Street Fighter V Tournaments and Showcase featuring: Daigo, Justin Wong, & PogChamp,

I'm sure Birdie getting the nerf bat before the game is anywhere even near out. He dominated so hard today.
Nah, that's just the grappler affect. They dominate early on and then people learn how to deal with them and then there an alright tier until people complain about them being op and then they become even worse then they were before. Even then, the game is still in an unfinished state and a lot of moves probably won't work the way they did before.

High damage and easy stun makes me think combos are going to be very short. Plus, no FADC-esque mechanic to elongate strings of hits. That is kinda disappointing to me as a huge combo fan. Combo videos will probably showcase 7 hit 90% damage combos. It will be interesting.

You do have a point vanilla SF4 churning butter (Gief) was blowing people up left and right, but half the shit that Birdie was doing from what I watched had nothing to do with him being a grapple character. I highly doubt he stays at the top though, imagine a lot of bull shit stuff still yet to come.

I hate to be that guy, but Birdie has a shit ton of tools. Like if you were to try to briefly describe each character's style, you could talk about Chun's normals or Cammy's mixups. Birdie is a grappler with ranged attacks, normals, and ground traps.

I'm not really worried about it, because I know there are a lot of balance changes happening as we speak. And even after the game comes out they'll making tweaks.

Anyone know if Amazon PS4 preorders get beta access?

Yep

I just took everything we saw today as stuff that's all going to massively change in the 10 months or so before this comes out. We'll be talking about alpha version boob bounce.

I'll be ok with that...as long as said bounce transfers over to R. Mika.

or they add a (functional) age slider.

These are both true and even then birdie seems like a character with just strong straightforward tools. There are still a lot of things we may not have seen from all the characters and I just hate to pre maturely nerfing a character because of a day 0 gameplay. If people find out something about birdie that could make his match ups hard then the pre mature nerf could make it even worse.

I would be surprised if Capcom took any "birdie op pls nerf" criticisms seriously at this point. I'm confident they'll get it right. And if they don't, they can still fix it after the fact.

Got a chance to play this quite a bit today. It's so pretty in person. Not digging how gross Birdie looks, but that's just a personal preference. I mainly stuck to Cammy and the changed normals really threw me off. Birdie seemed strong, but its so early no point dwelling on anything.

Will probably play a lot more tomorrow.

Oh...shit. Well, guess I'm waiting until fall, then. I have it preordered on steam, but I don't wanna buy a new stick for PS4 yet. Can't go back to pad. Oh well.

Birdie will prolly lose the ranged chain grabs, or see them slowed down.

He didn't have those in Alpha (he did have a grab that jumped over fireballs), and they are kind of too much.

With that fixed, Birdie should go to reasonable levels

So hey, I've got the fighting game itch and SFV looks great. I don't have a PS4 though, so no beta action for me yet, and it's been a looong time since I've played a traditional fighting game. Would it be worth grabbing USFIV to relearn on while it's on sale on Steam? Does anyone still play it online on PC?

It's 15$ right now and it still had players. I did the same thing. Sold my console and Arcade stick when I decided to build a gaming PC and SFV hype just overtook me. Kind of excited cause I never did get to try out Ultra.

"I felt like the chains weren't even that bad. Am I alone on that? His head butts were crazy. That ex version was terrifying."

The chains looked fairly slow and possibly really punishable on block. The range was also pretty middling.

People overreacting to new stuff as usual.

Yeah, I saw the chains whiff more than most things by the Birdie players.

I felt like his V-Gauge lasted too long or just helped him do way too much damage if you land like 2 clean hits.

Those headbutts also seemed super unsafe. Also, *everyone* does insane damage. It seems as though you're judging the damage from a SF4 viewpoint.

I think 'i read that in V trigger headbutts were unblockable but I might be mistaken

The headbutts are definitely blockable in v-trigger, you can watch the Combo/Mike Ross character breakdown and see that.

it seemed like cammy's specials use her v trigger while others like ryu and chunli doesn't? kinda unfair imo, mago used up the whole trigger with just 2 spiral arrows, both were blocked too

Hah right on, I'll give it a go then :)

Different characters, different mechanics. Nash blows it all in one move, Bison's lasts for a very long time.

A few times, the Birdie player's chain would get blocked at max range, and he would just barely get a back dash off before being punished. I imagine that it will be punishable with more practice.

Imo unless she can directly combo into vtrigger it's not worth using unless you can hit confirm everytime from her cr.mk
I didn't know nash's is just 1 time use, but I can see it's pretty powerful, you can combo from his genocide cutter into his teleport too

Played a lot of Nash today. Getting used to his increased startup and recovery on Sonic Boom will take time. Also, none of his medium normals seemed special cancellable. Comboing out of his low lights seemed okay, though.

I think it's about over all balance. Some will have strong v-reversal other strong v-skills or v-trigger. Other will have a great over all game and maybe all three are weak or some mix of all those.

WHAT? Everything does 100% damage now? From the looks of it, this game probably won't have characters like Evil Ryu or Sakura. But still, just doing a simple 4 move combo with no scaling does a ton of damage.

Combos damage scaling? Raw supers were definitely doing way more damage than when comboed into.

whoops I was thinking of GUTS for some reason.

yea there is scaling but it does not seem as suffering as it is in SF4

Just thought of something, can you block into parry as ryu? For example on multi hit moves where the last hit comes out slow

Anyone here want to start a list of questions? I'm going back to the Capcom booth tomorrow, I'll try to pull Combofiend off to the side and get him to talk.
