AMD Presents The PC Gaming Show Powered by PC Gamer with Day[9]

Why can't Valve even show up? Talk about what's happening with Dota or something. Anything. Biggest trade show of the year, and now with a dedicated PC show, and they can't drop by?

There wasn't a Nintendo "conference".

EDIT: There are people on NeoGAF have a very hard time adjusting to things that strays of the formula and ideal of big stages and trailers.

Sadly true.

This was a fine show, very interesting to hear insight on game development from various perspectives in PC gaming, and I'm glad Day9 hosted it because he was asking some great questions.

I'll repeat this because it's worth noting:

The conference was ~150 minutes
There were 29 guests/presentations

This gives each presentation ~5 minutes if we assume absolutely no time is wasted between presentations.

If there is a problem with length, it is not because they spent too much time on each game. It was because they showed too many games, which is going to be a problem because PC gaming has so many games, period. They didn't even try to touch on arenas outside of "core" gaming like browser or social gaming.

If you don't care about the games, that's a different problem. I think some people in here may be gamers who basically tune out as soon the game isn't AAA epic announcement that nobody saw coming.

Pretty good show! Especially for a first time. Hope it comes back next year. Day 9 is already the best presenter/MC in e3 history.

Also the diversity in games was amazing and the kind of thing you'd only see at a PC show. Good stuff!

I donno, I thought that was a very good first show for the PC side. Try and get some more funding next year (and hopefully not hardware sponsors), bring back Day9, show more gameplay, put it in 60fps, and I think it could be even better.

If they had been on time at 2 hours I think it would have felt about the right length. Really liked the format so long as D9 or someone of his sort of affable charisma is hosting it. Most the games aren't for me but I'm glad to see a pretty wide variety of stuff. Seems like a great first year, hopefully they'll make some fine tuning and bring it back this time next year.

I mean, I don't know how much faster you expect them to go. Really the only way to cut the time would be to show less things, and they're already doing a disservice to PC gaming by "only" showing 25ish games.

For starters, they could cut some AMD time. I'm not sure if anyone watching was actually interested in that segment, especially with AMD doing their own thing earlier.
Sadly not, because sponsorship.

The idea for this show was a good one. Unfortunately, it didn't have much for me personally. I'm not a big fan of AAA titles, but they're the flashiest, so they're going to be the ones that are likely to be showcased in a convention. The format is also not that great - yeah having the developers talk a bit about their games has its value, but it's not all that entertaining on a stage. I hope they learn their lessons and come back with a better show next year.

If Valve shows up and just talks about Dota people will bitch that it isn't HL3. Valve has announced plenty of huge Dota changes recently and I think the people who are interested in Dota have heard them.

Day9 did his best but couldn't save that talkshow from dragging on to two and a half hours.

Next time, if there is one, cut the chatter (which is mostly just PR fluff - see every time AMD or MS talked), and cut the guests.

If there is a problem with length, it is not because they showed nothing. It was because they showed too much.

I enjoyed it. You don't have to repeat yourself. There's room for refinement.

I much preferred this to the other conferences.

The host could have been more authentic, but the show format was definitely genuine and honest compared to the other ones.

Well, if their goal was to have nobody watch next year's PC Gaming Show, I think they pretty much hit their goal right in the bullseye there. What an amazing waste of time.

I felt that some guests had basically nothing to show or say. Chris Roberts stuff was pointless. Obsidian only showed up with a CGI trailer for the Pillars expansion. Either you have something to show or you don't.

I just hope next year is a bit more compatible with international fans. It's nearly three hours, starting from three in the morning here in Germany.

This kills the German.

I'm just glad I'm still on sick leave.

It wasn't the most overwhelming thing at E3, but for a first time I thought it was actually just fine, the host was great, more than anything I think now that it's a thing, they can make it better next year, I do like the casual talk show atmosphere as opposed to every other conference.

I didn't know what I expected to happen but I did expect a surprise at the end, even if it wasn't HL3.

The only other thing I'd add is that Blizzard and AMD *coughcough* ate up decent chunks of time. I guess the AMD stuff is unavoidable since they sponsored the show, but both segments really ground the forward momentum to a halt and took up more time than I liked.

Still, good stuff all around from a lot of different devs. Day9 did do a good job moving things along.

Hardware sponsors are fine, I like hearing about the tech that's behind my games, just should have been confined to 1 appearance, not 2 as was the case tonight. I like Richard Huddy but he was unnecessary.

Yeah, I've never seen people pushing their new hardware or talking up their corporate synergies at a console manufacturers E3 show.

For the same reason that Apple doesn't show up at CES. They can do their own thing whenever they want on their own terms.

I'd say it was ok. I liked the different format and Day9 as host, the announcements were pretty ok too. Though compared to the other conferences I found this format is a bit too long winded.

Final verdict on the shows:

Sony 9.5
Nintendo World Championship 9.0
Bethesda 8.5
Microsoft 7.5
Ubisoft 7.0
Square 7.0
PC Gaming Show 6.5
Nintendo 6.5
EA 6.0

Fun E3 so far, can't wait to see more of the games in the upcoming days.

I felt that some guests had basically nothing to show or say. Chris Roberts stuff was pointless. Obsidian only showed up with a CGI trailer for the Pillars expansion. Either you have something to show or you don't.

I can understand this sentiment, but the pillars expansion will almost certainly launch before virtually anything Sony showed, for instance. There's no question that PC gaming is not as good at packaging sizzle reels for commercial production.

Even the people watching in the studio kind of got up slowly in a ''this isn't the real ending right?'' Some proper confused and where the fuck is Half Life 3 faces going on at the end.

Honestly, I'm a bit surprised they didn't end on Blizzard. No Man's Sky has been covered to death, and covering it once more isn't worth a grand finale.
