Bungie apologizes for Taken King controversy, CE items to be sold separate

It really looks like bungie and Activision are trying to bring World of Warcraft's pricing models to console gamers.

Good thing I quit wow. It was just too expensive in the long run.

The part that get me is that it cost use the same as the other dlc that is fucking stupid , why in the world is that the case?

So I'm now paying $60 for The Taken King... Is this Destiny 2 in terms of content??? Because if not they can kindly EAD (not the Nintendo kind either...).

Sheeeeeeit, so buying digitally for TTK and extras is gonna cost 60 bucks total? I still might as well buy the physical collectors since it'll be 10 bucks more (including tax) with GCU.

Even then, I can't justify the cost. Their content for value ratio thus far has been laughable.

That is exactly the issue. Thus we shall voice our displeasure like gamers, and even other developers are sharing as well.

They are doing exactly that... only far fucking less content by a mile.

And I was just about to jump back in (mentioned it in excitement yesterday in another thread) to get to 30 and try the newest "episodes" that were included with my original CE. But this is starting to feel distasteful to me.

*says game doesn't have enough value for content provided*

*pays $60 to shoot into a cave*

Are you even trying? I played the whole game and had nothing else to do while we waited for more content. During that time, I shot into a cave for shiny things and it was more fun than killing the same mobs over and over again. So what? I wanted something to do. Bungie decided that they want me to play the game their way and cut it out. I'm not a fan of buying a product, using said product within the rules of the product and having the seller come up to me and then make changes to it telling me, "I'm not fulfilling their vision of the product." They could fuck off at that point.

EDIT: technically, I lasted to the first Queens DLC stuff, but then they realized we could grind out mats too easily so guess what? They cut that out, too. Making a game and then bleeding your customers for every penny and actually removing valid features from the game that make it slightly more entertaining and easier to level up just so you can make more money is shady as shit in my book.

You can still shoot into a cave. It's just on Venus now. And by shooting into a cave you are shooting the same mobs... over and over again.

World of Warcraft has an insanely different pricing model. Are you paying a similar amount overall? Yes. Are you getting the same amount of content for said amount? Fuck to the no.

Cool thing he apologized because he indeed sounded like Microsoft Xbox One reveal PR. "Xbox 360 is the console for you", and all that.

The more people speak the less understanding I have of this mess. I'm planning to get into Destiny in september but I have no fucking clue of what to buy.

Isnt 20$ the price for 1 of their DLC? They think that 3 emotes, 3 shaders and a sparrow are worth the price of 1 entire DLC which in the first place the DLC wasnt even worth that price! What in the actual fuck.

It's like these guys really wan't to piss their customers off. This has to be Activision's doing, I hope it is and hope this isnt Bungie being this stupid. It's like they never understood why people were complaining in the first place. WOW

You want to buy the $60 version that has Destiny+TDB+HoW+TTK.

If you are new to the game you can choose to buy the $60 blundle with all the content or the $80 bundle with all the content plus cosmetic stuff

At first I thought I read that whole apology wrong. But then I read the comments.

Which then made the whole apology seem kind of creepy, like it was written by someone exhibiting anti-social behavior...

...

I liked Destiny, and have probably spent at the very least 100+ hours on it, not to mention the fact of how I followed the game from the day it was announced, and grew up playing Bungie's amazing halo games.
But all this corporate treatment of loyal fans has made me sick to my stomach to the point that I'm just done.
$20 is just ridiculous in my opinion and seems like a money grab
I don't know if it is bungie that has gone bad, or Activision (hopefully the latter) but either way, there are simply too many exciting games coming this year for me to bother supporting this anymore.

That said, I do feel like Luke's apology was sincere on his part, and takes balls to do.

You're missing my point, mate. I'm not trying to be flippant or argumentative, either. It is not just moving the cave. Bungie removes things just for the sake of making you need to spend more time and money to level up. There was nothing wrong with shooting in a cave for mats. Anyone could see I had beat the game. I paid for the game. Same thing with the Queens stuff. Grinding the level and selling the stuff. They saw people were able to actually progress so BOOM they took it out. It's the philosophy behind it all that I am against. Don't sell me something and then tell me how I have to play it. I am not glitching or anything and I am doing all the stuff the game offers.

The Dark Below = $20
House of Wolves = $20
A few shaders, emblem and class items = $20
I fail to see how cosmetic items value is worth $20 when the DLC packs are $20.

Seriously bungie how do you sleep at night you blood sucking bastards?

Not to interrupt all this delightful hyperbole with annoying facts, but that's actually incorrect. There's no sparrow in this content. The DLC includes three new emotes, three new shaders, and the first exotic class items (for each class) in the history of the game.

Please continue.

They know this, hence my theory as to why the marketing is treating the new expansion almost like a relaunch. The way it is going, you would think it never launched last year, and they are relaunching what should have been the original game we read about before the stripped down version we got.

See those mountains over there? You can go there!

The reason they are charging $20 is because they know there are many Destiny fans who will pay $20 for this. Plain and simple. Bungie is not sorry. Bungie sees this as another convenient and simple revenue stream.

I really like the people at Bungie, so it sucks to see then have to justify this. I really wish an Activision PR person would tell me why I'm getting screwed so people would know where to place the blame.

Then again, Bungie higher ups did fire Marty O'Donnell, so maybe this is a new Bungie...

I hear you.

For what it's worth they re balanced the post 20 leveling system considerably and it's much easier to hit the cap after HoW.

Maybe the problem isn't that these special items are so expensive but that the DLC expansions were just way too cheap. An error that makes those price comparisons look ridiculous now.

Indeed its something to scratch your head and think about supporting the game, yet I wonder how many noticed that.

Everything shown and talked about with The Taken King has squashed that part of me that was hopeful for the future of Destiny as an IP. I still really want to like that game, but man, they've squandered all the good will they once had.

If Bungie's paying attention, this is someone who bought (happily) the Ghost edition, logged a few hundred hours, and now is entirely checked out and will be skipping The Taken King.

But it feels you save 20 bucks anyway, which is still questionable.
To say the least.

No, The Taken King is still $40. If you'd like the exclusive collector's content, you'll now have the option to pick that up for an additional $20.
Collectors content is worth half the price the new content? Worth a third of what the standalone game used to be? Worth a quarter of what's in the $80 CE? Yeah... Ok...

Fuck Bungie.
Fuck Activision.
Expecting 60 dollars in the U.S. for less than half of the original game's already lacking content and even more money in Europe shows just how fucking greedy they are.
Fuck.

That is definitely an agreeable perspective.

Activision's experiment on how little shit we can give for the most dollar is working.

It's a shame that the $40/£40 price point gets swept under the rug because a bunch of people who don't play the game feel ripped off by a cosmetic pack.

Yeah, I know. I read up on it because in all honesty, I really liked Destiny. I'm not one to quibble about paying for content if I like a game and they want to continue to give us new stuff. Hell, I even overlooked the fact that there was zero story ingame and they wanted us to go read the website for back story. It's just I see stuff like $20 bucks for this, $40 more for the expansion plus more money for this and it's just like OK, you want me to drop hundreds of dollars over a year or so on your game then don't flipping tell me how to play it. It reminds me of my ex-wife. Give me money, now do what I say and don't be happy. lol

The apology, accepted.

The olive branch though...why is it on fire!?

I'm sorry, I love Destiny. I went from being behind it as a 6/10 game to it being something I can't stop coming back to. Not because I have a social handicap. Not because I have a mental sickness. Not because I'm an addict.

I keep coming back because the core gunplay feels fantastic and the folks here on DestinyGAF are amazing
even if too many take the Titan crutch :p

But $20 for the emotes+emblem/shader/whatever the hell it is? This is compared to each DLC drop so far having been $20 that offered strikes, raids (or some other team oriented post-content), quests, bounties, weapons, armor, and more. Where the hell is that coming from?

Seriously, why can't there be a Taken King CE (Edit: Physical) at a $20 discount due to the removal of the core game and the two previous DLCs for those who just want TTK? What is so goddamn hard about that? I don't even give a flying bam about what digital stuff was restricted to the CE. That wasn't the problem. The problem was that the best packages for the game, targeted at the fans by Bungie's/Activision's marketing, required folks to buy all the old content again to get that collection. Sure, things get solved on the digital side, but now we're being gouged for that option for ONLY the meager digital pieces.

Sure, I think it comes out to the same amount buying TTK digitally and this stuff with said discount, but the physical edition is where I'm focused at. Digital wise should be even cheaper but obviously that's a losing battle long before I attempt to start it.

And seriously, take a walk with the 'it's optional' garbage. No shit. Just like TTK. Just like the game itself. What the hell does that have to do with this 'offer' being propped up at the same market price as previous DLC that contained easily 10x (if not double) that amount of content that went beyond just cosmetics? There's nothing about player entitlement about that. I personally don't mind paying for cosmetics if they interest me...just not at the same price for a pathetic fraction of what was offered before.

The fact that I greatly enjoy the game, being the only game I play after dumping 2K on a rig and picking up some excellent titles since its launch and hardly getting to any of them, and saying these things makes me wonder what is going on with people who find this acceptable. Some being those I've had good times with and wouldn't think would take that route.

That dude is trying to screw us even during an apology ? WTF ...

I highly doubt Luke had anything to do with the pricing, and him and Deej are just passing the word on the solution Activision settled on. They handle all the distribution and pricing, not the devs or community members.

Edit: I felt I got my money's worth from TDB and HoW, even if I haven't been able to take full advantage of what they had to offer. Note, that doesn't mean I felt the amount of content is without criticism, just as I had little issue with the full game and being a very early voice of displeasure on what amounted to the scope and variety of the final game.

Anyone who buys this stuff are suckers.

Even if you've invested $100 on this game so far, it's best time you cut your losses. They obviously have learnt nothing by the fan outcry. Next DLC will be $50 lol

That's a question each guardian will, again, have the option of answering as they choose come the 15th of September.

Are those Activision/Bungie tinted glasses in your avatar?

Now you are just being argumentative. Check the pro bono at the door, mate.

Also there are just as many people voicing their displeasure about the US/EU pricing, you just choose to focus your defense on the cosmetics.

I feel the same way about hats in TF or crates in CS.

I get that you hate the idea, its totally reasonable, I just don't spend my time posting in threads about it calling people suckers.

seems weird.

The game they are releasing with destiny+HOW TDB+TTK should have been the game they released a year ago. That would have been enough content to last people a long ass time. Pretty much we were the damn beta group.

I wish I waited a year but there was no way I woulda saw this coming.
