Windows 10 is a free upgrade, on all copies of Windows 7 and 8if you get what I'm saying.
No need to spoiler tag that, Microsoft said it themselves that you can upgrade non-legal copies of Windows...

Yea, but they upgrade into non-legal Windows 10. So if you're not already running a non-legal Windows 7 or 8, I don't see what the point would be.
I know, but I didn't want to be seen to be actively encouraging it.
I didn't think that was the case? I thought the upgrade was legit.
Well that's nice to hearYou don't have to pay to play online on windows 10
am I reading youtube comments

They'd simply rather you be a Windows 10 pirate than a Windows 7 pirate (for ecosystem reasons). They're not creating a "get Windows 10 for free" loophole.
Got to ask yourself if MS decided to bring over Forza and Halo to the PC then how relevant will actually owning a XB1 actually be. I know this is great news for PC owners that GoW and KI are coming to PC but I can't help feel they are slowly killing the XB1.
I won't be surprised it the next incarnation of the Xbox won't be just a £100 app/platform/service for windows 11 and MS leave hardware behind
Well obviously you're right, but my thought was they would rather people were on Windows 10 legit, even having paid nothing, recouping costs from the store etc.
By them saying windows 10, I'm thinking they mean you have to have the OS to run it. Might not be a store exclusive. I'm fine with this.
Once people start taking off their system warz hat the first thing they'll hopefully think is that software and service sales are the only reason to make hardware. Hardware doesn't make money unless you're Apple, so if you get your software and services on more hardware you make more money.
So... it will be on Steam right? This won't force you to use some sort of Xbox/Windows app to get it and play it?

Considering it's designed to be played against Xbox players, you can pretty much count on it requiring an Xbox App of some sort.
They can require that if they want, just let me buy the damn thing on Steam. Put trading cards in it and let me take big picture screenshots and shit natively. Plenty of Steam games require other clients to run (Uplay, Rockstar Social Club, etc.) so it wouldn't be anything new. In fact it'd be a lot more convenient in this case since the additional "client" will be built-in to your OS.
Hmm maybe. I'm not sure that benefits MS attempt to gain more visibilty for their store (which is probably the reason any of these games are happening), but Killer Instinct in particular could use all the visibility it can get.
Oh man, that would be sweetCool to hear this. Any chance PC is getting Rare Replay too?
Any video game will get way more visibility on Steam than it would in the integrated Windows market. Like an order of magnitude more.
If MS wants to trojan-horse PC gamers into their ecosystem then releasing on Steam is actually the best possible thing they could do.
Maybe in isolated scenarios this is true (Killer Instinct directing people to the Windows Store for other software), but if the games are reliably released on Steam, then why wouldn't people just continue buying them, and everything else off Steam?
If you're honest, that's exactly what you yourself would do, right? Otherwise you wouldn't be so adamant about being able to buy this game on Steam in the first place.
Do you not play games on PC or something? Many Steam games open up an additional client when you launch them. When I click "Play" on Watch Dogs it just opens up the Uplay client. Rockstar is doing it now with their Social Club. Sounds like Bethesda will have something similar with their new games going forward too.
It's annoying, and yes I wish that companies wouldn't do it, but I'd rather they do that than pull an EA and just not release on Steam at all.
Yea I do play quite a bit on PC, and pretty much everything I own was bought from Steam. That's not my point though. There's a reason EA pulled an EA, and that's because they were paying Valve a 30% cut to do shit they could do for themselves. If everyone buys MS' games off Steam, then not only are MS paying a 30% on their own games, on their own OS, but they also don't gain a 30% cut of their own on other people's games. That's the whole point of them having their own store, and throwing everything they make on Steam is essentially just strengthening the enemy.
Yea, but they upgrade into non-legal Windows 10. So if you're not already running a non-legal Windows 7 or 8, I don't see what the point would be.
Right, but many people won't even buy EA's games now because of Origin. Like me for example, I'll buy them on console if I buy them at all. My PC lives under the television in my living room and Steam is the only client that is 100% usable with a controller. To buy a game on Origin I have to bust out a mouse and keyboard or some shit. No thanks.
Now if MS stops being a bunch of dicks and actually treats their own controllers as valid input devices at the OS level then fine. Buying games from their store wouldn't be a hindrance then. If they start getting all new releases there then I might even switch to their app over Steam.
Not holding my breath for that though.
I'm sure of the difference, I'm sure I've seen cracked versions of windows 7 which are completely indiscernible from legit versions. Even said Genuine with a code when I looked on their properties. It was weird.
Just don't make us have to buy the set list of characters like they tried on Xbawks 1 or there won't be any combo breakers happening
I hope they're not planning on releasing some new version of GFWL. Just release it on Steam and people will be happy.
Let's be honest. You weren't going to buy one anyway. The only reason I ever had to buy an Xbone. Free from the burden now.
There is no way this will release on steam. They will want to push the windows store and why would they pay valve money when Microsoft has the servers to handle the downloads.
Cross buy and cross play would be really difficult to pull off on steam without resurrecting GFWL

I think there are some who were waiting for season 2/3 to be completed. I wasn't initially sold on the original 6 character roster and waited for more characters and refinement before purchasing one.The game has been out for two years. If you were going to buy an Xbox One for KI, you would have by now. You're not fooling anyone.
Take it outside.

Agreed. It seemed snarkyOh, I don't doubt that some people had legitimate reasons for waiting to buy it.
At the same time, based on the tone of his response, I don't believe that he is one of those people.

Cross buy, yeah - but I don't see why being on Steam would make it difficult to do cross-play? You can release a game on Steam that integrates 0 Steam features or functionality, Steam at its minimum can just be a marketplace and download service/.
