I think religions are going to be against it for a very long time, which is fine because it is the religion's choice. Religious freedom and blah blah blah, BUT if religions are getting government money. I think they should be compelled to treat same sex couples equally.
 
Here in Nebraska, Governor Ricketts didn't make himself seem really stupid for a change:

“The U.S. Supreme Court has spoken and ruled state same-sex marriage bans to be unconstitutional," Ricketts said in a statement. "While 70 percent of Nebraskans approved our amendment to our state Constitution that defined marriage as only between a man and a woman, the highest court in the land has ruled states cannot place limits on marriage between same-sex couples. We will follow the law and respect the ruling outlined by the court."

"Today five Supreme Court Justices created a new constitutional right based upon sexual choices. The Constitution doesn’t speak, one way or the other, to the question of same-sex marriage. Under our system of federalism, the definition of marriage as a male-female union is properly a matter of state law. I agree with Chief Justice Robert’s contention that 'The majority’s decision is an act of will, not legal judgment.' The right it announces has no basis in the Constitution or this Court’s precedent.”

I have heard the gays all work in the entertainment industry so they've got all the moneys. Straights on the other hand won't be able to pay for marriages and BAM end of the world.

That would be a step down for him, short of him becoming Chief Justice and Roberts is going to be there for a very long time.
 
Very happy that this is taking place. Was fortunate enough to go to one of the first gay weddings in the US, some 10 years ago in Massachusetts. Glad that this will be extended to all Americans in all states.

On a basic economic level, more wedding demand means more expensive weddings. I doubt it'd change much though, gay weddings will be a small percentage of weddings and a lot of gay couples already have some kind of expensive celebratory event.
 
How can people think this will bring any... uh, divine punishment, when several countries have gone through this before? Heck, even states within the US. Did the apocalypse wait until it was legal nationwide? Is America the only country that gets punished because of gay marriage? Jeez.

Bigger issue will be booking places. If you want a certain place for a wedding or reception that's a "hot" spot you have to book well in advance. This just ups the # of people trying to get those places.

Nah. It won't happen. It's bluster to start off after the announcement. Cities and towns will begin issuing them and then they'll get held up if they decisions get taken to court.

Some conservatives have advocated for a civil disobedience effort against a Supreme Court decision in favor of same-sex marriage. However, officials in red states told The Huffington Post recently that they are prepared to implement the decision, going so far as to ready gender-neutral marriage licenses and set later office hours. Gerard Rickhoff, who oversees marriage licenses in Bexar County, Texas, said that if same-sex couples are discriminated against elsewhere in the state, "Just get in your car and come on down the highway. You'll be embraced here."

More demand for all the costs related to marriage like catering, photographers, planners and all that since they'll all be getting more requests.

Super psyched for this though.Not looking forward to checking my work emails though.
 
Fox News just said Texas was being reluctant and giving strong statements about the issue and in giving out licenses to gay couples.

Its a law now, so are they breaking the law then?
