Persona 5 Trailer 2

Any chance of this on PC?

It is not impossible... but very unlikely.

What's funny is that Atlus Japan is kind of an anomaly among popular Japanese developers that haven't come to Steam yet. Before it used to be the opposite.

It's one heck of a world when Idea Factory beats you to the punch on recognizing a market though. I won't let them live that down. :P

The jist of things is that Atlus needs to stop acting like the small-time, barely noticeable niche JRPG producers they seem to think they are.

Even just their handling of Persona 5 this year has been proof of that.

I don't think 2015 release date is that unreal, maybe for EU but we can import it so I don't personally mind too much even if we get it late, I have no intention of waiting for this anyway.
With Persona 5 getting on Youtubes front page I hope they realized this is their big chance, though I doubt this but maybe Sony is helping them with marketing and they plan to go out with bang. Who knows, there's still months to December and that's when I think it'll hit the markets so starting marketing now would be too early anyway.

There is a chance but very slim. If it does happen itll be atleast 4+ years away.

Ya know, I sorta wonder how much time they spent on menu animations I mean even P4D has some great looking ones.

Heck it seems every Persona game 3 and above had some great animations to them.

I'm just realizing they haven't shown off the other characters' personas. We see the MC attack with his and then the rest of the characters just use standard attacks. I guess they're saving those for a later?

And yet some people in this very thread will just plug their fingers in their ears and just say "Atlus, shrug"

This needs to stop. It really does.

That's not my intent. My intent is to share the perspective of why Atlus is doing things the way they are, so that others will calm down and not take the lack of any P5 media as some sort of sign that the game is in some sort of troubled state.

This trailer itself is evident of that fact of how Atlus is managing their marketing. Not that they couldn't show anything at E3, THEY DON'T WANT TO.

I was hoping we'd see improvements in the engine, but it still isn't on par with Catherine's Gambryo engine. But aside from that, the hype is still strong. I'm liking the more trap-based dungeons; P3's dungeons felt very sterile.

I can see P5 doing 1 million worldwide very easily though since P4G did over 700K on a handheld which is considered dead outside of Japan.

And yet, the big ones have adapted. It's the smaller ones such is NIS and Atlus that haven't. In Atlus's case it's especially worrying, because you're dealing with quite possibly the best rising JRPG out there.

Who are we defining as the big ones? Square Enix (and Sony), obviously. Who else?

1 million WW? There is 0 question that it will reach that, probably within the period of 3 months (if it were a simultaneous release).

Hell, 2 million is even a realistic projection, in my opinion... well, maybe not if the North American marketing gets weird somehow, and they think that people don't care about Persona 5 over here even though there are many, many examples of the enthusiast fanbase proving otherwise through polls and impressions.

Their E3 badge called Persona 5 "one of the most anticipated RPGs in the world." I hope they all know that's not just embellished marketing speak.

Look at Fallout 4. We had NOTHING until this E3, and then "boom November release date"

Okay great point. I guess some Devs just do their own thing. I still don't think this is the norm. But yeah, some Devs do in fact do this. And they have their own reasons for doing this.

But with Fallout we knew nothing. We've known about Persona 5 for a year and a half and have been teased with trailers and even a 2015 release date on a site. Not sure it's 1:1 the same. Fallout they held all info till they were ready to release everything including a solid release date, and pre-orders.

Persona 5 has had none of this and we are 5-6 months out supposedly. We've already been teased for a year and a half. *shrugs*

I would prefer the Fallout method, if they released all info at once including pre-orders and a release date. Absolutely. Would have loved that.

I think you're overestimating. 1 million in US is a VERY VERY VERY high benchmark.

Yeah, Persona 4 cleared around 123,000 in the USA by January NPD 2009 though that isn't a totally reliable number, Atlus said 110,000 last update from them I could find. Persona 4 Golden did 65-70k for July 2013 (creamsugar leaked that one in the relevant thread). Let's say they managed to move a few more copies and add Canada, and perhaps 250,000 sales for North America by now. Maybe 300,000 but that's probably optimistic, unless someone has final numbers.

I'm willing to wager half a million copies for Persona 5 in the USA, based on the expanding popularity and spin-offs and what not, but I have to agree that 1 million is a heck of a reach unless Sony or Atlus spend some serious money on marketing.

Globally the Persona series including all games and spin-offs both physical and digital has cleared over 6 million units.

Ha, and if there was any company that qualified for "doing their own thing," Atlus would be it.

Lol yes! So true. I can accept that I'm just biased and love this series immensely, that I'm being irrational here. But I will say that at least Fallout had a specific release date and pre orders up. I guess we just have to hope they do that soon too. Wonder how far they can push it into the next 5-6 months of it's really coming out this year. Like how close to release date before pre-orders and actual release date is announced.

Fallout 4 wasn't used as a tool to market 4 Fallout spinoffs.

Atlus knows how the thirst for P5. They are milking that thirst to push all their other spinoffs, concert, etc.

Yeah I'll just assume I have no idea what I'm talking about and shut up lol. I'm sorry. You guys know more than me. The thirst is definitely real. That I know lol

I don't think they've been using Persona 5 for that purpose for anything other than PSL2015 and P4D, though. Since November 2013, Persona 5 has been radio silent outside of a few blips on the radar, and it's only since February 2015 that things have been getting a bit more active.

I'm referring to the announcement back in 2013 where they announced Ultimax,Q,P4DAN before announcing 5.

There was expectations for P5 at that event.

Ah, I guess expectations for Persona 5 brought more eyes on the spin-off games, themselves (although Persona 5 was apparently not announced at several of the large city monitor locations live) at that event, sure. Since that day, though, it's not like Persona 5 has been a factor regarding the marketing for other Persona products until this year.

I'm not very happy about there (I'm assuming) only being 4 playable characters.

Shigenori Soejima:
We still have a lot left to show, so hopefully people keep an eye on us and wait to see what’s coming up. Chief among those, in fact, are more allied characters that we have yet to show, but I’d say that we won’t be running out of new stuff to reveal anytime soon. So stay hyped and sit tight until we finally get this game out in your hands!
Assumptions.

I personally wouldn't even care if it was a smaller, more reserved group of people like it was in Persona 2. I think they all live together in the same hideout, so it's probably not going to be Persona 3 sized.

Hah, I was hoping this game with have a more manageable team and keep it lower than past games. I knew more would come than the main cast shown in trailers.

Did they ever say if you can romance outside the group? I always knew the team would be bigger than 4. But if it was just 4, romance options would be pretty limited and straight forward. It got me thinking if this game will allow you to romance outside the group and I mean in a fully fleshed out way. Actual plot.

I haven't been following all the details as much as you guys. Was wondering if they had said anything on romance in general. Sorry if this is a dumb question.

you've been able to romance outside the group in P3 and P4 so

Art Director already said they had more allies to reveal.

I mean, really people? You see 4 people and assume that's it for the whole game?
If there was more to the game, it would be in the trailer. From what I can tell, the entire game is about two minutes long!

Yeah, I'm fine with a smaller crew. That said, I think it'll land at about the same number as P4.

I think they just all meet up at the cafe, I doubt they all live there.

I still say they're master trolling and no one can say it isn't working.

Haha i was only speculating since Sega bought Atlus id assume theyd like to push a few more titles seeing how well VC did.

Also i dont even know if there are any Atlus games on PC.

Now this? This is Sega/Atlus dropping the goddamn ball. This right here.

I think I interpreted it wrong, it's only been confirmed that the main protagonist lives there.

Atlus:
Having moved to Tokyo just before the start of the school year, he finds residence at a cafe run by his parents' friend, and is about to get his first taste of school life in the big city.
Famitsu:
The protagonist is a second year high school student who has recently moved to the big city, and lives with his parents’ friends at a coffee shop.
