Warner Brothers suspends [new] purchases for PC version of Batman Arkham Knight

Like with GMG, you guys need to kick up dust to make sure they hear you.
Gmg has no real control over what valve and Warner choses to do about this. They just buy and sell the keys themselves. They don't actually have any control over activation and revocation of the keys in order to issue refunds.

This is why buying from key sellers is a double edged sword in cases like this, and it would be wise to remember next time you see a game that's 30%+ off on gmg vs steam.

I would say not. We've never seen this from a publisher before, so I can only assume that there were a massive amount of refund requests submitted and someone at valve reached out to WB to get this worked out.

Didn't that Dayz knock off get pulled out in the same fashion only to reappear months later under a new name?

I think this backlash combined with Steam refunds being proven in the wild will make ALL publishers take note. Either they'll get their shit together and stop treating PC gamers like redheaded stepchildren when it comes to their "AAA" console ports, or they won't bother with PC ports at all. The latter is very unlikely considering the revenue tail for PC games is near infinite compared to console games that have an established used games market.

Ideally this may snowball into a good thing.

Then I sure hope they have something up their sleeve for those who already own it.

There is a third option. Delay the PC release. Let the focus be on consoles, while still taking advantage of the tail.

$30 for PS4/XBONE version as compensation.

DO IT WB.

I know you're joking but this is the stupidest shit ive read

Xfiles had it right years ago: "what they can't cover, they apologize for. Apology has become policy"

Let's hope it turns out alright.

It's going to be real interesting to hear exactly what the fuck happened with this game. I have a feeling it might take a while.

To think there were people saying we were carrying on about this situation and it wasn't a huge deal, or it would be fixed by the end of the week. Righto.

Lets just not pretended that WB would have done that if were not for steam refunds policy

If refund policy on steam hadnt changed WB would just keep the bullshit about the "few users" need to wait for a patch and the money would keep on flowing

I'd be willing to be this is more of a failing on the QA process than the developer in question. Iron Galaxy usually does decent work.

So it's a QA problem if the game misses stuff like Ambient Occlusion?

It takes just one guy playing the game for five minutes to find problems. This isn't about QA, this is about very bad game code.

They just added the refund functionality 3 weeks ago, after years of demand.

Well I'll be damned, I might finally start PC gaming once more. I have some fast rigs for video work, that should be up to the challenge!

My praise to WB for skimping on the PC port!

(The buck stops with the publisher, they either mismanaged the deliverable or provided a paltry budget for the devs to get the job done)

This is a refreshing change, but it also reminds me how pathetic it is that all PC games are not held to the same standard, especially big titles like this that typically come with a hefty price tag.

Good on them, I guess? I really want to play this, but I don't want to settle for 30fps. But the ps4 version isn't looking half bad. Will wait to see how this pans out on pc. If it looks hopeless, ps4 it is

Everyone's talking about how steam refunds are great (and it's true- they,re the only reason WB is doing this)

I also see posts saying that '' maybe now other developers won,t release shitty PC ports''.

Couldn't they just not release their game on steam instead? No refunds problems in that case..

it would raise so many red flags if they go out of their way to avoid steam now.

refunds mean publisher can't get away with this crap anymore without a real reaction which is the way it should be.

Bullshit. Developer intentionally locking it to 30FPS, no AO, AF, AA, low res textures, then changing the requirements one day before the release and no PC review copies. It was a scam and Steam refunds and internet backlash along with mainstream media showed the right place to these clowns.

Yup, we still fucking pay $60, same as console. Are our dollars worth less?

I'm sure your right! I wonder if vendors pay an extra penalty $ wise to Steam for every refund Steam has to do? That would make total sense why WB would yank it.

There are no penalties, but no publisher wants to lose sales.

Did they ever completely fixed that game? (Framerate issues with x-rays and the storm level)
Aside from the black crush in cutscenes, all of the performance issues have been fixed for me. Haven't tried to play online, though. I don't have any friends playing it on PC.

I mean, Iron Galaxy is known to be a poor studio that has a track record of doing bad ports. WB took their biggest release and had them port it, and I can only assume it was to cut cost and save money.

This seems like a case of WB taking their biggest release and cutting corners to save money -- at the expense of their consumers.

I'm not sure we will ever know if WB knew this port was this poor and thought consumers would deal with it. Or if they have their head so deep in the sand, that they weren't aware of just how poor of a state it was actually in. Either way, the major backlash online and people using their voices, certainly made them realize their decisions for this port was a bad decision.

Didn't that Dayz knock off get pulled out in the same fashion only to reappear months later under a new name?

That was a case of false advertising particularly in game specific description. Like someone selling it as an open world sandbox shooter game but turns out to linear corridor shooter.

Glad to see they are taking this seriously now, even though it should have never been released in the first place?

A fascinating move. I'm really interested to know how much of this was motivated by Steam refunds, but either way it certainly played some part.

Very interested to see if this sets a precedent for future AAA releases.

So apparently they will re-release the game in the Fall, but I wonder if the current owners will get a patch of some kind before that.
