Nier 2 announced (Square Enix, Yoko Taro, Platinum Games, Akihiko Yoshida, PS4)

as pointed out earlier, they've got:
-2 games that broke a million
-1 that passed 800k
-Bayonetta 2 was basically free money from nintendo to help the Wii U
-Mad World, W101, and Anarchy Reigns prob all bombed
-Infinite Space sold out of its print run and got rare real quick
-Korra was apparently good enough for activision to go back for seconds

This "platinum doesn't sell games" troll is not really panning out that well.

They sell well enough for what their budget is. Their Nintendo partnerships were bombs, but I believe Nintendo publishing and funding the games made up for the costs. Vanquish and the original Bayonetta weren't high in budget and they are particularly talented at making stylized games.

Platinumgames sales aren't anything to write home about though. It's not really a troll attempt, they don't make games that sell very well bar Metal Gear Rising, (which held the Metal Gear name). Despite that, they sell well enough within their budget and they make games that turn peoples heads, which is why they keep getting work.

This is why Microsoft, Nintendo and Konami went to them, because they make games that will stun people.

Best wishes.

"weiss you dumbass"

One of my favorite games of last gen.. I had really hoped drakengard 3 would be more of this greatness but was sadly disappointed. Will buy Nier 2 as soon as it appears for preorder.. cannot wait!!

Well, Platinum's sure got their work cut out for them, thats for sure. At least now every console gets a bit of exclusive Platinum goodness.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
In case those who are not familiar with "Nier" or Yoko Taro, he happens to have created some of the most off putting emotional responsive stories and characters in gaming with the perfect atmospheres and masochistic devices in play, but his creations have always been let down by a lack of technical polish, that's been true from the beginning. With Platinum at the helm however...

Damn, just how big is Platinum? These guys have, off the top of my head...Dragonbound, Stafox, Nier 2 and the Transformers fighter.

Guessing the Transformer's fighter is closer to shovelware than anything else at this point. It also should be done relatively soon. Nier 2 and Dragonbound are the late 2016/2017 games and are probably going to be eating the bulk of PG's staff next year.

And my dreams came true

I was so not expecting of of my best games of asll time will be also showed at E3 2015 with Taro Yoko, Okabe, generally Draken/Nier staff and Platinum Games as developer.

i want to cry

yes, just blowing up the "bomb fodder" comments.

Holy shit!!!
This is the best E3 ever!
I actually had to do a double take on the thread title.
Holy.
Fucking.
Shit!

I don't even... just... wow!

Considering a lot of people were worried about this guy taking over, the company has really turned around it's software pipeline.

He knows his shit

Speaking with Nikkei Trendy, Matsuda said, “in the past, when we developed console games with a worldwide premise, we lost our focus, and not only did they end up being games that weren’t for the Japanese, but they ended up being incomplete titles that weren’t even fit for a global audience

“On the other hand, there are games like the JRPG we made for the Japanese audience with the proper elements, Bravely Default, which ended up selling well all around the world.”

The success of Silicon Studio’s Bravely Default has inspired Matsuda to look at the core fan base and the appeal of globally-minded releases once more. He went on, “Due to having split [the development mindset] according to regions around the world, we weren’t able to see this clearly up until now, but fans of JRPGs are really spread around the world.

“Through the means of various networks, the latest information that is announced in Japan is instantaneously being spread across fans throughout the world. Whether it’s North America, Europe, or South America. There really isn’t much of a gap [in the relay of information].

“With that in mind, and all of the collective fans, there’s a sense of mass, which loses the image of a niche market. For the new games we’ll be developing from this point on, while this may sound a bit extreme, we’ve been talking about making them as heavy JRPGs. I believe that way, we can better focus on our target, which will also bring better results.”

TLG, Shenmue 3, Dark Souls 3, Nier 2 (and sure, FFVIIr), all I need now is a Panzer Dragoon Saga remake and I'll know I'm actually just dreaming.

can we please stop 'why not coming to xbone too' posts please.

I will get fucking Xbone if this was Xbone exclusive. Stop whinning.

So, in the last 30~ hours, we've had:
1) Xbone backwards compatability
2) All of Rare's non-Nintendo-owned work on a disc
3) The Last Guardian
4) Shenmue 3
5) Final Fantasy 7 HD
6) A new Starfox by Platinum Games
7) A new Nier by Platinum Games + the big cheeses of the first Nier

The only sane conclusion is that witchcraft is afoot.
