Does anyone have the log in for Nintendo's press site? I know it's usually something like E32015 and nintendo but that doesn't seem to work.

This digital event just shows that Nintendo's priorities have shifted beyond the 3ds and wiiu. Everything was ports, collaborations with outside studios doing the actual development, reused assets for quick turnaround games, and popular IPs used in games that are spinoffs or shells of their main entries.

I love how Gaf gets super excited for a game that didn't even start developing but was announced at the Sony presser but scoff at several Wii-U games coming out in the next 6 months

Seriously there was a lot of cool stuff and a lot of less-than-great stuff but nothing utterly shitty and its all *coming out soon*

More people were excitied to pay for an exclusive PlayStation game so Sony didn't have to

Wasn't expecting much of the digital event which I haven't seen, but by the comments I gather there wasn't much to be seen. Too bad, Nintendo's had a bit of a resurgence as of late with Splatoon, but I guess they've blown their load with that. I'm still getting Woolly World but after that I don't know... I'm not a Zelda guy.

Nevetheless, Wii U was actually my first Nintendo console and I've had a great time with it! Much more so than I ever expected. Part of it is that I had some unbelievable Wii games to play, but the Wii U library has been pretty great for me also. No regrets even if they decide / have decided to focus on the next console now.

What are you guys complaining about? The Digital Event was AMAZING!

Star Fox
Two new Zelda games
Two new Metroid games
Fire Emblem
SMTxFE
Xenoblade X
Two new Animal Crossing games
Yoshi's Wooly World
Youkai Watch
New Mario & Luigi game
Mario Tennis
Super Mario Maker

That's FIFTEEN games. FIFTEEN GAMES PEOPLE!

And you're complaining. WOW.

Seriously...those games are nothing interesting. Other than Xenoblade and Fire Emblem, nothing special.

Reggie deliberately mentioned that the company is transforming, so next year it might became a totally new Nintendo.
This is more serious than I imagined
I'd like to forget about E3 now and focus on Nintendo's future,
Have they finally putting an end to Wii U and 3DS till 2016 and anounce a new platform under the new Nintendo

As a nintendo fan, I feel like... being f***ed today. I wanted a Mario strikers, we received a shitty tennis game without the special movements that were on NGC.
Waited for a metroid game on wii u. with the gamepad, we could do a lot of things with it on a game like that.
Waited for another NGC hd remake..
Where's Rhythm Heaven??

Nintendo's first step is to fire the big 3: Miyamoto (ok you are the papa of mario but from years, you offer nothing to gamers. You use Nintendo society like it was your puppet. He explains its ideas of maniability for Star fox, sorry but tons of people can think better things for this game). Reggie and Iwata too. They are a big wall of the progress of Nintendo.

What do people expect Nintendo to do, tie their main development teams up on a console that's been on life support for most of it's entire lifespan.

Look, it sucks that the Wii U was taken out back and basically shot, but Nintendo needs to get off of that system, it's dead and it's been dead for a while now. It's got a great line-up, but nobody is buying it.

it isn't even exclusive, since the superior version will be on PC lol

The "Nintendo is dead" people seem to forget that the hype machine for Nintendo is not latched to e3 like MS and Sony's are. Nintendo drops bombs whenever they feel like it via directs, so today's conference being an extra-long direct and *really* celebrating Mario's anniversary isn't really all that bad.

I'm sure they're also going to be dropping bombs in their tree house live stuff, they've gotten really good at year-round anticipation

This is pretty much my assessment as well. Let's not forget we're getting Earthbound Beginnings! Nintendo knows what it's doing, I'm not worried.

What did I miss besides the new Starfox and Metroid trailers?.

- Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam
- Zelda: Triforce Heroes
- Mario Tennis Wii U
- Activision/Nintendo collab for dual skylander/amiibo figurines
- Release date for Xenoblade Chronicles X in EU/NA (4th Dec)
- Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival for Wii U, and Home Designer for 3DS
- Mario Maker release date (Sept)
- Trailers for both the Wii U and New 3DS Fire Emblem games.

Totally regret my Wii U purchase now.. I knew it was going to die soon, but not this quickly..

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???

Truth.

NX is going to be a great platform; however, today's event left a sour taste in my mouth.

I agree, but at the same time I still think they showed interesting titles. The issue is that most of them were previously announced and Sony/ms both had their best showings in YEARS.

Both ps4 and xbone have had very few interesting games in two years, especially compared to the wii u which has delivered some of the best quality titles in a while, despite having next to no third party support.

However , one slow year for Nintendo is doom. It's true that they are likely ramping up for nx but I find it hilarious how easily people forget what the landscape has been.
I own both a 3DS and a Wii U. The only "new" game that I'm interested in after watching the Direct would be Super Mario Maker. The second game would be Xenoblade Chronicles but that's a fairly well-known thing at this point. Two games between two systems over the next year. I'm not writing off the other games completely, but that's pretty bad.

While I agree the Nintendo landscape hasn't been bad, it hasn't been the best. Lemme illustrate: Smash Bros. I have little to no interest in Smash Bros although I recognize it as a fine game. So, last Fall I had the option of Smash Bros, Hyrule Warriors, and Bayonetta. Thank goodness for Bayonetta because otherwise I wouldn't have bought anything for Wii U. And Bayonetta is rather niche. I can imagine plenty of other people found nothing interesting to play on their Wii U last Fall. If you're a Nintendo fan who buys up each and every one of their games and enjoys each one, I'm sure the Wii U is acceptable. I love Nintendo, but I only buy a handful of games a year. I usually have a hard time picking which games I want to buy. On Wii U, I have a hard time deciding what's actually worth my money.

There are some very solid games on Wii U, but this E3 showed that the system is dead. 3DS too. Not even a new Pokemon.

I hope they treat the nx, no matter if its a failing system, with games coming out compared to the fucking wii with yearly droughts between releases.

I wouldn't hold my breath.

I can say that is it pretty much established, at least where North America is concerned, that Nintendo piles all of their major releases into the holiday season at the end of the year.

Nintendo could have gotten so much better sales for the Wii U overall if they had released the games evenly through the year to stave off the droughts that kept killing the interest in the system, but they still, until this day, seem dedicated to trying to milk Fall holiday sales.

Just got in from work, i have missed it :(

You missed nothing. Really.

I haven't watched the event yet, what's the other new Metroid game outside of the Federation one?

Seeing the headlines, I feel like Nintendo's really stretching it on 3DS this year with some titles just to pad out the release because practically all the big guns have come and gone on the system already. It kind of feels like they should have a new system out by the end of the year.

The above said, my backlog is so big that it doesn't really matter for me. It sucks for people that have a lot of gaming time and buy all the latest titles pretty much immediately though.

Let me preface this by saying I'm the biggest Nintendo fan boy you'll ever meet. I don't plan on selling my Wii U or whatever. I do need to get a New 3DS since my old one has a broken circle pad.

I think this event really sums up where Nintendo is. The Wii U is, for all intents and purposes, dead. They'll release what they have to just to keep their heads above water. They'll do what they can to maximize profits. (That's why we see so much Amiibo integration.)

The biggest takeaway is that Nintendo simply cannot support two devices on their own. I think the NX has to be a hybrid console/handheld. I think they have the resources to support one system on their own without too much trouble.

It doesn't matter what Nintendo releases hardware wise. The 3rd parties are not going to come back. It'll be three games since EA sports has supported the Nintendo home console (Madden/FIFA 14, 15, 16). It's now lacking the last two CoDs. With the exception of Just Dance 16, I don't think there was a single 3rd party game announced for Wii U this E3. These companies aren't just going to rush back until the player base is there.

I think that's why this even really showed how Nintendo is caught between a rock and a hard place. As a business, they have to salvage what they can. However, they can't afford to invest money in games that aren't going to sell at all. Then, they have to make sure they don't tick off the people who have invested in their platforms.

It's for the last reason that I think this even failed so hard. They showed what they had, but what they had is not acceptable while still marketing the device. They needed to open up some more Virtual Console stuff at least. They need something to satisfy those who have bought the system. Something. Anything, really.

They didn't do it with this conference. They just managed to tick off everyone.

Yeah, this is sort of where I'm at. Well said.

isn't this the truth. Nintendo shows up with real fucking video games that you will play in the near future and it's the worst presentation they've had in years?

Every single game they've shown will be a product you can buy before any of the big announcements at Sony's thing.

I said in a recent thread that games journalists should be professional and not boo at E3 conferences.
Had this been a live conference I'd have totally understood it. Thanks for changing my beliefs, Nintendo!

If Nintendo does a direct event in the fall announcing a new Retro Studios title for 2016 and a couple of other internal titles for the Wii-U along with a Zelda Wii-U date of holiday 2016 I think everyone will quickly forget this lackluster E3.

But if I was Nintendo I would have quickly thrown a bone to the core fans as far as 2016 Wii-U goes. Give the fans something to look forward to and hold on to. Even if you have some sort of fall event planned you need to give people something to come away with at E3 esp after good Sony and Microsoft conferences.

Nintendo does what Nintendo does I guess. Hopefully NX isn't a console as I think it would spell a Gamecube 2005-2006 vibe. I think it is some sort of handheld as the 3-DS has plenty of support through 2016 and it has been around long enough where they can replace it in 2017 and people won't feel like it was too soon.

Wii-U on the other hand needs a few more years of support, it is going to shake the confidence of consumers if Nintendo doesn't support the console through 2017 at the very least.

put on the stream to waste some time at work...ended up bored enough to do work through the stream. what a terrible presentation.

Wrapping up a system is always awkward, and it's now clear that wii u doesn't have much life after 2015, which should have been obvious to everyone going into the show.

I thought SF0 looked great, even if the graphics aren't very good. The 3DS stuff didn't appeal to me much though, unfortunately.

It was a sold 7/10.

I don't get the hate in this thread. It's the E3 curse. If you don't "win", you're terrible and deserve to die and rot. How many fucking "NINTENDO NEEDS TO GO THIRD PARTY" thread bullshit will we have now?

...You clearly haven't seen any conference. This was an average direct. A 6/10. It did fall behind because Sony sucked the dicks of ever Neogaf member and was never gonna top it. But because Nintendo came after...it's now the worst. Of course.

i like how you downgraded it yourself within 30 minutes lol

So, when is the next Direct you reckon? August?
September. I reached out to Reggie and he sent me a list of announcements, telling me he's heard more of what GAF has been asking for:

New FZero: Captain Falcon's Epic Yarn. 2D Platformer with amiibo support. 2016 release

2016 Games for Wii U: Star Fox Zero is now a 2016 game

Mario Kart 8 Battle Mode: New courses will be added to the Battle Mode Mario Kart 8 already has

Ridley and K Rool in Smash: New trophies of iconic Nintendo villains are available to collect

New Zelda Wii U footage and a release earlier than next fall: Nintendo is partnering with Ubisoft to get the game out faster and deliver a AAA open world experience

Pokemon Wii U: It's a Mystery Dungeon that requires amiibo to play as characters other than Pikachu

I don't, but I pretty much expected something like this. A lot of good Nintendo games and a severe lack of anything else.

The Wii U got my son hooked on Mario games (I'm coming home from Korea in August and that's all he's looking forward to, is playing Mario with Dad), so for that, I can't hate the system.

Was it an underwhelming console, yes, did Nintendo fuck up with it, yes. However, we still got some great games from it.
