Iwata tweets about the Digital Event reactions.

There was Star Fox, Animal Party game. They also focused on Mario Maker. You telling me these are not Wii U games now?
You too are so disinterested in the new AC game that you didn't even bother trying to get the title right.

Star Fox and Mario Maker were announced last E3!

What should be more alarming is that projects that could work on a WiiU scale would be appropriate on an NX scale, whatever that means. Read: NX will not be a big jump.
Yeah and those big jumps mean longer development times. Perfectly content if it'll at least be Wii U level.

Because people keep forgetting this:

Iwata's goal is to turn around NCL's video game business by the end of the fiscal year ending in March 2017. That goal may or may not be realistic, but it makes little to no sense if NX isn't launching until the following fiscal year.

"...and in the way we communicate with consumers to promote and sell our products."

Nintendo needs to fire its marketing team and hire a new one. Confusing names, lame ads, lack of ads, etc are a huge part of their problem. Appealing to a general audience and even kids means being cool. They've got the highly rated games. But they didn't make people want to buy them.

Games I want. Sorry for having expectations?

You can't sincerely think these are sufficient.

I don't think they're sufficient for me. But the person stated they wanted WIi U games. Also someone mentioned Yoshi and Fatal Frame.

Metroid.

The Mario RPG crossover was also disappointing since it's coming off of Sticker Star and Super Paper Mario.

I'm guessing it's kind of to be expected since Other M sales. Someone mentioned earlier E3 is the time for business and after what happened with Other M, they decided to do spinoffs instead of main games. Looks like a small investment game anyway.

If they didn't have anything, they should have just bowed out of E3, citing how hard at work they are on their future products. There would have been disappointment, but they'd at least have their dignity.

It would have been better to be disappointed by their absence, rather than disappointed by the utter rubbish they presented.

When you go two systems, they do. I think most Wii U owners also own either a one or ps4 at this point ( I own a 4 myself).

The thing just is that the Wii U is not getting any of the multiplatform titles. Well, Skylanders is still there.

I wasn't much interested in it once I found out it was a party game.

For Star Fox, at least we had gameplay this time.

Mario Maker was beaten to death though. I won't deny that.

Star Fox, Yoshi, Mario Maker, Xenoblade and Mario Tennis is a more than OK 2015. Wii had some worse lineups in its latter years.

Its was a decent format, just sucked content-wise.

I loved the muppet thing. Brilliant! Cute! Better than the getting some game rep speaking about how their game is a "revolution" and literal "game changer". This was fun.

Like you said though, the games themselves were... eh.

I have to agree with this. NIntendo would have done better to show nothing than to show what they showed. Then their standing would be neutral. Now its negative.

You know the lineup itself wouldn't be that bad if Nintendo had third party support. I mean the quantity of exclusives is up there with Sony and Microsoft but the third party support is nill. Imagine filling in the software gaps with Fallout 4, AC: Syndicate, Call of Duty, FIFA, Arkham Knight, etc.

Totally agree.

AND I think Star Fox Zero looks AWESOME, visuals and everything

You'll be happy if they delay flagship games so they launch with the new system even if they're 'WiiU level'? I don't believe you believe that.

Star Fox looked super rough.

Animal Crossing Amiibo game isn't a proper game. Don't be ridiculous.

Mario Maker has been beat to death at this point. It's also a game people will tire of really fast.

They have nothing to show and their most complete looking game (Yoshi's Wooly World) doesn't even come out until October. People have every right to question Nintendo.

:O

I understand if they want to save the big games for the NX, like the next 3D Mario. That doesn't mean they can't have great smaller budget Wii U games like Toad Treasure Tracker. Whereas games like Animal Crossing Mario Party Clone and Mario Tennis seem so uninspired.

Did everyone forget what the last year of the Wii was like?

Or the last year of the GameCube?

Or the N64?

Considering how much of a failure the Wii U was, you should think yourselves lucky you're even getting this.

They had plenty to show. They just didn't

They could have shown Fast Racing Neo, Devil's Third, Project Treasure, Bravely Default Second, Fatal Frame V, Rodea: The Sky Soldier, Sonic and Mario at the Olympics 2016. Instead they gave people a whole lot of what they did not want.

As I've said in the other thread, even 2017 is too soon. The audience they need is the gamers--the people that go out and buy new consoles when they launch. Wii was a fluke, it was Furbies, it was Tickle-Me-Elmo. They didn't realize this, and now Wii U is a failure sales-wise.

Nintendo have a lot of work to do. They need to bring their online up to standard, they need to bring their power up to standard, and they need to open their wallets and get that third party support. They also need to revamp their marketing completely, stop giving systems stupid names, and start being consumer-oriented.

But no matter what they do, releasing NX in 2017 dooms it. It's the middle of the gen, assuming a 5-year cycle the next Xbox and PS5 launch in 2019, meaning NX would be two years behind them tech-wise. So do they lose whatever audience they gained to the actual next-gen hype? Or do they abandon NX after already abandoning Wii U and lose that audience anway?

Releasing early is a short-term solution, not a long-term solution. Long-term, it's lose-lose. Nintendo should dig into their savings and weather this out until the actual next gen starts so that they can be competitive while also having the benefit of having not abandoned their audience twice.

NX must come out in 2016, it'll only damage Nintendo if they let the Wii U wither away for any longer than that. Personally I think the earliest that the next systems from Microsoft and Sony would release is 2020. If the NX launches next year it would compete mostly with the PS4 and Xbone, and then Nintendo could release a successor not long after PS5 and Xbox 4, maybe in 2021, giving the NX a 5 year-cycle, at least hypothetically. If the NX will for the most part compete with Xbone and PS4 it could actually be the most powerful console out for a few years at least. They'll still need to convince 3rd parties to work on the platform, and for that they need a large user base, at the very least. But they won't get a significant user base if they don't have the third parties on-board.

Honestly, to compete again Nintendo will need some massive stuff outside of their first-party offerings. Something along the lines of Resident Evil 7 being exclusive to NX. Most likely wont happen but I don't know how else Nintendo could really get back in the game.

You'll be happy if they delay flagship games so they launch with the new system even if they're 'WiiU level'? I don't believe you believe that.

Considering that we are now finally getting to the point where most of the big AAA games aren't cross-gen, I am not worried in the least. Nintendo shifting certain games to NX says nothing about the power of the console. Pikmin 3 also started on Wii and was later transitioned to Wii U. Despite Wii U's performance compared to other consoles, it is a huge leap over Wii.

Besides the Metroid and Animal Crossing things, what all are people pissed about? Or is that it?

Nintendo: here are some expected or otherwise bland announcements of games you already knew we were working on.

Sony: Here are three of the biggest third party announcements that people have been asking for over a decade

It isn't just that Nintendo's outing was poor, it's that Sony's was so incredibly well received.

If you think Nintendo is planning on trying to woo tech-savvy Xbox One/PS4-owners with the NX my personal belief is you're in for a shock come 2016.

Yeah, I don't understand how some people think Nintendo is going to try to be more like Sony and Microsoft. The writing it on the wall with all the statements Iwata and Miyamoto have talked about over the past few years. They don't want to compete directly Sony and Microsoft and their home console is going to reflect this through hardware differentiation with less hardware power and a unique interface and/or hardware features. just as it has since the DS and Wii generation. Wii U's failure this generation is not going to scare Nintendo way to want to revert back to being a direct competitor. Nintendo will very likely continue to alienate major third parties support despite its next-gen unified architectural strategy which really is only going to probably appeal to only a few Japanese third parties and most of all, indies.

When Retro tweeted "Can you dig it," it wasn't a hint. It was a request to help dig the Wii U's grave.

This post inspired me to make this gif:

i0JE1mq.gif

Can someone add in the following?: retro studios logo as clint's head, neogaf logo as ''the ugly's head, and a wiiU as a head on the man rolling in the grave, and maybe a sign instead of the hat, saying RIP wiiu 2012-2015. My editing skills are beyond horrible.

When I think of the dev time put into that Metroid 3DS game... of all of the things they have in their arsenal, they created that. And it looks arguably worse than the original Metroid Prime Hunters!

That's assuming that pissing off the dedicated few who actually still bought the hardware isn't going to bite them in the arse even more.

Either they need to do something wii remote level revolutionary again or they're going to be even more screwed by this.

That much is expected considering there's no way anybody could have presented anything to beat Sony at that point

I only expected Donkey Kong to prepare myself for disappointment, and yet i was let down.

Highlights for me were Yokai Watch and Hyrule Warriors 3DS. And i knew about both Games before.

Wondering how the hell they can make Splatoon, a game where one of its main themes is about being cool and not get this?

This is the best analysis of the situation. Nintendo is going to kill itself if they drop the Wii U for whatever the NX is. They put themselves right back where they are, or possibly in an even worse position.

Been at work all day. What did I miss?
What is the meaning of this?

Here's, and I'm not exaggerating, all the Wii U news you missed during the event:
-Star Fox is now Star Fox Zero, coming 2015 (developed by Platinum, but for god knows what reason, they waited till after the event to mention this)
-Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival Announced
-new Mario Tennis announced
-Bowser and Donkey Kong in Skylanders
-Amiibo support for Mario Maker
-new #FE trailer
-Release dates for announced games

We don't even know this is the last year of Wii U. NX won't even be unveiled until next year apparently, which means it might not be releasing until 2017.

They can't just wrap up the Wii U with what they've already announced and call it a day.
