with joy and disbelief when I saw that small petal fall down on the screen. It was that alone that was enough trigger all my senses to see what this game really was.

I once backed a game for $10. Only think I had ever backed.

Today, as soon as I saw the announcement I had no hesitation in dropping $500.
This will be the best thing I have spent money on this year.

I'm ecstatic

Thanks for the replies guys.

Where do the developers that will work on Shenmue 3 come from? All Sega employees? Maybe devs from the yakuza team?

No no I agree I don't thin ppl are stupid eniught to think that what I meant is its very complicated as to why kickstarter there are so many cons against going down that road and still bein ps4/pc

I think they're just establishing that there's interest in the project.

Well Yu left Sega, but still consults for them. He owns his own indie studio called YS Net. Not sure about the rest.
