From the moment of Yus tweet, Hubers reaction at the reveal and Kickstarter crashing ... until the moment it funded. What an incredible ride. I'm still not believing it.

I mean ... There is also Last Guardian and FF7 ... But somehow I always end up here ... What a journey for all the fans.

Shenmue 3 is real...

Now sega just needs to cut a deal for a proper shining force and I can rest easy

We know that Sega allows Yu Suzuki to make this sequels but is really HELPING in any capacity? Why not allow him the use of original hi-poly models of Ryo and Shen-hua that we can see in Shenmue passport?

Can we hope to see AM2 or Yakuza Team involved in Shenmue 3 in any capacity?
 
ok so we delivered the kickstarter requested funding as requested at the Sony conference

so what is next Sony ?

It'll come to Xbox if fans can convince MS to help with funding the game. My guess is Sony is contributing some to development.

it's the only thing that explains why its pc/ps4
why would they leave xbox money on the table, unless sony is funding it
the game is being written in UE4, they could "easily" port it to xbox

i can't see there being any chance for this to come out on xbox (or wii u) if sony is contributing even some of the cost. surely they would have demanded console exclusivity at the very least.

there is no xbox money on the table after licensing costs, porting costs, minimum disc print order etc is paid. Sales would be a few hundred thousand at most, that doesnt make up for the costs.

edit: a few hundred thousand might even be too generous hmm
 
i think over the next few days we're going to hear more about the specifics of what shenmue 3 is, and who exactly is behind it

the kickstarter is a bit sparse at the moment, but i think that might be intentional to see exactly how far the crowdfunding will go
 
Although Shenmue 3 isn't being created by Sega I do think that the Kickstarter in some part is testing the water for people's in handing over money for these games, I know people claim they want them but Sega seeing people handing over money for Shenmue 3 is a far stronger message than people saying they want it.

I wouldn't be too surprised to see the first two games being released at some point (PC & PS4 maybe?) if the Kickstarter raises enough money to justify it. I'd imagine that Sega already has a funding goal for these remasters even though it's only an internal Sega goal.

I wonder if it will be a Sony thing again as I'd imagine they be more than happy to support Shenmue 3 even though they aren't able to pledge funds on Kickstarter, maybe something along the lines of "You raise $10 million and we'll publish and take care of the marketing for you" type of thing.

That will be up to SEGA to do so as Mr. Suzuki owns the rights to future games and confirmed via the kickstarter page that SEGA still owns 1 and 2 in terms of future releases (see the kickstarter page faqs at the bottom).

Great story and I can totally relate to things like this changing your life. An episode of ER I watched about 10 years ago pretty much is why I am a doctor today.

Can't wait for you to get your payoff.

Have no played Shenmue but did spend time in HK years ago, just prior to the release of the PS3 actually, including Kowloon ofc, so will hopefully jog some memories.

now that they opened pandora box i'll not be able to keep myself one piece until next year E3 for more info
 
I'd love for this to have some Sega games in it, even if you had to buy them to play them. It'd fantastic to have a full arcade of games that you could add to over time.

This game probably actually costs between $30 and $50 million. This Kickstarter is just for fleecing fans.

I recognize myself in this story as well, no other games have had a similar impact on my life. Went to Hong Kong, Man Mo Temple (pretty boring place in reality) and Guilin (stunning) thanks to Shenmue I&II. Still have to go to Japan sometime though.
 
So, I have 31 days to cancel my pledge if needed.. I mean, it's going to be interesting to see if more details behind their potential "Sony-deal" is going float to the surface before that time.

Anyway, 2017..Perhaps even 2018.. It's a long way off

Just googled it and yeah I actually went myself about 8 years ago, I liked it, quite serene.

Dat Lan Tau island tho.
 
Holy shit, can the OP be updated as to why this kickstarter exists, Sony's involvement and why it's only $2 mil?! People keep asking the same shit in every single page.

Doesn't look like it'll conclude the story looking at the characters to be in this game going by the kickstarter pages. But you never know really.
