SCOTUS strikes down gay marriage bans, legalizing marriage equality nationwide

How can people think this will bring any... uh, divine punishment, when several countries have gone through this before? Heck, even states within the US. Did the apocalypse wait until it was legal nationwide? Is America the only country that gets punished because of gay marriage? Jeez.

It's the same sort of hardcore patriotic Christians who believe God thinks America is #1 and loves us more than anybody else.

Local counties all over Texas are ignoring the Texas AG and are issuing licenses.
Who cares about him.

This is the same AGs office that is going after me for child support... for the kids that fucking live with me and my wife. Still married. My kids. They want me to pay child support.

Law of the land is the law of the land. I have a different definition of what a marriage itself is but as the broader definition of marriage changed for the vast majority of people, this is expected and no surprise as the ruling is based on what the vast majority view of marriage is and in that regard it is the correct ruling based on their definition of marriage.

This wasn't about majority view. Weak.

Edit: Posting cause of reactions. Obviously I'm happy this ruling came down.

Blah blah blah. Honestly, it can all be checked at the door. It isn't difficult, equality under the law.

Yeah there are plenty of blue areas in Texas and they are usually where population is the most dense and thus well able to handle high volumes of people. GG Texas AG.

If you did, would the check go to your wife? So like just some shuffling of paper to return your money?

I'm out guys. You may not believe me but I pray God will bless all of you. 👍🏼

See, I also got those special "talking to God" powers. He actually told me that what he doesn't really like is idiotic bigots that think they can speak for him and actively try to keep other people from being happy. But sure, keep being dellusional.

What's really fun is that people had different definitions of marriage before Christianity or any other religion repurposed it, so what it means to you, or someone 2000 years ago praying in a church, or someone 100 years from now praying to a cactus doesn't actually mean anything.

Generally speaking, yes.

But the problem is that since my two older kids are disabled and on SSI, the support would count as unearned income therefore lessening their benefits.

People are seething over other people being able to get married.

The fuck is wrong with people.
People felt better about themselves for so long based on feeling superior to others. Now they are no longer superior.

So now they're slowly realising how crappy they really are deep down.

Happy or salty?

(Okay, they're tears, so salty by definition, but you know what I mean)

I believe it was referring to this: https://twitter.com/CNNSitRoom/status/614447466172149760

So that would be happy. (And it's CNN, so probably happy).

But I could be wrong.

Wow, 0 salt so far on my FB timeline, maybe they're workshopping their pithy condemnations now? (still friends with a bunch of religion people from my youth)

Same here. Maybe they just haven't woken up yet...

Apparently Texas has a 72 hour waiting period, I would not expect them to waive that waiting period now (although, one could argue they have been waiting YEARS)

If they are refusing to have them start the standard 72 hour wait then that's another matter.

Houston Chronicle stated that some counties prepared for this ahead of time.

You must apply for a marriage license through a county clerk, some of whom have prepared to issue licenses to same-sex couples in anticipation of the Supreme Court's ruling. Although the state application form designates certain fields for a female applicant and others for a male, some clerks have said they would allow people to correct the form by hand if the state has not prepared a new one in time.

Which is refreshing to hear as a Texan.

And Greg Abbot can fuck off

Greg Abbot said:
Marriage was defined by God. No man can redefine it. We will defend our religious liberties. #tcot

Remember when gay marriage wasn't legal in America, the NAACP's leaders were black, Shenmue III wasn't announced, and Ryu wasn't in Smash?

Those were dark times.

Gay marriage has come to America thanks to Ohio, BTW. Today's decision came on a case brought by an Ohioan, James Obergefell. The case's name is "OBERGEFELL, ET AL. v. HODGES, DIRECTOR, OHIO DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, ET AL."

The people against gay marriage who brought the state constitutional amendment to Ohio voters in 2004 that banned gay marriage actually caused the eventual legalization of gay marriage for the entire nation. Irony!

Does it affect me, or how I live my life?
No.
Does it affect how I take care of my family?
No.
Will it bring harm to innocents?
No.
Will it bring happiness to others and improve their quality of life?
Yes.

Hmm...yeah, I'm ok with this.

Congrats to those who will benefit from this ruling.
