SCOTUS strikes down gay marriage bans, legalizing marriage equality nationwide

Law of the land is the law of the land. I have a different definition of what a marriage itself is but as the broader definition of marriage changed for the vast majority of people, this is expected and no surprise as the ruling is based on what the vast majority view of marriage is and in that regard it is the correct ruling based on their definition of marriage.

How can people think this will bring any... uh, divine punishment, when several countries have gone through this before? Heck, even states within the US. Did the apocalypse wait until it was legal nationwide? Is America the only country that gets punished because of gay marriage? Jeez.
Those other countries were already godless hellholes, now the last bastion, the country divined from His Will lies in ruins.

Fox News just said Texas was being reluctant and giving strong statements about the issue and in giving out licenses to gay couples.

Its a law now, so aren't they breaking the law then?

Apparently Texas has a 72 hour waiting period, I would not expect them to waive that waiting period now (although, one could argue they have been waiting YEARS)

If they are refusing to have them start the standard 72 hour wait then that's another matter.

This is amazing. :D thanks SCOTUS for having some sense !

Roberts dissented? Well, that's disappointing. But owell, Marriage Equality exists now and that is what really matters. ^_^

So will Texas leave now that we in the Gay cabal have come to power? Or which state will leave? Or threaten to leave?

Full disclosure: I don't live in the states anymore and when I did I was little and cute.

God dammit, America!

How can I go home tonight and have sex with my wife knowing that somewhere out there...gays are going to be doing the same thing to their husbands and wives?! Huh, America?! Huh?! Think of my heterosexual dick and its feelings!

Anyway, this is fantastic news, and hopefully we can now stop dragging our feet about other important stuff too. The salt will be delicious, and I'm already refreshing my Facebook in anticipation of the usual suspects sure to put on a good show. This has been a crazy week for America in terms of progress and actually doing things that benefit the people of this country. It's like bizarro world this week.

It's not a law, it's a Supreme Court ruling. What it means is that cities and towns must grant them, and they'll be handled by the Justice department if they don't. Any cities or states that don't will either be taken to court, and lose, or couples will go to the next city over and get one, and then it'll be held up in state court.

The Attorney General here in Tennessee is supposed to give “instructions” to the county clerks @ 2pm, assuming he’s not a moron, they will be issuing them in Tennessee.

Glad I suspended my FB account, I’m sure it’s full of a lot of “rational” discussion.

Oh okay, reason its a big deal for me is I live in Texas. Though I'm not in a relationship right now, so marriage for me is probably not possible any time soon.

This is such a beautiful picture that truly encompasses just what these citizens have been fighting for. Never thought I would ever see this in my state.

And shame on me for looking at the AJC's comments about this ruling. So much hatred for complete strangers doing something that affects them in no way.

Bexar County, San Antonio, seems like they will be starting today. They came out and said they don't expect a long delay and there are already people lining up.

Some conservatives have advocated for a civil disobedience effort against a Supreme Court decision in favor of same-sex marriage. However, officials in red states told The Huffington Post recently that they are prepared to implement the decision, going so far as to ready gender-neutral marriage licenses and set later office hours. Gerard Rickhoff, who oversees marriage licenses in Bexar County, Texas, said that if same-sex couples are discriminated against elsewhere in the state, "Just get in your car and come on down the highway. You'll be embraced here."

Just grab the first person you see and force them into it. It's not like marriage means anything in this country anymore.

I don't think there's anything against getting the actual certificate, you just can't have the ceremony before the 72 hours is up.

The best part about this? Its going to absolutely fracture the GoP (well, more than they already are).

The 2016 primaries can't come fast enough. Best six months of comedy EVER!
