Killer Instinct announced for PC

you have a point about PC being more expensive than consoles. but some of us already have a decent PC to play games on " like me for example with R290 ATI card "

yet i had to invest a 400$ on xbox one. that extra money could have been avoided if i knew certain games would come to another platform.

exclusives should be exclusive.its the reason why people for example buy nintendo platform or Sony platform. MS is totally doing it wrong.

So you want to be forced to buy a platform you don't really want in order to play certain games that could otherwise be on your preferred platform?

I'm starting to think that MS are phasing out the xbox, and are going in the direction of a steam box equivalent next generation.

I wanted to play this. I played 1 and 2 when they were in the arcades. I watch the footage now and then and the game looks fun. I do wonder if MS disproves of this, but KI has already made them money so far. The game has also been worth looking into because of the season packs. If you start off with a small cast you just assume it wouldn't take very long for players to get good and move on, but the additional cast has made some interesting videos from what I've seen online. Max's daily matches had me interested because he didn't stick to a main.

I didn't plan on getting an XB1 anytime soon, but KI is coming to PC and so is Gears. That is pretty cool.

Well, looks like one reason I wanted an Xbox One is crossed off the list.

Well, two reasons since Gears Ultimate is also coming to PC.

Well, Microsoft's "One Microsoft" approach and making Windows the core and unified platform for many different devices is something that I could see consuming the Xbox.

Making the Xbox just another Windows PC with a UX suitable for the living room (and still a single spec that could be targeted) isn't something that I feel is that farfetched. Not this generation, but the tech world is all about getting people into your ecosystems these days - and those with the lowest barrier to entry are often those that get the long term success, and forcing people to spend hundreds of dollars on a box to get into that ecosystem may be something Microsoft want to tear down.

If you want to access that ecosystem in a console like fashion, you'll still have to buy an Xbox, so not much will change there - but on top of that, the people that want to access it elsewhere in the Microsoft ecosystem (e.g the other Windows devices) can do.

The primary purpose of the Xbox being isolated from other capable Microsoft systems goes against everything Microsoft is talking about at the moment. They don't want your device to be the limiter on what you can do in the Microsoft ecosystem, that's why you see Microsoft Office on iOS and Android (a product far more important than a few games) - for example. If the Xbox doesn't conform to Microsoft's principles then I feel there will be renewed calls for Xbox to be spun off, because it'll eventually become an irrelevancy to Microsoft's overall vision.

If you decided you no longer need to invest in an Xbox because Killer Instinct got a PC port announced after two seasons, Microsoft wasn't sweating you in the first place, people.

Aside from how gross of an extrapolation this is, it's fairly akin to suggesting that Steam is leaving the desktop space and creating a console equivalent. It's a change in form factor or specs that retains the service, and both ends of the spectrum here support more variable and less variable hardware.

Qassim. i do not have a perferred platform. loyality to a plastic box isn't my thing. i buy Nintendo / Sony / Xbox for their exclusive games they are offering. multiplatform games are gonna be bought on the best possible version i can play with.

now you invest money on xbox one for it's exclusives. later on you find these exclusives coming to another console / platform. then it makes you wonder why you spent money on this plastic box if the exclusive games they have / offering are also coming to different platform ?

this is not just an xbox one thing. the same can be said to Sony as well. but MS is much worse.

This is like releasing God of war or GT7 / any other high profile Sony games on PC. why on earth i would buy a PS4 if these games are the reason i bought a PS4 too.

It makes sense now. Single windows 10 is gonna be the same for every platform, the Xbox one will be a cheaper steam machine sort of. PC gamers paid for their rigs and can play windows games or Xbox gamers can do the Same just at a cheaper price I like that these games are coming to PC also these great games need to sell and be recognized.

This is the one Xbox One exclusive that benefits the most from being ported to PC. It'll expand the playerbase and hopefully make it more relevant in the FGC. Smart decision.

Hopefully they'll announce Season 3 soon.

Glad for PC gamers. Love watching Killer Instinct at Evo. Also it will probably be a Window 10 exclusive and be only on the Window store, I wonder how many people won't buy it because of that.

Good news. MS should just wait a few years and port some games over to PC, seems a bit silly not to really. If someone didn't buy the console to play KI when it came out in 2013, doesn't seem likely they'll buy one in 2016 to play it either.

And it's not like the X1 and PC are competing either. If people are genuinely saying this coming to PC means they don't have to buy an X1, I'd question why they waited two years in the first place. If you really wanted to play this, you would have bought the console day one...you didn't, so you weren't really going to buy the console anyway.

Seems silly to try and suggest you were...

I highly doubt Microsoft will always release PC games at the same time as their console counterparts. All Xbox One games so far that met PC were ported quite awhile after they had their chance on the console.

Additionally, Microsoft seems to have taken cross-buy to heart. So if you buy it on a console, you'll get to play it on PC and vice-versa. Technically, you're not really at a disadvantage. Especially since cross-play games means a bigger player base.

Eh, maybe. In the end I think they just want all people, whether than want to play on laptops, desktops or in the living room, to be able to choose what they want. If that living room experience is best served with a closed box, then they'll have another closed box I guess Here's some quotes from Phil Spencer regarding this topic from Giant Bombs stream:

"I want to be able to play the games I want to play where I play them"

He doesn't subscribe to the mindset that you "Have to keep people from playing in certain places"

"Forcing people to buy something by excluding their choice doesn't feel right"

"We'll push through how some people see that we're betraying the Xbox Nation"

In the end more people on Live, more people in the Xbox ecosystem and more choice for gamers. I think that's their end goal.

Wouldn't you like to have the choice with more of your games? Wouldn't like it if you didn't have to buy a specific console for a specific game? You like to have to buy several devices that broadly do the same thing just to play exclusive software?

Like, I can understand the thought process (even if I don't agree) with feeling like you've wasted money once you've already bought it - but look at it from the perspective of not having to buy it in the first place. Surely that is appealing to you?]

This probably the only logical reason someone can not be very pissed about MS way of handling things. 2 years of exclusivity isn't really a bad thing. Still, i really do not like how MS is handing things. nothing can be done tho.

R.I.P xbox.A console without exclusive is dead. With GOW and KI on pc MS killed permanently x1 in Europe.

Cross-buy helps too. If you buy a game on Xbox One and it gets ported to PC, chances are you won't have to double-dip to play it. That definitely helps make this change easier, for me anyway.

Then it comes down to your preference as a gamer. Do you buy a console because you want to play the game when it comes out? Or do you not mind as much about waiting and play it on PC if/when its eventually ported.

KI was one of the reasons I bought an Xbox One. Hopefully PC gamers will enjoy to keep the game going.

Sure, multiplatform games give everyone access to the game and more availability in the end is generally beneficial to the companies, but I feel that exclusives give systems an identity. wWho would buy Nintendo systems if all of the games will eventually come to your PC, Xbox or PS4? Yeah, not not having to buy system X just for those handful of exclusive games you want is nice, but on the contrary imo it gives you a reason to invest in their console and receive a different experience from each console.

Love the over reactions. If Ms was smart they would offer cross buy / save with xbone and windows 10. It would drive consoles sales. If this upsets up, well you might be a fanboy....lol.

You guys should listen to GB interview with Phil. He doesn't feel it's right to force people to buy xbone to play Ms games. Windows is a Ms product too. Really hope he does the right thing.

I don't think you get his point. It's a good thing if you don't need to buy lots of little plastic boxes to play the games you want.

You've bought Xbox console. You should have know most of it's exclusives will get to pc eventually. That $400 is price for convienience and getting those games sometimes sooner.

Yay, didn't expect to wake up to such great news. Hoping there's cross platform play! Edit: There's cross play, nice!

if i had a choice from the start, then yes it would be great. but you don't they force you to buy the box for X exclusive. then this exclusive might come to PC or not depends on ur luck. in this case KI. no one knew it was coming to PC.

however like Fable legends, i have a choice now where to buy the game, and guess what ? i will buy it on PC.

Yeah, I think they announced the GOW Ultimate Edition recently is coming to PC.

i lolled . jesus

exactly my point. thank you

Not really. it wasn't like that with xbox 360 ( maybe couple of games here and there). and i love that system. but with xbox one ? Ryse, Dead rising, Fable, KI and i just heard of GOW also being ported. god knows what else.

I don't really see what we as gamers are getting out of this and why we should want to prop that up? All I see there is corporate interests, which I don't share.

Microsoft's corporate interests can't really be directly compared to Sony and Nintendo's as Microsoft has two gaming platforms that they (arguably) should. Them throwing a few games here and there to one of their gaming platforms is hardly them abandoning the other.

I don't understand how microsoft should throw few games on a PC. it's already doing fine. Releasing couple of games of 1 or 2 years exclusives isn't helping the system. at the end of the day all these pc games are running on windows platform which belongs to MS regardless if they released those games or not. any gamer who wants to invest in pc gaming will not install a lunix or mac os. this much is given.

if anything, they are hurting their other side of divison " xbox one"

In the end, money is made from software sales, not from hardware sales.

Great news for everyone.

Hopefully Sony will do the same for its exclusives, but I doubt that will ever happen given the nature of the Japanese gaming market as PC gaming isn't really a big thing. Even Blizzard doesn't bother to make Japanese localization for its games.

That's great ! And since it's free to play I will be sure my computer can handle it, awesome news.

Gears of War too ? I made my choice for the PS4 two days ago, but MS keeps making the choice easier.

I'm sure as long as you're in their ecosystem, MS will be satisfied. That seems to be the direction they're headed.

As a Xbox One owner and Killer Instinct player I for one am very pleased this is happening. The KI scene here in northern europe is very small so having a potentially bigger player base is always a nice thing to have. Most of my friends that play fighting games have been saying for over a year now that they would buy KI if it came to PC. None of them were ever going to buy a 400€ console for one game (most of them only play fighting games).

Basically, Microsoft's strategy is encouraging everyone to use their online services (i.e. make an account) regardless what device you use.

Now the bigger question arises: Does the game require Xbox Gold to play online?

On PC? No. Gold isn't required for anything on PC afaik.

More specifically, their software. If you have an Xbox One or Windows 10, you're going to spend money to buy games and applications. It doesn't matter to them where you use it, which is the purpose of cross-buy.

As of late I've been doing most of my gaming on just that (Win8 Alienware Alpha), so I'd be totally down for a loss-leading device subsidized by MS.
