haven't seen a large version of this. looks like someone did some awful photoshopping on it to remove the colour though

So If the issue with Shenmue 1 & 2 HD is with the licensing of the engine what are the chances of a remake using UE4 to put them in line with 3 graphically? I'm sure it wouldn't cost too much or take too long given all the other assets are done. Obviously it would have to be done by SEGA or at least with their blessing again but If it was the latter I'd happily throw into another Kickstarter to make it happen

Breaking out my Dreamcast and Japanese versions of I and II tonight. My past self in 2001 would've never have imagined I'd be able to play this game in straight Japanese.

I almost own every version of the game except Shenmue U.S. I would like that even though it's just the American dub with Japanese subtitles LOL.

For those asking that Shenmue comes out for the PS4.... Will the game require some work as the polygon count may be too low to look good today?
if we get a remastered version don't expect it to get a polygon boost

that said, from experience playing it through emulation it still looks really good. the texture work is very impressive even if low resolution. the lighting helps too.

as successful as this kickstarter has been, i really think the stretch goals were poorly thought out. if it was at all feasible to get this on other platforms or in other ways, they could have been made stretch goals too. translating into other languages is a pretty nice consideration, but imagine something as big as this game with the level of community involvement for bloodstained. if vita was at all possible in any way (i mean probably not, but who knows), or maybe physical ps4 games as an unlockable 'achievement'... just more 'fun' stuff that the community could do with regards to promoting the game and feeling like they're part of its creation.

Ryo looks better on the new imagen but at the end i hope he looks like cg model of Shenmue online or a upgraded shenmue passport model.

The og games still have really bad textures, they'd probably have to re-do a lot of them as I doubt Suzuki would be satisfied with this, not to mention Ryo controls incredibly clunky and janky compared to modern games. It would just put off a lot of people from the series, and I think the money going into remakes would be better off used to make Shenmue III a more full and complete experience anyway. So I'm not understanding why people want the remakes using Shenmue III funds.

US Shenmue was the last version I got for my collection. I have no intention of playing it and have no reason to but like it because it's insanity manifest. Like, why does that even exist? Who wanted this?

Updated my kicktraq comparison w/ Bloodstained and Ouya as best I could with only smartphone available. Still only based on the daily Kicktraq-data, not adjusted for 24h intervals.

Shoutout for everyone contributing with other diagrams and pictures in the thread and elsewhere. Nice to see! Soon I guess someone skilled with design will be able to do the official Shenmue III OT. Looking forward to see that, will probably be better than the KS mainpage.

Yeah, it is one of the oddest ideas for a game version but then again we have international versions of Final Fantasy games which replace the Japanese dub with English. Maybe they think hearing English is cool like we may think hearing Japanese is cool. Who knows?

Who is actually developing the game and do we have an in-house staff number? Or an estimate?

I'd love to be optimistic but this coming out of left field, and Suzuki not heading Shenmue for a decade and a half has me a bit wary.

FF International games at least have extra content like optional dungeons and bosses compared to the Japanese original, though I agree that replacing the Japanese voices is odd. But US Shenmue offers nothing new other than inexplicably making this game set in Japan unintelligible to most Japanese people.

I can remember reading that it was because Suzuki was so proud of the English localisation - itself a whole can of worms - like it made the game seem more like a major Hollywood production. But who knows if that's true.

Definitely a weird photoshop of this. (just hit enter in the address bar after the URL returns an error.)

I think the best option here is having japanase only audio. It would be cheaper too, and with Yakuza games worked well.

I kind of feel the same way, but only for the fact that a dub would be a lot of extra work and money that would be better spent elsewhere. I do have one exception though: I want the original English voice of Ryo to come back. Just as an extra bonus for the fans.

edit: Has this video been mentioned? http://shenmue.link/us-en/topics/#item25 there's some mildly interesting footage of the area the current screenshots and videos are from along with the interview.

Chills down my spine. That Ryo looked way better, you're absolutely right, but the devs sure know it already...don't they?
FAQ:

Will the graphics be improved?

The screenshots and images posted are still in the early stages of development, and will continue to be improved. Please help spread the word on all of your social networks so that we can deliver a Shenmue 3 that lives up to its legacy!

I would buy this just for the comedy value of the voice acting.

For many, myself included, the hammy voice acting was one of its charms; like it was sending up countless badly dubbed 70's/80's martial arts films. I'm in two minds about the voice acting, whether to keep it solely Japanese or include the American voice overs.

It's developed by Neilo, they are a studio that was funded by ex AM2 employees and there are former Shenmue team members on this project, some of them are listed on the KS page.

I 've only ever played the Japanese version so far but now I'm tempted to try the dubbed one just beacause of this. Sounds awesome :D

That's vital info for all.

@ Mr. RPG - Can you put this important info on the OP too, please?

Does anyone know here if I can change my billing information halfway through the Kickstarter?

I currently put in my parents' credit card information so I can start pledging right away. I just recently found employment (well, since last month) and I should be able get my own in a few weeks' time, but I decided to use their card just in case that doesn't pan out, though I'd really like to use mine if I do ever get mine before the kickstarter ends.

Yes. Absolutely. If they do an English dub, that's what they should strive for, if that's something that's possible to strive for, seems like the kind of thing you arrive at accidentally. It'd be great as an option, but I'd be fine with it being in Japanese/Chinese only.

I was just thinking, could it be possible for Ys Net to open its own fundraiser after the Kickstarter ends as well?

I remember Warhorse Studios' Kingdom Come Deliverance smashed its Kickstarter goal too and they went ahead and had their own fundraising initiative afterwards on their site where they've consistently received extra funding ever since.

They should definitely do this.

Also, A game like Star Citizen had the gimmick of selling ships, i think, as a way to rack up an immense budget, i wish Shenmue could get there, but the the style of the game just wouldn't allow it.

There is now way to produce a decent Shenmue with even 5 millions, so i hope they can get all the help they need, from any source i don't care.

Then again, Witcher 3 is a massive AAA game and cost like, what, 30 or 40 millions? So who knows, they could just move the production to Poland.

EDIT: Ok, 32 millions + another 30 of marketing (which Sony could cover, i assume).

Sell various sega/Sony themed capsule toys? :p

Takeshi Hirai is the lead programmer for the Shenmue series. In 2010 founded the independent game development studio, Neilo Inc, producing Orgarythm for the Playstation Vita and the Japanese arcade version of Left 4 Dead: Survivors.

This is a video

It has some minor off screen footage and information on the battle system.

They really need to update the kickstarter with this kind of stuff. I mean, they should post that history of Shenmue stuff on their main site showing off the beta and stuff on there too. Why is it hidden away on the main site!?

Also, it looks like their removing FREE battle. I suggest backers tell them they actually WANT to fight. It doesn't need to be less complicated.
