The worst thing was that I had low and realistic expectations ..and they fell way below them.

I at least expected the Tantalus port/remake (which they said was releasing this year), Next Levels Wii U game or Retro's Wii U game (I didn't expect both), a real Animal Crossing game for Wii U and an HD remake.

I got nothing.

At least next E3 will be better right?

Only 365 days of watching the Wii U die left.

Thank god we have Splatoon already. Awesome game that makes me appreciate the Wii U right now. It truly feels like Nintendo themselves are moving their big projects to NX or their new home console. No way the new Zelda is coming to Wii U at this point.

This was their biggest shit show since the Wii music conference. Full of games we already knew were coming. The only nice surprises were Bowser and Donkey Kong in Skylanders (a good move to get more copies sold to Wii U instead of next gen systems), Mario and Luigi Paper Jam and the new Zelda 3DS game.

The Metroid Prime 3DS game looks like shit.

Nintendo needs to make their next handheld and console be able to play the same games, seems like they can't support two systems all on their own anymore.

They really need to consolidate their portable and home console business. The line-up, taken as a whole is pretty decent, but it's clear that they (and the few third party partners they have left) can only put forth a solid lineup for one ecosystem.

I really hope this is the basis of the NX.

I'm more surprised at the 3DS line up than the Wii U. I thought for sure there'd be more announced for 3DS. It's obvious Nintendo are going all in on NX.

For people who don't even own a Wii U yet, or for those who just got one this year, these comments are completely ridiculous as the back catalog of Wii U exclusives is absolutely incredible and will last you until the next platform releases.

This is more a downer for those who have already exhausted the existing library, but there's still alot to look forward to this year. But next year seems empty, sure.

The NES,SNES,64,GC, and Wii all had better lineups.

I have a hard time a Nintendo fan would disagree unless they were born until mid-way through the Wii cycle.

That's your opinion, but you can't say that WiiU has no games because it's a blatant lie and overreaction.

What are you guys complaining about? The Digital Event was AMAZING!

Star Fox
Two new Zelda games
Two new Metroid games
Fire Emblem
SMTxFE
Xenoblade X
Two new Animal Crossing games
Yoshi's Wooly World
Youkai Watch
New Mario & Luigi game
Mario Tennis
Super Mario Maker

That's FIFTEEN games. FIFTEEN GAMES PEOPLE!

And you're complaining. WOW.

I see THREE that I actually care about.

What they are doing is destroying hope for the NX.

Exactly. Why would anyone trust a company who has now left two consoles out to wither in their last year or so? Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited for Super Mario Maker, but that seems to be the last big Wii U game I'll buy if they really have nothing left.

This is such a letdown. They were on top of the world with the Smash Direct and Nintendo World Championship, and then they do this? Literally all the hype around Nintendo was sapped within one hour.

Man I hope NX is the hardcore dream system we've been fantasizing about for years. Surely Nintendo will drop the bombs at E3 2016.

Is it too early to board that hype train? Because I have a really good feeling about their showing next year.

Time to go over my scorecard. I think it speaks volumes that I was very conservative about my expectations, and the show still felt like it fell short.

Known and securely expected

- Star Fox title, details, footage, and release window
- Super Mario Maker release details (pre-included stages, sharing features)
- 8-bit Mario and Animal Crossing Amiibo
- Hyrule Warriors 3DS
- Blast Ball, whatever it is

Awaited information

- Xenoblade X release window and first localized footage
- Splatoon additional modes and DLC past August
- Fire Emblem If western release plan (i.e. single or multiple editions) [Release information was not in the presentation]
- Release plan for Happy Home Designer, Amiibo cards, and NFC peripheral

Reasonable guesses (pick four)

- Brief mention/teaser of Zelda to affirm it's still coming, possibly with a title
- Pokémon Z for n3DS (if not exclusive, then certainly optimized to push it)
- Pokken confirmed for Wii U (assuming it isn't too early in the arcade cycle)
- One forthcoming SSB4 fighter
- One unknown small-scale spinoff of a core IP [Metroid and Animal Crossing surely qualify]
- One unexpected license of a first-party IP to a third party [Do Skylanders Amiibo count?]
- One n3DS-exclusive port of a GC/Wii title
- Whatever happened to Giant Robot/Guard

Outside possibilities (pick two)

- Animal Crossing U (assuming the Amiibo line hints at this and not Happy Home Designer) [Well, sort of]
- Metroid (this is the year!) [Well, sort of]
- Non-Olympic Mario sports title (please be Strikers)
- Paper Mario U
- SMTxFE (I very much doubt we'll get it in NA/EU until after E3 2016, but we might see another tease)
- SNES Remix
- One Splatoon-sized push for an original IP
- One revival of something very dead (Ice Climber?)
- One HD remaster for Wii U
- GameCube Virtual Console (not everything needs analogue L/R—cf. TTYD, Path of Radiance)

Anticipated but arguably too region-specific for the main show

- Yoshi's Woolly World (NA) release date and Amiibo bundles
- Virtual Console games already released in JP/EU (Zero Mission, Star Successor, etc.)
- Successor loyalty programme to Club Nintendo

Not holding my breath in the slightest

- Substantial Zelda gameplay (denied)
- NX, mobile games, or Iwata's QOL sleep monitor (denied)
- Wii U hardware revision
- Devil's Third (shoved under the rug)
- Mother 3 localization (it's coming, but not yet)
- Advance Wars
(sigh)
- A new exclusive from PlatinumGames [Star Fox, though not announced in the presentation]
- F-Zero
- Clu Clu Land Uprising
- The goddamned 3D Mario that will finally get SM64 kids to shut up about 3D World not being "real"

The lesson to take away from this is that I've become rather good at knowing what not to expect.

I missed the Nintendo conference.. Had to take a relative to the Doctor.. Can someone summarize for me?
Nintendo heard everything GAF asked for:

New Metroid: It's a Prime Hunters coop spinoff for the 3DS with sports multiplayer instead of the only good part of the original Hunters.

Animal Crossing Wii U: It's a Mario Party game where you need amiibos for characters.

New Zelda: It's like Four Swords but for the 3DS

New Paper Mario: It's a Mario and Luigi crossover

No Donkey Kong Announcement by Retro: We actually got nothing from Retro

Nintendo E3 2015 in a nutshell

shoot me if already posted.

That's basically "fanservice" and it only appeals to the Nintendo hardcore fanbase. None of showed titles have a significant appeal outside of the Nintendo echo chamber.
This is always a really dumb criticism. It's like saying that only Sony fans should get excited over Uncharted, Horizon and Last Guardian. Why is it that when Nintendo announces a bunch of exclusives that are continuations of existing franchises it's "Fanservice for Nintendo fans" but when Sony shows Uncharted 4 or a Final Fantasy VII remake people act like it's the systems killer app? Uncharted 4 didn't look like it was doing anything new to bring in people who aren't Uncharted fans, and FFVII is doing nothing but making a remake of one of the most beloved Playstation games of all time and pulling at the nostalgic heartstrings of people who played it, but no one is calling U4 or the FFVII remake "Sony fanservice".

I also didn't say you had to be excited for the games, I was just saying if your only criticism is that most of the stuff they showed was stuff we already knew about, and you got excited for about half of the stuff in last nights Sony press conference, you're going to look like a hypocrite, because plenty of the stuff people were excited about last night were things everyone already knew existed.

not sure if you're sarcastic, but the meltdown is that out of these 15 games only 5 were new announcements, and 2 out of that looked really shitty (that Metroid and Animal Party)

I actually don't want Nintendo to release an Animal Crossing U game. Save it as a launch game for the NX that is playableon handheld and console.

I'm sorry, but big time Metroid fans like myself wasn't expecting only 3ds version of the series.. That's a joke.. And wtf isn't there a legit console Fire Emblem as well.. Why are there only spinoff Zelda games?

If they are moving on to NX, why can't they still release some games for the Wii U? You still have atleast a year before it's released..

The thing is, Nintendo actually has a pretty strong 2015 line-up, they just totally failed to showcase it.

YA BLEW IT.
they had zero surprises, that's what ducks. And Starfox does look great but it's simply not enough, nowhere near that!

the best thing about this event is that it more or less confirms that NX is a home console. For what it's worth.

The "Nintendo is dead" people seem to forget that the hype machine for Nintendo is not latched to e3 like MS and Sony's are. Nintendo drops bombs whenever they feel like it via directs, so today's conference being an extra-long direct and *really* celebrating Mario's anniversary isn't really all that bad.

I'm sure they're also going to be dropping bombs in their tree house live stuff, they've gotten really good at year-round anticipation

superbank

The definition of front-butt.
I thought it was pretty solid while watching but looking at the details laid out here, yeah it wasn't good. Leading with Starfox Zero was great, and all of the quirky touches like the puppets kept me entertained throughout but there were a lot of retreads and mostly smaller new announcements. Some cool things were shown like 3DS 3 player Zelda, Mario & Luigi x Paper Mario, and Metroid Hunters style 3DS game with Blastball, but there wasn't enough. If they had shown one more big Starfox-level announcement or maybe just shown the progress on Zelda U at the end the show could have been redeemed.

2 times now. Now no one will ever ever ever buy a console for upcoming Zeldas because they might get burned.

Only showing off the next ~8 months is on Nintendo. If it was a choice between showing off a few prototype/far-away games or only showing off games releasing in the next year, I'd definitely take the former in this case because the gaming landscape on Nintendo platforms looks hella sparse.

I agree, but at the same time I still think they showed interesting titles. The issue is that most of them were previously announced and Sony/ms both had their best showings in YEARS.

Both ps4 and xbone have had very few interesting games in two years, especially compared to the wii u which has delivered some of the best quality titles in a while, despite having next to no third party support.

However , one slow year for Nintendo is doom. It's true that they are likely ramping up for nx but I find it hilarious how easily people forget what the landscape has been.

Nintendo's been killing it* today!

(*Wii U)

Well, on the bright side...

It means i will find a used WiiU for cheaper than before today.
It means i will have enough time to finish my backlog (Windwaker, W101, Bayo2, ME3) and get a couple of games i still needed to get (Toad, 3Dworld, Lego GTA, Kirby, maybe even Smash).

Games still on the horizon i'm still getting: Xenoblade X, Devils Third, Fatal Frame, maybe Yoshi. If Zelda stays on WiiU, that too.

Come to think of it, Fast Racing Neo and Earthbound Beginnings were probably the best WiiU games at E3. Nintendo will have to come out guns blazing with the NX for me to consider getting it at launch. Maybe i'll let it pass me by for the first time in 15 years.

Because Sony showed hardly any/no dates and/or games they made/exclusives and WON E3. Don't forget EA is evil! Oh yeah, and Nintendo is DOOMED.

Some of the people here are the worst...I really need to stop visiting this site or any user comment based type of internet.

I think the problem is mainly in spreading the announcements. If they announced Ryu in this direct reactions would of been different, not to mention that we had a direct a few weeks ago.

The direct was disappointing, but the announcements in the last few days were epic, Mother, Ryu, Mario Tennis, Chibi-Robo, etc.

Man the people complaining about nintendo not supporting the wii u don't remember those wii droughts.

Quite the contrary. We do. That's is what makes it so much worse for the NX. Its like affirmation that this is how they do things, and that we should expect nothing different from their next system.

Any details anout the availability of retro Mario amiibo with Mario Maker?

Left the Treehouse feed a few minutes and already used it.

Let me preface this by saying I'm the biggest Nintendo fan boy you'll ever meet. I don't plan on selling my Wii U or whatever. I do need to get a New 3DS since my old one has a broken circle pad.

I think this event really sums up where Nintendo is. The Wii U is, for all intents and purposes, dead. They'll release what they have to just to keep their heads above water. They'll do what they can to maximize profits. (That's why we see so much Amiibo integration.)

The biggest takeaway is that Nintendo simply cannot support two devices on their own. I think the NX has to be a hybrid console/handheld. I think they have the resources to support one system on their own without too much trouble.

It doesn't matter what Nintendo releases hardware wise. The 3rd parties are not going to come back. It'll be three games since EA sports has supported the Nintendo home console (Madden/FIFA 14, 15, 16). It's now lacking the last two CoDs. With the exception of Just Dance 16, I don't think there was a single 3rd party game announced for Wii U this E3. These companies aren't just going to rush back until the player base is there.

I think that's why this even really showed how Nintendo is caught between a rock and a hard place. As a business, they have to salvage what they can. However, they can't afford to invest money in games that aren't going to sell at all. Then, they have to make sure they don't tick off the people who have invested in their platforms.

It's for the last reason that I think this even failed so hard. They showed what they had, but what they had is not acceptable while still marketing the device. They needed to open up some more Virtual Console stuff at least. They need something to satisfy those who have bought the system. Something. Anything, really.

They didn't do it with this conference. They just managed to tick off everyone.
