SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

Not open for further replies.
Well Yu left Sega, but still consults for them. He owns his own indie studio called YS Net. Not sure about the rest.

I see. I just hope he can get together a group of talented devs to help him build the exact game he has in mind without having to cut corners.

Looks like there won't be a PS4 physical copy reward. They just added this to the FAQ.

Will there be a physical copy reward for the PS4?

The Shenmue 3 Kickstarter will only be offering the digital download version for the PlayStation Network.

.

So does this thread and the kickstarter. look at those numbers go. We're very close to the $1.9 million mark.

DISCLAIMER: That quote is not from this thread, save yourself the effort of trying to find it in here.

I don't suppose there's any chance that Suzuki owns the rights to any of his classic arcade games. I guess that means he'll have to license some from Sega.

Doubt it, I'm afraid the You Arcade may be absent from this.

Unless of course they negotiated that it would be included, but those are separate IP's.

Are there plans for the HD versions of Shenmue 1 & 2?

The property rights for Shenmue 1 and Shenmue 2 belong to SEGA, so we are not in a position to comment on that.

Come on SEGA. Do the right thing for once.

I will never ever be able to understand wtf is happening, why are people donating hundreds of dollars for this? I played 1 and 2 and I won't even give 5p from down the back of my sofa for what this will turn out like.

Just imagine for a minute if the photo of that forklift truck hadn't materialised, or if Suzuki's E3 visit we're kept quiet....I think the reaction to this would of been simply ......well, e'll never know sadly lol.

Would have been the same reaction.

People may have believed that either Last Guardian, SHENMUE or FFVIIR would be announced as an outside chance, but all three at the same time is what created a curveball of disbelief.

The kickstarter demo looks like an very early prototype/concept.
Placeholder voice-acting and kite demo asset landscape.

Basically they will start working on it after the kickstarter.

I was thinking the same thing but didn't want to typecast anyone lol.

Maybe they'll reach out to kickstarter with something along these lines "I wish to pledge, is there an option to give a larger amount, like a significantly larger amount."

Supposedly that actually happened with broken age. Apperantly some Saudi prince put in a ton of money because he really loved full throttle back in the day.

We heard you the first time, you dont like shenmue.

I guess several of the You Arcade machines were original games. They could just make an entire arcade full of original games.

If there's no darts I'll riot. I had the high score (according to the Shenmue Passport disc) in darts for like a year.

I really hope the first two games get a re release, would help this game out a lot I think by not making it hard to understand for new fans.

The initial rush has been tremendous, but does it have any legs for the whole KS month period?

The general rule is whatever a project makes within 48 hours expect to the total to be double that amount over most of the monthly period. It's on the last day that can throw things off because in some cases last minute backers have exceeded day 1 backing.

It will obviously cost way more than $2 million. But I think there are a lot of reasons to suspect it won't cost anywhere near $50 million.

1) Unreal 4 means they don't have to develop their own engine

Yeah, the tools they have now, with UE4 and all the middleware available these days would make producing a game like Shenmue 1 a joke compared to 1999.

I am somewhat disappointed it won't span across 4/6 episodes.
I think having the series end in a single game now somehow takes away from the epicness of Ryo's journey.
Such a long wait and seeing the end of the story in a single title..hmm..

Needs to have Japanese VA and subtitles.

Needs more Yu Suzuki arcade games. Those would work well as stretch goals too.

They probably will have a PS4 retail copy eventually. Also, someone is busy updating the kickstarter page.

Edit: beaten

I remember reading here on GAF 2 years ago that ports of both Shenmue 1 and 2 were completed and would get a release soon. Then nothing ever came from it.

Today, as soon as I saw the announcement I had no hesitation in dropping $500.

I have absolutely ZERO problem with people spending their money how they like. I blow that much on good food and wine for a special occasion.

But I don't understand what people get from putting big sums into a game like this - what made you pick that much? (edit: just to be clear - not criticising at all, I am just interested to understand others' views on this stuff.)

FAQ Section

Will there be an Xbox/Wii U/Linux/Mac version for Shenmue 3?
Currently we are planning development only for PC (Windows) and PS4. Other platforms have not been decided yet.

Will there be a physical copy reward for PS4?
The Shenmue 3 Kickstarter will only be offering the digital download version for the PlayStation Network.

Is this game affiliated with SEGA?
SEGA has officially given us the rights to use the "Shenmue" license.

Are there plans for the HD versions of Shenmue 1 & 2?
The property rights for Shenmue 1 and Shenmue 2 belong to SEGA, so we are not in a position to comment on that.

This should be in OP, after all. I mean, it REALLY seems that Sony isn't directly involved, otherwise they'd have denied from the start supplementary platforms.

Given recent events and the response to the kickstarter, I wouldn't be surprised at all if SEGA makes an announcement for a release soon.

I think it is one of those games which "you had to be there back then".

Yup. plus they would've mentioned console exclusitivity at the show if the games platforms of choice were locked down.

I honestly thought it would hit 2 million by the time I woke up. 1.8 million is still impressive though. I'm sure it will hit 2 million by 8 am eastern.

Sega would be so beyond stupid not to get on this hype train with remastered versions. Of course, that's why they won't do it and will instead put out 8 more Sonic games.

I once backed a game for $10. Only think I had ever backed.

Today, as soon as I saw the announcement I had no hesitation in dropping $500.
This will be the best thing I have spent money on this year.

I'm ecstatic

Did the same. Those figures will also be rare as fuck.

Or Sony are waiting to see how the Kickstarter goes before deciding, and that's why they can't say anything yet.

Well decided to go for the $160 one. I got Shenmue 2 some years back but never got around to getting the first one, even though I have a Dreamcast. Will probably look at getting it soon.

I would like for their to be a "bible" bonus of sorts, one that details how the story was originally planned. If they plan on wrapping up the series with this game, I've no doubt they're going to need to abridge or outright cut out parts of the story (like how they cut out the "boat" chapter from Shenmue 2).
