Yes, the old Midway game.

Deadline Hollywood said:
Dwayne Johnson is re-teaming with New Line and producer Beau Flynn for Rampage, a live action feature that has been set for a 2016 summer production start.
The film is based on the classic 80’s Midway Arcade Game that has since had numerous incarnations on different gaming platforms.
They are keeping the plot under wraps, but the game involves three giant monsters–a gorilla, a lizard and a wolf–that wreak havoc on major cities and landmarks across North America.

Full story.

Smash a building on me if old.

So the movie isn't just Dwayne Johnson in one of those old-timey Godzilla mini-city film sets smashing it up, while green-screened humans down below try to stop him?

Away with this.

I wonder if we'll get a new game to go along with it. Total Destruction wasn't amazing or anything but it had its moments. If nothing else, it was worth it for the port of Rampage World Tour.

I... wha??... But... Will it be a comedy? The game was supposed to be funny... If they make it all serious disaster movie, it won't be Rampage.

Sounds like a fun idea, hope this works out better than John Woo's Spyhunter starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Rampage monsters are canonically not as big as traditional Kaijus; will Hollywood blow them up just to "compete" with the big boys? I wouldn't put it past them. But it wouldn't be Rampage if they did.

The first three I get, but Furious 7? I haven't seen it, but do they fight a giant monster in that film?!

No, but it has The Rock. That was more what I was saying. San Andreas capitalized off of his role in that, and this would follow suit.

The Rock is a great dude, though, so it's well-deserved.

aw man, this is making me laugh so hard for some reason

sounds amazing

Geezus...There are so many good IP to make a movie but they pick Rampage?
I am going to assume Johnson is the wolf since I believe the wolf was the only humanoid in the game with the ability to turn into a giant wolf.

I bet he's gonna either play Ralph or George, let's say George and after an accident turns the 3 innocent by standers into monsters, George is the only one who retains some sort of human will, while lizzie and Ralph go berzerker, George will have to harness his kaiju form to stop them, while also making a conection with Lizzie (eventually seemingly curing her) while having a climatic fight with Ralph, who went back to whatever made them monsters to recieve a power up and attempts to destroy humanity. In the end, Lizzie gains the ability to control her kaiju form like George and they unite to destroy Ralph and hook up in their human forms.

Mark my words, the plot will be pretty much this because hollywood is predictable like that.

I don't get this kind of moves, why not doing a simple movie of monsters?
Will they really gain anything good from linking the movie to a veeeery old game that's not even that well known?

I was watching Predators the other day, and I thought how much I'd like them to take another shot at that series, and how much I'd like Johnson in the lead role. He's got the physique of the big 1980s film stars, but he has about 10 times the charisma and seems to be just about the nicest guy in the world!
