I haven't been proud to be an American 2 days in a row since, uh, the 90s? Certainly not since Bush v Gore. That was the first time I was able to vote and, despite entirely understanding the process from my shockingly good public schooling, was still mad as hell. Fuck the margin, though. This sort of landmark case should be 7-2 or higher to make a massive historical exclamation point. Not many cases this big come around.

Something I wasn't anticipating (but should have)-- This is a great day for Facebook friend... pruning.

Let the schadenfreude begin! Looking forward (in a twisted way) to all the states and local officials who will refuse to issue licenses and see if anyone ends up getting arrested for being in contempt since judges at all court levels must now order them to.

I think their argument is the majority should decide which is exactly why our founding fathers made our country a republic not a democracy. A full democracy to me is trouble because the majority will always decide laws thus hurting the minority. We have three branches of government for this specific reason. All 3 keep each other in order. The judicial today overruled the legislative government of each state.

Due to low quality 16 bit graphics, female yoshis asshole and pussy simply appear to be one in the same. They're not.

This is a big deal. And it personally means a lot to me. Thank you SCOTUS for doing what was right.

I have no idea how any American could have fought this. Because from a pure rights/legal stand point, it made ZERO sense to keep out other Americans from obtaining these benefits. I actually knew Christians who thought homosexuality was a sin, and still fought for Gay marriage, purely because they felt as Americans, they had to. I just don't get how people can be so selfish, and allow their own personal views to hurt other people. I know this happens all the time, but this was just so blatant and obvious.
 
Someone should remind uppity mentals that originally marriage was never anything to do with god or religion. It was a simple ceremony and a legal contract. Nothing about it was religious in any way. In fact religious marriage is quite a new concept.
If gays want to get married then I have no problem with that. This isn't the dark ages where people thought homosexuality was some sort of life style choice/product of an evil mind. We know that it is largely a genetic thing, your born with it. It's a part of who you are and that's it. These people aren't evil or bad, they are normal lumpen human beings with slightly different genes. God the way some people talk you would think that someone being gay was worse than being fucking Hitler. I'm sure God is much more angry with you because you prefer men over women or vice versa than he ever was with the murder of millions of people. That never brought the end of days for humanity and neither will some people of the same sex being married.
They really do have a wonderfully warped view of what being a christian is about "oh man fuck obamacare! It's evil etc". No seriously fuck you, it's not perfect by any means but if it saves one more life than what went before then isn't that more christian? Isn't it better to save life despite the cost rather than lose lives because of the costs.
Thank god I live in the UK, we may have our problems but thankfully religious nuttery is quite low on the list.

So does this mean a gay couple could get married tomorrow, today, RIGHT NOW if they wanted to? What other hurdles might they still face? I'm assuming some individual churches might still refuse to marry a gay couple?

Regardless, this is a huge step forward and I am extremely happy. :)
