SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

Whatever happens it will probably get an extra 0.5m to 1m on the final day. I think another 1m at least is likely between now and then. So I think we'll end up no lower than 5-6m, hopefully higher.

They need more and better choices for backers contributions.

Agreed. They also need to actually start running a campaign. There should be daily updates and more management of the backer community. As it is, the comments section is filled with people screaming about how everyone needs to keep upping their pledges or stop asking for PS4 physical copies. That energy needs to be harnessed to actually reach out to new potential backers and spread the word about the campaign. They might be able to hit $5 million without much of a campaign, but I am certain that they won't hit anywhere close to $10 million unless they actually start to run a real campaign.

I agree. They need to do something to draw in new backers because as it stands the number of pledges per day is dropping off disturbingly. At the moment the campaign reminds me of the early days of the Elite: Dangerous campaign in that it feels cobbled together in a hurry with little content or engagement. That campaign pulled things together somewhat, but that was a 60 day campaign.

Clickbait negative bullshit but you can tell it's because they're confused about why there's a need for bothering with stretch goals if Sony has its back.

I dunno. Kind of comes across as "oh, there's a faux outrage about Sony helping out Shenmue 3 at the moment, quick let's think of the fucking dumbest clickbait title we can and make a video". I understand it fine. Don't get the confusion to be honest.

Oh yeah I'm not saying they're being genuine about the whole video, but I do think they're probably confused. They think kickstarter was being used to gauge interest before Sony makes it rain after it reached $2million despite what Yu's saying about the majority of funding and the existence of stretch goals.

Suggesting it's a scam is completely moronic though.

wasn't the first game at least a QTE-fest? was this changed for II?

pardon my slowness, but I thought QTEs were pretty much universally hated? yet this game is universally admired???

Shenmue popularized -- and named -- the QTE but a lot of people who've played Shenmue will agree with me that Shenmue does it in a way that doesn't interrupt the flow of the game and makes sense.

Except that apartment building with the platform jumps. Wasn't huge on those iirc :P

It did have it's fair share of QTEs, but it was a different breed than what's around today. They generally had a purpose instead of being used as a "press button for cool stuff" and were rarely instant gameovers/"Press X to not die" styled. It also had an actual combat system based on Virtua Fighter and was pretty dang fun.

People think it was all QTE, but it was not.

I did like how they included a David Cage game in Yu Arcade though: Here :P

Don't agree. They took samples from the Reddit Q&A and even on there Yu Suzuki made the situation clear, but they purposely ignored that. Those two idiots want to spiral bullshit on a game they don't give a damn about for the sake of Youtube money. Screwed them.

You're probably right tbh. It's too dumb to suggest it's a scam.

Hoping for more fighting tournaments for Shenmue 3. Really enjoyed finding the different fighters in Shenmue 2, especially Baihu and Chunyan Xu.

I think there will be. Back in the days, Martial Art Masters were notorious for challenging other Masters and highly reputable students, even things like this definitely still existed in certain location deep in China:

Considering Ryo still need to learn more Kung Fu (like Akira Yuki), do not be surprised he will be adopted by someone to learn real Baiji Quan Kung Fu to perform true Akiranomics:

Shenmue is basically the game that did QTE the best way, while also being the one who started it all.

The game would continue even if you missed the sequence.

I loved Xuixing in Shenmue II. I wonder if she will appear in third title.

She's great, but I feel that it wouldn't fit her character to drop everything she's got going in Hong Kong to go chasing after Ryo.

Plus I don't feel like Shenmue would be Shenmue if there wasn't a sense of nostalgia for the people and places Ryo's left behind.

I'd say this... It depends on the relationship of Xiusing and Ryo's father.

All the misinformation is just hurting us Shenmue fans more and more (less people backing) by people who don't give a damn. That's the part that infuriates me.

I'm doing my part, I've never played Shenmue and I got 2 of my friends who also haven't played to back at $60. I explained the legacy of the games to them and how important it is, they're pretty excited

There's much talk about the controversy hurting the KS but it pains me to see how poorly it's been managed so far.

It needs more frequent and interesting updates, clearer stretch goals and most importantly, higher-tier rewards are just begging to be taken.

How many people would up their pledge for a physical PS4 copy, even if it cost more than a regular retail game ?

The people in charge of this kickstarter failed to take advantage of the incredible momentum Sony provided with the E3 reveal. That's why it's slowed down so much IMO.

I would most certainly bump my pledge up to even $100 for a special physical PS4 copy.

Yeah, I still can't believe we don't have frequent updates, more and bigger tiers. Seriously, this project would be over 5M already if we had the latter only.

It's freaking disappointing, it's as if they were hoping that the E3 push was going to give all what they wanted. Very badly mismanaged. That has hurt more than the controversies, I'd say.

EDIT: Like seriously, if you're going to do a project of this magnitude, hire a person who has managed excellent KS campaigns like Bloodstained.

There's 26 000 backers stuck at the $29 tier, I would bet 2/3 of them want a PS4 copy and probably half would pay $60 for a physical one

13 000 x an additional 30 per backer = 390 000

and i bet half of those 13 000 would even pay $100 for a physical PS4 copy if you threw in an extra bonus or something special with it

6500 x additional 40 per backer = 260 000

they are leaving at least half a million on the table there, IMO. Not to mention the people who havent backed yet that would jump in.

And that's JUST for giving people a physical PS4 copy, there's TONS more they could do to increase interest

I hate to say it but the quicker the kickstarter becomes more appealing with more tiers of additional stuff across the range and more communication and updates with things to get excited about...the higher the chance it would bring in the curious people who are checking it out to see what the fuss is about. An emphasis on there being a big need to get as many backers as possible still would be beneficial to making the game even better and what it deserves to be - it'd make them feel like they'd be a valuable part of it as opposed to just chipping in. Perhaps mention that this is a special price and that there are plans to increase the cost somewhat at release.
