He hasn't been in high school for a long time. He's a scientist.

He's only been a scientist for Slott's run, so... since 2007. He's been a teacher and photographer too, but you didn't bring that up. Once again, sliding scale.

This will be a modern adaptation of Spider-Man's early years. Like every adaptation is. Or do you want them to have Mary Jane gone and Gwen dead too?

Seems like Marvel is moving away from big name directors now?

Cheaper, willing to agree to lengthy contracts, and less prone to walking away when Marvel hands down a list of changes.

"The hardcore Spider-Man fan" is a sliding scale and you know that. Kind of like the "hardcore Richard Rider fans" who didn't read New Warriors or Larsen's run on the solo book.

Enthusiasts forget that the market moves on eventually and you are not always the target audience.

You get bothered by the most inoffensive posts sometimes..

Also, why are people bitching about the directing choice? You've seen nothing from him, and most director's start out with an indie(hell, Favreau started out with Swingers), or something small(or terrible, like the the Russo Brothers).

Huh? What are you talking about? Welcome to Collinwood wasn't bad and after that they directed a few of the best episodes of the GOAT comedy show Arrested Development and won an Emmy for their directing work. You, Me and Dupree (which I guess you're referring to) came way after they had already proven to be pretty great directors.

They shoot like it's a TV show, everything is flat, just check out Winter Soldier with Cap Vs. the Jet. They have no clue how to shoot that scene.

Definitely true, but I was talking about how he claimed that The Russo Brothers started off making shit movies and that Marvel somehow 'discovered' them, while that's far from the truth.

That's bothered? Which part? How can I be bothered when I'm playing Batman Arkham Knight for the second time? I'm jamming, I'm simply like to correct people while I'm working.

I can't answer that question without going back and forth on this and that. Okay, you're not bothered.

I really enjoy successful scientist Dr Parker. If only he was still married to Mary Jane. At least Renew your Vows exists for the time being.

Someday I'd like a movie to focus completely on the full adult Peter in the more modern era but it makes sense for him to be introduced to the MCU as a kid.

The Impossible is on Netflix, think I’ll watch it later this week.

Here are some more "Parker-like" pictures of Tom Holland from his instagram:

THIS SHOULD BE IN THE OP.

At 1st i was like 'wtf? no way." But after seeing these pics - he seems like a really good choice

Not familiar with the actor, but I'm happy Spidey's getting another shot after the last abomination. Also:

BRING BACK JK SIMMONS, MY GOD IT WOULD BE SO GREAT

And Mysterio plz

I don't know either of these but I can certainly picture Holland in the role. I'll have to check out Watts work. i'm glad marvel are taking risks anyway.

Wow, was totally not expecting them to do somersaults, backflips, pirouettes, sixsteps, and some modern/lyrical dance. Legit impressed. Clean forms, too.

You might also recognize one of the other performers. He now plays Tommen on Game of Thrones (Season 4 and 5)

Yes, Tommen can dance.

Sure.

That's coming from someone who preferred Spider-Man to stay as Otto, though. Best Marvel character in a long time.. maybe my favorite ever. I suppose Superior really got me back into the book, and kind of shook the cobwebs off of Peter Parker for me.

I kind of think the world has been exposed to enough of teenage Spider-Man at this point, maybe those early years are just so iconic that it doesn't get old for most people.

I hope they don't base it on Ultimate Spider-Man. Personal preference.

Teacher Parker is my favourite.

I thought it was a good fit for him. I've liked him as a high school student, college student, photographer, teacher, scientist, and webmaster. I've enjoyed Peter in various facets, with Gwen, MJ, Felicia, Betty and without them. I've liked the original costume and the symbiote. I'm a big fan of many of the random costumes Spidey has worn (Ben's costume is my favorite). I've enjoyed the adventures of others with the name: Miles, Gwen, Miguel, Kaine, Otto, Ben, Mayday, and more.

I love Spider-Man and the idea has been around for long enough that it isn't just one thing. Embracing everything is awesome and adaptations have years of stuff to pull from to make their own specific Spider-Man.

I can't answer that question without going back and forth on this and that. Okay, you're not bothered.

No problem, Psych. S'all good. (I notice you bolded "second time". I reviewed Arkham Knight, so I had an early debug copy. Now I have a retail copy, but the saves don't transfer, so I have to start at the beginning.)

Sure.

I dig that. I do wish Peter would take up some of Otto inventions. He went too far with the Spider-Cams, but the idea is solid.

Alternatively, I wish they'd use Secret Wars to deposit an alt reality Superior Spider-Man for an ongoing.

Tbh, I like the casting choice, kid can act and is more proven than the director. Who the fuck is Jon Watts? He has less credentials than Marc Fuckin' Webb and barely has anything to show on his resume. Also this kid is pretty short, I myself stopped growing in my early 20s, so it looks like this is where this kid tops off. Tobeh and Drew had the perfect build and look for Spidey, I think this kid does too but I feel like they'll give him the Downey heels.

Back to the director, this is who Marvel trust with its biggest property? I'm guessing either no one wanted to touch this or Marvel must've seen some incredible shit from him that we haven't. At least those fuckbois Mike Tolmach and Avi Arad can't put their grimey ass hands on this project. I'm not all in on Feige but I'd rather him than those two fucks. Hopefully they get some good writers.

so they're going to be rebooting spiderman again? dont people get tired of this shit lmao

any movie where the protagonist is 100% cgi during action scenes is going to suck - this is a universal film law. stop making these garbage movies

so they're going to be rebooting spiderman again? dont people get tired of this shit lmao

I never get why it's ok for Batman and Superman to be rebooted over and over again but not any other superhero property.

I do agree that 3 Spider-Men within 15 years is crazy, but people act like the Spider-Man IP is the only one guilty of this.

James Bond set the precedent. With the demands of modern payrates impacting the rescasting further. We can expect someone to stay 2 or 3 films. Beyond that is great fortune. So far marvel has a good record of keeping their actors but that isn't going to keep going for very long. You could even interpret the huge shakeups to the characters in the marvel comics as setting up the pending recastings.

Just as a reminder; Paul Rudd and RDJ were the only two "big names" marvel ever hired for lead roles. Chris Evans' career was in slums, Chris Hemsworth was a soap actor, Tom Hiddleston could go unnoticed in Los Angeles, and Chris pratt was that fat guy from parks and rec. And please don't look up the resume of the Russo bros, if you think they were big before winter soldier.

Ed Norton, Jeremy Renner and Scarjo say hi.

All of you are leaving out Mark Ruffalo and Don Cheadle, too.

And Scarlett Johansson wasn't actually a star. Not a single movie she was in before Iron Man 2 made 100 million. Also, she was never the best part of the few good/great movies she was in prior to Marvel movies. She's a hot girl, so she was recognizable, but she wasn't a star.

I forgot Don, but Ruffalo I feel could still walk down the street and not be noticed by too many people.
No way. He was in too many good/great movies prior to Marvel to not be considered a star. Plus, as far as straight-up acting is concerned, he is in the top-tier among the Marvel Universe actors.

To all the people complaining about another British superhero, I have one thing to say.

Seems like a pretty good choice to me. Don't know much about the director though.

I don't know either actor or director, but I trust Marvel and their eye for talent.

Here's hoping Jon Watts turns into another Russo Brothers.
