[IGN] 40 minute Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain demo 1080p60 - 6/18 at 5 AM PST

Can't believe there are still people who doubt this game. That last trailer showed off like 50+ scenarios where there will be cutscenes. Why would anyone doubt the story focus of the game? Why would anyone doubt Kojima? Why???

The opening/closing cutscenes in Ground Zeroes proved this is will be a great Metal Gear game that is rich in everything.

Some really have a hard time accepting the fact that this is an open world game. Its not a linear 8 hour corridor game anymore. Just let it go and move on.

This is shaping up to be an all time great. Crow is gonna be served. People will be ashamed of their words.

People for the last 15 years: MGS is like a movie, where's the gameplay???

People now: Too much gameplay, where's the story??

Nobody is ever happy, If there's one rule all game developers should follow it's clearly "ignore criticism by anonymous internet nerds"

That's called speedpass. They have that in real life. Its for people that have more money than patience/time.
How does this affect you?
I have more money than time, so it's aimed at me. In any case, with speed pass you skip the lines, not the attraction. This only works if you think the main game is like waiting in line, in which case it's a doubly terrible design decision and it affects everyone.

Presentation could've been better. The part with the mech vs the armored was painful.
He wanted to show how formidable the enemy is.
Am i the only one that is bothered by the mission design? it seems like in all of the presentation they did the objectives were always simplistic, "rescue him", "eliminate him", "retrieve the document" and such, objectives were always pretty basic, i want some cool scenarios like in previous MGS :/

I think these missions make up a good bit of the game since it's essential to build up your motherbase. I assume after a few of these type of missions there will be a more significant story mission.

Same people who complain that the Witcher 3 has too much side quest.

Honestly though I am very interested in watching speedruns of this game after completing it.

The way people have tackled Ground Zeroes Missions is incredible.

Phantom Pain is much more complex with more systems at play.

He wanted to show how formidable the enemy is.

I don't get why people think Building up Motherbase is 'busywork' . Its part of Big Boss's Character , he was known as a Charismatic leader and the one who lead Outer Haven.

That was one of my concerns, I rarely ever did any base building in Peace Walker as it was too much time spent in menus, atleas there it's a bit different but I am 100% sure the ending will depend on how you make your base.

I also have been quite worried about how the sneaking is quite simplistic in terms of functionality and how the AI is more complex with its path choice now, yes it's considerably more realistic, but I want my stupid gadgets and enemies that I can exploit lol.

^...and this.

So much. So very, very much.

Considering previous games could be beaten comfortably in less than 3 hrs and had way more than 3hrs worth of Cutscenes.

Its funny how people want more Cutscenes less Gameplay.

Watch people play Ground Zeroes and speedrun it . You'll learn a lot.

I'm with you. I don't get why everyone is so butthurt over those of us who are okay with this type of microtransaction. Me spending a few extra dollars to speed up production, or better optimize my playtime doesn't effect any other player. It's not like I'm buying a God Mode in MGO or anything.

I just want to play it already!

Fuck, it's hard to wrap my head around how huge this is. I keep forgetting that MGO3 is also a part of this package!

I just hope there are more locations than just Afghanistan and Africa (which I'm sure there are) and a gripping story (like MGS1-4). I want some jungle action, baby!

Research is instant. I'm pretty sure its just GMP which is the currency used to do the research so you don't have to do more missions if you feel like researching everything.

Why do you think that because I have concerns it automatically means I do not understand it or don't know how to play it? lol
If you are referring to exploiting enemy then I know you can still do that bu tit's not really the same thing.

I just hope the game has enough weird stuff for gaemplay, there is in story but I want some in gameplay too :p

"Comfortably" and "in less than 3 hours"?
Get out lol

Foxhound MGS 3 in 1h13 minutes European Extreme.

If you played the game 4-5 times and memorise some of the fights , you'll be able to do it comfortably in less than 3 hrs on normal.

Why do you think that because I have concerns it automatically means I do not understand it or don't know how to play it? lol

Because you think that running the previous MGS games in 3hrs is amazing?

Very disappointing demo IMO. It will get old really fast. There is basically no difference between the first and the second mission. It's basically a glorified Peace Walker. Everything that made MGS great is missing here. Why name the game MGS to begin with?

This proves nothing, I know the game has been beaten that quickly in speedruns....but you simply cannot post speed runs as an example while talking about a game's length. What you do not talk about is the time it took to finish those 4-5 runs, what you do not talk about is the multiple failures that guy had while playing....this is why it's pointless to use this in a discussion about a game's length. MGS games have been solid ~10 hours of gameplay for first time experience not counting the cutscenes.

And when you say "comfortably" , you are implying that everyone can do this and it's easy to do it when it isn't.

It's way more interesting than PW's base building. This Motherbase is Integrated directly into gameplay beyond menus and resource management.

In multiplayer, you build your Forward Operating Base (basically, design-your-own Metal Gear level) and, if you so choose, defend against other players trying to steal your resources. In single player, you can visit the base and interact with your staff, plus Kojima said that if you piss off factions enough, they will launch attacks.

-_-, I seriously don't get all the Peace Walker Hate .

The point of the Demo was to show you the tools you could use and the customization. Not to show you story missions.

For what it's worth I tweeted Kenichiro Imaizumi (the producer of MGSV) and asked him what he thought of Hayter not being the voice of Big Boss in the Phantom Pain. He favourited the tweet but didn't respond. Not sure if this means anything.....

Hmm that is kind of odd if you think about it.

It can mean that Hayter is in and it's secret, but Ken favorited it as a "twinkle in his eye" kind of thing.

Or he favorited it because he was against the firing of Hayter, and he wants fans to know but can't say anything so outlandish because it would risk his own job.

Or...he's just happy you're tweeting about his game.

If not that you don't have to build up your motherbase very much. It's there as an option for you to acquire more weapons, gadgets, intel etc. which gives the game a lot more depth. Something that adds to the mix called fun. Building it up allows for some seriously cool shit and a mission dynamic never seen before in any game. This demonstration pushed The Last Of Us Remastered off the list as the best damn game ever in my opinion.
PC-version is going to be glorious.

That didn't stop people from saying Ground Zeroes is a 5minute demo posting people running the main mission and none of the side ops in 3min ish.

Of course the guy had multiple failures he was playing on European Extreme.

Uncharted 4 and this game is going to be Glorious.

Has anyone pointed out the fact Big Boss is fluent in Russian and wouldn't need a translator to understand enemy soldiers?

Edit:

I asked the same question , apparently Kojima said in an interview the brain damage from the coma made him forget Russian.

REALLY?

Because you think that running the previous MGS games in 3hrs is amazing?
Care to read the post you quoted where you tell me to watch Ground Zeros speedruns and learn?

You'll see that there was absolutely nothing about game time in that...I was talking about AI path finding and gadgets.

Head trauma from helicopter crash + years in a coma = he lost that part of his brain function

It's a thing that happens in real life, apparently.

Double Edit: At least Kojima caught it. It would be much worse if he didn't catch it or offer an explanation.

If you watch the speed runs by some people you can see they perfectly map out the AI's pathfinding using smokebombs and other gadgets to troll the hell out of the AI.

They also have amazing sense of timing.

Eg setting C4 in a location , calling in the chopper . Blowing up the APC while in the Chopper Using the C4.

Are you disappointed in the mission objective or how the mission was done? And yes it is basically Peace Walker on steroids.

See, I used to be exactly the same way. Since MGS1 and Tenchu 1 I've been a stealth purist. No gadgets, no combat, just ghost through every level.

In MGS, as a very last resort I used the tranq pistol.

I've ghosted Splinter Cell 1-3, Thief 1-3, MGS 1-4 etc, and I did the same for Ground Zeroes, too.

But one time I got in a fight in Ground Zeroes and, tired of trying to get the S-rank for so long, I just went with it. I shot my way out of the fight.

And it was glorious. Unlike in practically every other stealth game ever, combat in Ground Zeroes is actually just as good as the stealth is. It's not too easy, it's thrilling, the shooting itself is satisfying and the ways enemies react is fun. I've always seen my playthroughs in MGS as pure-stealth, but now I'll happily play it as an action game, too.

... The heck you smoking?

The collectibles are all usable items. They get you more money/resources to get more gadgets or weapons with. Or they're cassettes, which reveal more of the story (without interrupting gameplay) or give you more music.

This isn100% unlike a Ubisoft game, where 75% of the collectibles, and the ones in greatest abundance, add nothing to the gameplay.

And this isn't "cookie cutter" side mission territory either. The side missions are just as hand-crafted and unique as the campaign missions. What's more, they open up new gameplay mechanics like interrogations or buddies.

I think you took away a lot of misconceptions from this demo. But I think the demo was a bad idea for overexplaining and overrevealing a lot of the game's systems.

I think there are legit concerns about how spread out the game is with the amount of side ops, and the potential for players to grow tired of the gameplay before they reach the end.

It's not the first time it's happened with an open world game, and it won't be the last. However, it seems they are doing things to combat game fatigue by having enemies that combat a players static play styles, meaning I probably can't go into multiple bases doing the same shit over and over, which is generally the number one cause of player fatigue, repetition.

I still have a few concerns, I wish the enemy guards were more aware of distant movement and sound. Sure, Snake hit a chair and had a guard investigate, but the mech magically being silent as the player hears it tear shit up, sneaking up on a guard is pretty OP and laughable, along with Snake running completely silent and screaming "DD" right next to the guards with them not noticing.

Small details, yes, but it's the small details in a game that thrives on small details that make games for me. When I see things like that go unnoticed it takes me out.

What's funny is that if it were JUST Africa or JUST Afghanistan, people would just be talking about how huge it is and wouldn't even consider a seperate area. But since there's two open worlds you can't help but ask "is that it?"

Where else would Big Boss even go in 1984? The middle-east and Africa were polical and military hotzones at that time (they still are...) but where else would he go? A slavic country? South Asia? Remember, it has to be in "Occupied Territory" so that there's no civilians around.

What has that got to do with me and my comments for fuck's sake?
You are mixing up all the posts I made and your replies to me are based on what others have said? That makes no absolutely sense.

Haven't played Ground Zeroes yet, plan on getting both for PC once I upgrade.

I like using my Dualshock 2 on my PC with an adapter.

Is this good enough to work with MGSV?

I guess what I'm asking is--are analog triggers required?

Because I want this, it looks amazing!

Research is instant. I'm pretty sure its just GMP which is the currency used to do the research so you don't have to do more missions if you feel like researching everything.

I thought the early previews said the menu was something like "speed up" with a button to spend/buy microtransactions. That makes me think that development will take time, and you can pay to "phantom cigar" it.

Do we even know if these areas are that big?

Whether this game does or doesn't devolve into regular-ass fetch-quests we've seen time and time again in other open world games remains to be seen. But the game mechanics shown so far are fucking ace.

There's just one more thing I'm worried about, which is boss fights. Wouldn't mind looking at one. For fuck's sake, I hope it's not the utter crap we saw in PW.

Well...*pretty minor spoilers, everyone could guess easily*

A boss fight with Quiet, across an afghan valley and among ruins, is the first in the game

My father had a brain stroke year and half ago and lost most of his speech. He can still talk some but its hard for him to have a 'normal' conversation most of the time. It's called expressive aphasia. Not sure if that's what BB has, but maybe similar?

What has that got to do with me and my comments for fuck's sake?

Whatever if you feel that the games take a long time to complete after you memorized most of the stuff and had a bit of practice then its your opinion.

D. Walker seems like the "Very Easy" buddy option.

Very Easy--D.Walker
Easy--D.D.
Medium--Quiet
Hard--Horse

It seems like they designed the buddies in tiers. I'd imagine the horse would offer the least amount of support.

FUCK

why did I click that? :/

lol

Its not really a spoiler come on, its a bit more complicated than that.

Remember she saved your life to save hers.

D. Walker seems like the "Very Easy" buddy option.

Its not that simple.

D.D is used for finding rare stuff.

Quiet is good for scouting . Depending on your playstyle if you researched the Tranquilizer sniper . She can be a valuable non-lethal asset.

I believe depending on the Mission each buddy would have a chance to shine.
