Warner Brothers suspends [new] purchases for PC version of Batman Arkham Knight

I've never had someone ask me for a picture of my credit card before. Doesn't seem secure.

How in any way is it less secure than punching your info in? You're literally putting in everything off of the card anyway. By your logic you should never buy anything with a credit card online.

I wonder if this will just lead to WB no longer putting their games on PC.
this was a mistake on their part, people showed on droves the backing for the game but in the end they were the ones that disappointed us, moving away from the PC market would be a huge mistake since there are millions to be made there

Horrible that they let it ship in such a state, but that's a bold move on their part, and I give them credit for it. Admitting guilt is not always the easiest thing.

That takes balls. But it's the only right thing to do at this point. Allowing to sell your broken product to others is just wrong. And now hopefully they'll fix the port for the current owners, give them a sizeable compensation (e.g. heavy discount on the season pass, or maybe even free) and let bygones be bygones. It's a shame it has come to this, because in my recollection the Arkham games have had good to great PC ports, other WB games as well (Shadow of Mordor for instance).

I had an issue with GMG in the past when using my card. As others said, my bank blocked it because they're based in London and I had to jump through hoops to get it resolved. I only use Paypal for international purchases now.

this is such a hostile anti-consumer stance.

people should be able to get a refund for any reason but especially when the thing that bought is fucking broken. This wouldn't fly in another other situation.

Not really a comparable situation.

Gmg buys the keys in bulk from Warner directly, while valve is actually distributing the game directly to your computer.

Gmg can't just revoke your access to the keys once you have it. To key sellers like gmg or Amazon, a key is a key is a key, and once it is created it's considered a full copy of the game, and once you activate it, it's active and there's nothing gmg can do on their end to unactivate it.
The only recourse gmg can do to do widesweaping refunds like this is to appeal directly to Warner to revoke the keys in question, which they may be unwilling to do, or were before they did the first patch or before this newest development, hence the message.

It's way less secure.

Like

They could get sued it's so unsecure.

Putting a Credit Card into a menu on a website is backed by security, encryption, a log in, and a bunch of other stuff. Often, the site itself never even sees the data, it's just passed directly to the company that processes the payments, encrypted. Unless the company is shoddy and sends it plain text or something, but there's still a small layer of protection there because you need to log into the site.

You cannot blame IG in all this
It's a horrible port but it's whoever green lighted it. There could be many reasons for this port to be awful, but it's up to the higher ups to bite the bullet. Who ever was doing the QA for this port regardless of what his bosses said is going to bite the bullet for this. If you are testing this game and releasing it on the PC Market you are also putting your name next to it. In corporate structure you are the guy who is pinned with the blame even though it's like you are not actually making the decision.
IG is definitely should not get the majority of the blame. I don't think they would be in control of the quality control someone above must approve this and in such a case no doubt someone from Rocksteady/WB was in charge of that.

I agree. Time and time again we hear how devs want more time, not less. Who makes the money on the retail sales? The publisher. Then again, WB is pulling all PC sales until further notice. If they did know it was hot garbage, they thought no one would notice? In 2015? With Reddit, Gaf and every other instant social media outlet? If I had to put money on it, I would say someone at Rocksteady (under pressure as always) greenlighted it out the door at Iron Galaxy and "forgot" to tell their overlords (Warner) that it might not be in the best shape. Who know, though. I hope we all find out soon.

I called this yesterday, i knew the huge backlash could only end in suspended sales. And to the people worrying about publishers pulling games from Steam and or not making pc games anymore, then fuck them. They have long treated pc gamers like step children in the video gaming sphere.

What is wrong with pc version despite 30 FPS and lack of rain effect ?

I haven't seen the rest that is wrong yet, i got it on PS4.

This is incredible. Steam was putting this game front and centre on launch day, and advertising the hell of it. Now they've had to refund a ton of people and stop selling the game.

Somebody fucked up real bad on this one. I don't know if it was WB, Rocksteady or Iron Galaxy, but this is some serious shit.

Stuttering, frequent crashes, textures not working making the game look like a PS2 era title, memory leaks, frame rate dropping to single digits in Batmobile even on very powerful setups, the list is pretty crazy.

It didn't actually run for some people, continually crashing before the game started, and FPS was super inconsistent to unplayable levels of frame dropping.

So steam is now saying that the game will be available on PC in "Fall 2015"... Holy shit WB what the fuck kind of shit did you pump out to cause a recall for a couple of months?

It won't be a few months. The fall 2015 refers to the Linux and Mac versions, which were already launching later than the Windows version.

Usually happens when some information they have on you seems off e.g. your give them a US address CC but your IP is from Asia. Quite a few companies have systems in place which automatically flag transactions like this and the company then asks the user for further details.

Like I said, this is extremely common in the web hosting industry where user fraud is very common. You'll find quite a few companies asking for CC picture or government ID pictures. I've also submitted these things to various companies (which I believed were legit).

Probably just a placeholder of some sort, or maybe it defaulted to the original target date for the Linux version.

2.5 million sales for Arkham City
1.1 million sales for Mordor

Yea I think they'll keep putting games on PC.

The refund function wasn't around during Arkham City's launch. I feel like a lot would've been given then, too, considering the shit state in which DX11 launched (and continues to be in). The only saving grace there was the ability to run the game in DX9 and avoid the problems that way.

Short version: massively inconcistent framerate, missing AO, missing numerous shaders, any controls to turn on and off various effects, lacking or absent Bokeh DOF, possible memory leaks, obscene VRAM usage, tons of hitching due to streaming and page swaps, crashing, poor performance on AMD videocards, and... I think that's it?

edit: and textures not loading (thanks Glitchesarecool) :D

I think this is the right move to do but it rings a bell that they release a game in this state. This is agaisnt buiding a "good" name for WB as a publisher.

I hope big publishers stop releasing broken games.

Oh, and don't forget the textures not loading in.

Forgot shitty texture pop-in.

Major props to WB.

Most publishers just tell PC gamers something like: "Just deal with it. It's not that bad. We'll fix what we can when we can." But now that WB has stepped up, I hope this will force other publishers to stop treating PC consumers like redheaded stepchildren.

I agree. Can't wait to see the effect.

Here's effect #1. They stop selling the game.

We'll probably see more delayed PC releases. This is already pretty normal.

I don't suspect it'll make companies treat the PC version equally to consoles. Nah. That costs money.

Over the Summer Sale alone just the Batman games. MKX, and Shadow of Mordor generated over 3 million dollars. And that's just games that are old, or heavily discounted, over the course of 2 weeks.

WB will keep releasing PC games, there is bank to be made there. They need to get their shit together though

That just it, though. Did WB really know how bad it was? I can see them pulling shit like that 20 years ago when you had to hand write a letter to your friends to tell them something sucked but in 2015 news travels fast. How anyone in their PR dept would think releasing a broken product wouldn't cause a shit storm is beyond me. PC games often get released after console games. Why would they not just say, "Sorry! Game isn't ready folks! Give us a couple months to make sure you get a good experience!" all the while raking in cash from the PS4 and One.

Somewhere, there is one guy who was supposed to send an email that is hiding under his desk with a Vodka bottle in his hand going, "Fuck me".

I saw Dying Light at the top of the Steam charts a lot, as well, and that's a WB title.

Most If not any games have these problems.

Has any company done this? Can't remember Battlefield, Watch Dogs, Unity or any game that comes to mind where the company stops people buying the game, mostly its a PR excuse and false promises to fix it soon.
