Warner Brothers suspends [new] purchases for PC version of Batman Arkham Knight

The steam page now says releasing this FALL?? Has there been any official statement saying the game won't be back on PC till fall?

For the 20th time in this thread, the Fall 2015 date is for the non-Windows versions and has been there for ages.

Everything went better than expected. Maybe I won't wind up refunding my GMG order after all!

Valve really saved the day with that refund system.

I think they would take the extra hassle if it gets developers/publishers a second look at their games they are releasing, knowing that if you release as shit product people are getting their money back.

Maybe they charge extra cut when you re-release the product?

I'm sure they'll refund those who bought it already. Otherwise, this is still open to an easy class action suit which is the main reason it's being shut down.

You are going to see more AAA games not release on PC now or just delay.

So fucking what? That's totally fine.

Either treat us with equal respect or just don't bother at all.

You mean PC gamers might not actually get the latest broken-ass Assassin's Creed title? Oh boo hoo - whatever will we do?!?

Holy shit. This was handled so poorly. How could they even release it broken like that? Did no one actually QA that port? Did they think nobody would notice? Lol.

They should also refund everyone who bought it on PC, let them decide if they want to purchase it again once they re-release it.

I highly highly highly doubt you'll see any more not releasing because of this.

PC ports generate tens of millions of dollars and have incredibly long tail end consistent sales. Games that have been out for years are selling over 100k just during Steam Sales.

What this will do, is ensure devs can't fuck around. PC ports have to be legit.

It's amazing what happens when you give people options.

Charge for GFWL? Get lost, Microsoft.

We can refund games now? Take your shit back, Warner Bros.

What started as one of the worst moments in recent PC gaming has actually revealed what may be another one of its...revolutions. For the longest time, the possibility of refunding had pretty much been out of reach for PC gamers.

But with digital downloads and the biggest distributor of digital games now allowing refunds, this is a game changer.

I honestly think this will be a moment that will be referenced for years to come. It's a landmark case, really.

Or they could take the PC platform a bit more seriously? They managed to get the game working well on two other platforms (underpowered compared to the average PC at that) so there's little excuse for it not working as well on PC, and on day one.

Not sure why people keep spouting that pc games might get delayed or outright cancelled now by other devs. It boggles my mind that you would rather have a buggy ass and lazy port of a AAA game instead of calling developers out on this. In my mind, if a publisher does not port a game to the pc, then they just will not ever get my money again.

The latter is very possible - and maybe for the best (annoying as it is) if it avoids situations like this.

There's not a chance in hell that AAA publishers cut back on PC support altogether, given how much the market has grown.

This right here is the silver lining. Thanks to valve, pc gamers finally have a voice. Consoles have the certification process, now PCs have a quality assurance system as well.

So what's actually wrong with this game? I looked up this guy's review, but all I heard was a bunch of technical terms and not about anything about how the actual game plays like if it's slow or filled with glitches.

The actual game play is fine. It's a batman ass batman game. The performance of the game is just awful. FPS that bounces everywhere, missing textures, horrible performance in the batmobile, missing settings that should be there for a pc port, among a lot of other stuff. The performance of the game is the problem, not the actual gameplay.

If I had to guess, this is not due to bad PR. It's because Steam - the platform which it was probably getting ~75% of its sales on was getting hammered with refund requests. I think Green Man Gaming was also offering refunds if the next patch did not clear up issues with the games.

The reason it's unprecedented is because PC gamers aren't stuck with half assed ports if they buy digitally anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if this discourages companies from doing this in the future. GTA IV and Saints Row 2 were two pretty notorious examples of games with shitty PC ports.

PC ports are going nowhere. Anyone saying this incredibly off base. PC games sell incredibly well over time and give devs / pubs a consistent stream of revenue for years and years. Much longer than consoles with their huge used / pre owned game market.

For example here the list of Steam games that are at least 1 full year old that sold over 200k units during JUST the 2 week Summer Sale

Witcher 2: 305,000 sales
Payday 2: 279,000 sales
Fallout New Vegas: 253,000 sales
Dishonored: 247,000 sales
Metro Last Light: 241,000 sales
Fallout 3: 228,000 sales
Terraria: 225,000 sales
Metro 2033: 221,000 sales
Borderlands 2: 218,000 sales
Age of Empires 2: 216,000 sales
Skyrim: 211,000 sales

And there are tons more over 100k sales. Tell me in NPD how often you see games selling this number of units this long after release? You don't. During the Steam Summer sale over 33 million games were sold for nearly 200 million dollars in revenue.

That's in 2 WEEKS!!! Insanity. PC games are going nowhere, in fact they are growing and growing and growing.

What this cluster fuck tell Devs and Pubs is the days of releasing shit ports and getting away from it are over. Make a solid port and you'll be rewarded. PC gamers will buy your games and support you for years to come. Screw us, and we will say screw you back.

Man, looking at your list it just reminds me that Terraria always sells like crazy during Steam sales, it is a great game.

Whoa, this is something new.

Now I don't know wether to get a refund or ride it out. Suppose I should see what GMGs response to this is.
GMG isn't gonna give out refunds until after stuff will most likely be fixed anyways, so you don't really have a choice but to ride it out.

Get a refund, because there's no guarantee they will fix it right. You can always buy it later.

GMG not having Steam's refund policy- given how AAA PC ports can be botched, it's why I'm no longer going to use them, outside of expansions/DLC that I know will be handled correctly.

The problem is there is so much wrong with the port how could they possibly fix it quickly. This will probably be months of patches.

Even with the refunds, I'm surprised they actually went through with it. Hope they can reach the solutions needed to get the game up to par.

#1. I don't give WB any props for making this move. The props needs to be given to Steam for having user reviews and the newly released refund system in place. Anyone who has been PC gaming for a long time will tell you in the past if we got a terrible port we generally just had to live with it because there was no way to hurt the publisher where it counts, the bank account. I am 99% sure this never would have happened under the old system without refounds.

#2. I wonder if I should I just keep the 50+ GB of data on my HDD until this is fixed or if they will require the download to be redone once this is hopefully fixed?

All the data is pretty unpacked as is, and Steam updates usually just use delta patching. Even a 'massive' update probably won't be anywhere near the size of the game. Does sound like it might be a bug on your end though, Steam is only reporting 38~gb here.

Well an update on this since I already had the PS4 LE coming and saw the PC issues I never opened steam to unpack it yesterday, and now that it's not available for purchase Steam can't unencrypt it. LOL. I guess I might as well just delete the data.

Do these fucking devs think that somehow, this will be released to the public, get played by millions and yet no one will notice what a botched job it is? At the least Iron Galaxy knew this was complete and utter shit, if WB or Rocksteady did themselves not check the quality of the port I don't quite know what to say. Last I checked, they weren't exactly strapped for cash and a lazy port would hurt much more than paying for competent developers.

This is developers trying their luck, it's happening more and more it seems, broken games at launch are becoming the norm.

Yup trying their luck, see if they can get away with it. No way you couldn't know how bad this was.
They deserve very little credit for this, it's just necessary to save their asses

I think that it's the first time this happened from what I remember. Wasn't planning on touching it till it's fixed anyway, so no worries for me, I got witcher 3.
