Batman: Arkham Knight On PC Is Not Very Good [UP: WB suspends future sales until fix]

Who is responsible for this mess of a port?

This is a terrible post.
People here paid for a product and the quality of said product is not as advertised. They, as consumers, are well within their right to a refund and the companies involved should be shamed.

I think most people here agree that you should get a refund and nobody would blame you for calling names in twitter.

  • Create a negative review on Steam BEFORE you get a refund.
  • Get a refund.
  • Report the product on Steam (flag icon next to the Share and Embed buttons on the page). Report it as "Broken"
  • If you bought from a non-Steam source (such as GMG), ask for a refund anyway. It might feel like you're wasting your time, but GMG isn't ever going to create refunds unless there's demand. And trust me, with enough customer support tickets, GMG will put pressure on Warner Bros.
  • Report Warner Brothers to the Better Business Bureau.
  • Use social media for public shaming of Warner Brothers. Don't harass or threaten them, simply state your disappointment.

Fixed for things reasonable people might actually do.

Isn't Arkham Knight getting a SteamOS release? Can you imagine how bad that will end up being?

The SteamOS version doesn't have a release date yet, other than 'this fall'. So by that time a lot of the issues may well have been fixed. Any issues with DX11 (or DX10) won't affect the Linux version. I'm still holding out hope that Feral will do a decent job, they claim they won't release until they are happy with it (whatever that means exactly). At least it sounds like they are being given a lot more time than Iron Galaxy was, I hope it shows.

What annoys me more is people are happily rebuying the game on ps4 so they are getting peoples money twice lol

This is a flawed way of thinking. We shouldn't be okay with the game being jank on the day after release. We shouldn't "relax" because the game will be ready to go a few weeks later instead of on release day.

Take a good look at this guy below and you tell me if it's okay. There's a difference between being upset and then being nonsensical. He actually said this

"You are releasing broken fucking products to the public and NO ONE is doing anything about it or even hammering these people to find out who, what, when, and where caused this."

NO ONE is doing anything about it other than say they are working on the issues. It's been one day. If this had gone into the weekend, fine. You can join Obliterator on his journey to burn WB to the ground. All im saying is getting worked up to this extreme is not going to make them go any quicker. They already know the situation. If you think they are just sitting back and taking their sweet time, well I don't know what else to tell you.

Exactly. This post, right here, is an example of why we as gamers will continue down this rode. This attitude. Look at it well and remember it. Its ok if your product launches out of the box fucked. Relax in a couple weeks everything will be ok

The fact that they haven't even come out and said they are currently working on a patch and promised to fix the game is the most frustrating thing here.

In general yes, this industry treats its consumers like second class citizens. How many fluff pieces about how great AK is have been or will be written? How fast were "journalists" rushing out to put up every new bit of info they could about this game.

I'm a consumer, not a citizen of videogameland. If they do bad ports in my platform of choice, I would just not buy the game because I don't pre order in anycase

What annoys me more is people are happily rebuying the game on ps4 so they are getting peoples money twice lol

That is not how a refund works. Most people double dipping in PS4 are refunding the game on PC, I bet.

The fact that they haven't even come out and said they are currently working on a patch and promised to fix the game is the most frustrating thing here.

I agree. Puboic acknowledgement of a problem and a planned course of action would go a long way in changing the tone of the discussion. The silence from these companies is only fueling the fire.

They already know the situation. If you think they are just sitting back and taking their sweet time, well I don't know what else to tell you.

If they didn't know about the problems well before release then that is just pathetic. What did they just ship it off to Iron Galaxy then never ever check on the quality of it? No milestones? No quality assurance at all from the publisher before the release? There is no way they didn't know.

no no, they did

remember they said you just have to use recommended settings!

So there's enough going on that they know the problem but aren't able to solve it right away. The smart thing to do would be to say very explicitly that they're working on the problem.

I feel bad that my 11 hours with the game have been absolutely flawless so far, with all Nvidia settings turned on. I did leave it locked at 30. Pretty sure I've got rain textures on some of my stuff.

I did not know another dev was working on it; that is actually good to know. Thanks for the info!

Yep this is the most ridiculous thing so far. It seems no body has owned up to this mess yet. They could probably stop a lot of people from requesting refunds if they would just come out, sincerely apologize, explain what went wrong, and how the plan for fixing it. Instead they are silent.

The naivete in this post is astounding.

You know what I'm done defending consumers over this. You guys deserve the port you are getting when stuff like this is how people view the industry. You guys 100% deserve exactly what they shipped you

Eh, I 'm going to buy this for PS4 in a sale. Seems like a good game.

When we get a poor port with DRM, it just makes me think that the publisher was more interested in keeping the game from getting pirated than having it work well.

They'd rather prevent lost sales instead of earning them with a well functioning game.

So when you say it's naive, are you saying that people should expect the things they buy to be broken, and therefore they don't have the right to be upset? What is happening in this post.

I'll reiterate the fortunate turn of events that I got the game from buying an NVidia card that I wanted for other games, and I would have for sure bought the game outright.

Game runs "ok" 80% of the time, but yeah, batmobile stuff (driving around) is a stutter mess, while tank mode runs ok.

Bumped it back to 30 fps and turned off the smoke, and it runs a little bit more "stable"

Was upset that the game from buying the card didn't include Harley Quinn, but then again, I can watch that entire thing on youtube in 10 minutes.

Glad for you all, that Steam refunds came around before this mess. Please use it.

I think it's super messed up that people paid good money for this game, invested in the hardware and end up getting the stuttering mess that has been shown in some of these youtube video's. That is simply not okay, and I believe you have a right to complain and ask for a refund...

But I gotta be honest, the way some people react to this... nearly declaring war and asking for "damages"? Makes it kinda hard to be on the "duped gamers" side in this. Just saying.

I was going to get the PS4 version but, even though I know that one seems to be fine, this whole mess kinda soured me on the game. So that's at least one sale down untill this get fixed, which I hope (for everyone involved) is sooner rather than later. :)

You know, I would have gotten mad at a post like this once upon a time. Now that we have steam refunds though, I can just ignore it for the uttery worthless tripe that it is, get a refund, and go on with my life not having to be held hostage by game publishers while waiting on s product I already purchased to become worth a fuck.

So when you say it's naive, are you saying that people should expect the things they buy to be broken, and therefore they don't have the right to be upset? What is happening in this post.

People should buy a product, on Day 1, and expect it to work out the box. Defending WB with things like "they're working on it" entirely misses the point.

But who am I kidding? Gamers eat this shit up. They will get fucked and defend on their honor these companies, journalists won't ask questions, and we will get broken products. Because "game development is hard."

I have never seen a group of consumers more willing to throw away what is good for them as gamers. If anyone would know from experience it would be myself

Oh shit, I must have completely misread that post. Sorry, I'm so tired right now lol. I completely agree with the first paragraph. This is even worse than MKX because we don't have Boon (who seems to be a genuinely nice dude) to talk to us.

So basically you're telling us it's fine to accept broken games from the get go?

You can't tell anyone to R E L A X to consumers who paid a broken product. AAA games like Arkham Knight should be working on PC day one.

I won't be raging against Warner Bros but I will not be condensing to others who are angry because they bought a game which suppose to work great but it is broken.

hahaha we've come full circle boys. It's all your fault, eat up the bad ports because of all the bad things you say on the internet.

HI larious

Is anyone actually reading the post that Obliterator is replying to?

I also disagree with the post that Obliterator replied (I also think Warner knew about the port and derseve to be called out of it) but his tone has been not helphulf at all. People are getting confused in being outraged to know that people are gettin outraged that some people are complaining that they are outraged for the PC port enough,

Btw I'm mad as hell over this but please, no one be offended on a personal level. I'm sure you're all great people but what I'm saying is I'm defending YOU. Your rights as a consumer and it blows me away how little gamers seemingly care about it. And then we wonder why there are endless season passes, over priced DLC, and broken games.

Again if my tone was too aggressive and I hurt you I apologize

Im being real. My name is Obliterator for a reason

I'm getting really close to just cracking after I get off work and going to Target to buy the game on PS4. I'm worried it'll never be fixed, and I didn't really buy the game anyway since I got it with my 970. Sigh. Really sad about this. :(

Do you really think it's been ONE DAY since they knew about these issues? You think that they shipped the product thinking "yep, that works perfectly well"? I don't think that is possible, I would imagine they knew fine well the problems that they were having, but didn't want to delay again so shoved it out the door, let us pay for it whilst they are working on a patch, as if it's some kind of early access game.
I'm confident it will be fixed sooner rather than later but let's not pretend they have been surprised by what has happened.

Obliterator has good intentions even though he is angry. He's just mad at WB like everyone should be.

The thing is, Arkham Knight is a game we expect to run amazing. It's a surprise that on day one, the PC version is horrendous.

There is no doubt they knew what was happening. They knowingly false marketed the product for over a year, and knowingly released it broken, missing assets, and were fine charging $100 for the game and season pass.

But its ok, patches are coming.

I think you have legit reasons to be mad about all this. I don't agree with your tone and all that about the industry going to shit, but I just want to make clear that this was a shitty thing that Warner pulled off and you have all the rights to get a refund and call out Warner here or in social media;.

I, personally, just wanted to point that not everybody can be as mad as you are for this stuff as many of us didn't pre order and many bought it in a different platform. But I also think you have all the rights to be mad about it and this port should be mocked and badmouthed as hell.

I was thinking about buying the PS4 version too, but the solution is not to buy more product from the same publisher. I would suggest buying a used copy if you must.

Ok then why hasn't Nvidia spoken out? Made a statement?

They released trailers, themselves, of a 60fps version of the game with all of the missing effects and slapt "Nvidia" all over it. There needs to he some damn accountability over this and journalists should be diving in figuring out what happened.

Gaming sites should do more than advertise games for publishers. We need these sites to actually do some investigative journalism and get to the bottom of what happened.
Someone needs to be held accountable for this disaster, otherwise these fraudulent business decisions will keep happening...

Valve should help resolve these types of problems by doing more than offering refunds.

We need a "Better Business Bureau" type complaint system for digital goods sold in their storefront.
A clear response of wrong doing from the developers and a clear plan of action to resolve such issues

The history in favor of such a system:
- Assassin's Creed Unity Launch
- SimCity Launch
- Batman Arkham Knight Launch
(basically any gaming product that clearly failed to perform properly for the overwhelming majority of customers)

I'm actually sorry for Iron Galaxy studios... I work on IT Consulting, and sometimes there is just so much you can do with what your given, I'm sure the decision to release the game as is was not Iron Galaxy's doing.

I kinda feel the situation went like this:

*Meeting at WB HQ*

IG Team Leader: So, we have been optimizing some things here and there but we are only 12 people and its kinda taking us a long time.
WB/RockSteady: Yeah yeah, don't worry, you just go ahead and add pretty smoke and stuff.
IG Team Leader: But... the framerate is not very stable right now and that wont help at all, we would like some time to optimize this, or even some help to get it done in time.
WB/RockSteady: Nah, we're busy with the preorder DLC chart, we still have to butcher a couple more parts of the game and five or six more costumes.
IG Team Leader: Ermmm, well, so extra time then?
WB/RockSteady: Nah, well just slam what you have into a couple DVD's, the rest will be downloaded, and make sure you absolutely PRIORITIZE the inclusion of that denuvo thing thats so safe.
IG Team Leader: That will actually make the game run worse...
WB/RockSteady: We don't care, we already made profit with preorders and season passes!
IG Team Leader: geez.. ok, got it then...

*IG Team Leader goes back to IG office*

IG Team Leader: Guys, we gotta wrap this up.
IG Devs: Boss, this ain't anywhere near done...
IG Team Leader: Our client doesn't care, no extra time, no extra help.Stop what you are doing and implement that denuvo shit.
IG Devs: *Sigh*, people are gonna hate us because of this and it ain't even our fault...

*Dramatic music, camera starts flying away, exits window, flys away from building while focusing on dev team through window.... looks at sunset*

CREDITS ROLL

So yeah, this is kind of a humorous approach, I just feel it hits home and its not the first time I have not been able to do my best because of circumstances. I'm not sure how the real situation went and this could very well be IG's fault for doing a shitty job and all, just want to think that this game just caught up on corporate BS instead of on developer incompetence.

I'm really feeling sorry for those guys right now :(.... Not for WB or RockSteady though.

I like to think that this is the real version of all of this mess

Im aggressive because its time someone speaks out for us. Make no mistake journalist and people from the industry are reading this very thread. I'm not telling people to harass individuals. To stalk them on the Internet and post LinkIn stuff. I'm sure most of the people at IG and WB are solid people. But what they are doing is not ok.

Make your voices heard though. There needs to be accountability. The journalists will not do it for you.

I was thinking about buying the PS4 version too, but the solution is not to buy more product from the same publisher. I would suggest buying a used copy if you must.

I got the PS4 version already and having a blast. I got two AK for two of my gaming PCs( one is a Sager laptop that has dual 980M GTX SLI and the other has 980GTX SLI) and I was giddy to see how beautiful and fast this would play. Sadly, I expected too much.

NV didn't develop the game, they just provided their tech and used it in marketing. What statement do you expect them to make? That the game's developer doesn't know how to code?

Yes. Publicly distance themselves from the product. The idea that things like this are shocking proves how jacked up this industry is. Everyone is quiet, and no one is willing to make ripples.

Flat out state, the build in our trailers was entirely captured by WB and we were not involved in the capture in any way.

Why is it a foreign idea that this industry OWES YOU THE TRUTH.

I like to think that this is the real version of all of this mess
Dealing with IT on a daily basis for 5 years in a corporation. This is precisely how it is and the problem is no clear communication and balls to tell your manager and bosses that the project will have a negative outcome with the constraints. Happens all the time.

Uh, from the other thread. It does in fact sound sped up.

"Not sure if this is true, but if so,..

http://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace...mended/cshc58i

The NVIDIA videos are actually sped up and not truly running at 60fps? Man, this just goes deeper and deeper."

Doesn't a sped up video also cause, you know, the video to be sped up and not just the audio? Camera and animations would have to move at twice the speed. Sounds like tales from the ass atm.
