Spidey's origin story can be told in the opening credits for the movie. Then we go straight into Spidey donning the costume for the first time when a Portal opens up near the Stark Tower and aliens are pouring out. Spidey tries his best to get people to safety.

Or something.

Hard to believe it will not be an origin story when they cast a kid who looks like he could just be starting high school. Will wait and see. IMO it doesn't matter who stars and directs the Spiderman films, they have all had terrible scripts. Not a fan of the original trilogy or the two ASM films.

Are you unaware that Spider-Man operates as Spider-Man for years while still in high school?
I know the first Spider-Man film had him out of high school by the halfway point shortly after becoming Spider-Man, but that's not usual, nor accurate to the comics.

This will not be an origin story and doesn't need to be.

$$$?

Or maybe the dude had a slamdunk pitch

like Colin Treverro..pftthahahah

We can see how Mahvel is influencing Sony now.

Go for the cheapest choice!

Would it kill Marvel to choose a proven genre director, like once?

They can make a Spider-Man movie that shows the early days of Spider-Man, without showing the spider bit etc. It will be like reading some of the first issues of Amazing or Ultimate Spider-Man, buf not the very first issues.

Holland was riveting in The Impossible, so we're definitely not hurting for acting talent there.

It's a very good film that everyone should see. Especially for a taste of Tom's abilities.

He was also a Billy in the Billy Elliot stage production (yeah, they have a huge team of them.) So as a trained and seasoned dancer he probably has what it takes to do some of the acrobatics. At least the ones that the stunt people don't do for him.

He and Mockingbird should team up. Holy moley, that would be fun.

Mockingbird doesn't like to pay back loans

I dunno. After the concivenance of the symbiote just happening to land on the planet next to Parker and the retrofitting of Sandman being Uncle Bens killer in Spiderman 3, I'm happy to just watch a movie and accept the universe doesn't revolve around Peter and he was away doing other shit.

He would have been 15-16 at that battle, could have been fapping

Errm Sony hired Marc Webb?

Two names totally foreign to me, and that's extremely exciting. Kid had a good preformance in Locke, but for obvious reasons I can't read much from that.

Holy shit, this is the guy who directed the movie where the clown suit takes over the dad?

LOL, I have to admit, it is a very weird director choice.

Sure why not. Anything to take the movie franchise to a new direction from the awful "Amazing" ones.

On a semi-related note I kind of hope they go with an unknown for Captain Marvel despite the number of names mentioned that would fit the role.

yeah they really fucked getting the cheap unproven Russo brothers on Cap 2.

but really, maybe Watts did in fact blow them away.

Good stuff. Dude looks like he'd fit immensely. Has that nerdy look but obviously has the athletic ability to pull the Spidey stuff off. Not too shabby. Looks the role far better than Butterfield. Haven't seen anything of his movies though.

Overall I'm very ex-

Too bad Proactive doesn't bite.

-oly shit.

Kind of wish they went younger tbh

Me too, we know it can work, just look at characters like Hit Girl. But they had to find a middle ground due to pushback of going too young.

They could still do a kid Nova film at some point. It's only a matter of time before Marvel does their own Sharkboy & Lava Girl kind of film to get the younger audience.

Not being Miles, could care less who would they cast.

That said ... WTF is that director choice ? Was he bough in The Last day of a summer sale because Sony had some money from selling cards???

Why would they make an origin movie? Everybody knows Spider-Man, heck his origin story could be told in like under 5 minutes throughout the movie.

Marvel already has the younger audience. Going younger would be an awful choice.

Actually quite refreshing to see a shot of a young actor who actually has acne!
Don't get used to it, Marvel will make sure he's depimpled in no time.

I was still hoping for Dylan O'Brien but I'm okay with Tom Holland, I think he's a good choice, he definitely looks the part.

Wait you know he can already be Spider-Man and still be in High School right?

There was a lot of worry getting a young actor because of child labor laws.

Spider-Preteen is the last thing people need.

This dude is 19, gonna be 21 by the time the first Spidey film rolls out. I was hoping we would get 15 year old Peter like in Ultimate, and I'd rather them actually have a 15 year old play him

That said, Tom is a great actor and this still seems like a solid choice to me.
