I know this will probably get overlooked by most, but that's okay. I'm not writing this post to draw attention. Rather, I just wanted to chime in on this decision.

A little background - I grew up in a very conservative household, and I still hold on to a lot of those values which were instilled upon me. However...

GREAT JOB SCOTUS! I have been pondering many, many things in my life lately and I can't help but feel like this decision is long overdue. No, I'm not homosexual. I have known a few over the years, and even counted some among my friends. This decision has little personal impact on my life. But this isn't about me or what I want/believe/care about. This is about what's right. The decision to legalize gay marriage is RIGHT.

So, yeah. I'm very happy. Party on, people!

Way make your own decision man. More people who grew up learning one way of life need to step back and do the same.

I think a lot of us understand the difference, but i have witnessed TOO MANY PEOPLE who unironically use the heinous phrase and think they're justified by a religion they obviously have no understanding of if they call themselves part of it, but do things like that.

It's like it's been pointed out in the thread, Churches are more than welcome to not marry people in religious ceremonies, but any so called "christian" who uses the name of god in vain to spread hate, is neither a good christian nor a good person.

Certainly hatred is reprehensible and there is no justification for people who condemn any cross-section of society in the name of God. I suppose I've just seen too many people, even in this thread, who don't seem to recognize the distinction I presented and believe that everyone who endorses the traditional view of marriage is some venom-spewing lunatic who wants to burn all gays at the stake. It's just not so.

It does impact your life to a degree. It gains validity to the notion that we, as humans, shouldn't accept hypocritical double standards. It establishes a modicum of an attempt for fairness.

If you ever believe in justice and liberty, and strive for it, this affects you. It affects everyone. This is a good thing for everybody, because it affirms that we are still continuing to try and do the right thing, even when so many assholes in the country to to steer us the wrong way.

It also gives hope for any seemingly insurmountable situation.

Believing that marriage is between one man and one woman is not the same as believing that God hates homosexuals.

I think people that have known each other less than 1 year should not get married
I think people more than 30 years apart should not get married
I think people that don't speak the same language should not get married
etc.....

but you know what? I'm not arrogant enough to think I can make other people's decisions for them. Nor am I delusional enough to think that their personal decisions will somehow affect my life.

So, I simply applied those rules to my own life and marriage, and let other people follow their own rules.

Snapchat also has some gay pride filters to celebrate the decision.

"Would a Jewish baker be expected make a Nazi wedding cake? Would a Black baker be expected to make a Klan wedding cake? But a Christian baker...........Screw them, they are bigots."

lol

I know it doesn't need rebutted, but
Nazi's actually killed Jews
Klan actually killed Blacks
Gays simply exist.

Just because Christians don't agree with their existence doesn't mean they can discriminate.

Good points, and I don't disagree with them.

I don't assume all those opposed to gay marriage want to burn all gays at the stake. Of course not but, I do know that they want to deny them the right to marry the person they love, which is also reprehensible.

Just leads more credence to her being a "brand" and it isn't real. lol That's my theory. Most of those people on Fox News are a "persona" designed to generate revenue.

people exaggerate for money sure. but I believe there's underlying belief for most of the people that do it in what they're saying

It's like when there's a discussion on a forum and someone says something people find distasteful and then they're branded a 'troll or a joke account', which never sits well with me. There are people irl who are actually like that.

I understand the point you're trying to make and what im going to ask is irrelevant, but im really really REALLY curious, what's the reasoning for this.

Honestly, just trying to think of things that would make a marriage more difficult. I was just watching Orange Is The New Black last night and
Healy is having troubles with his Russian bride a lot because they don't speak the same language.
I would imagine the language barrier would put quite a strain on the relationship (but I honestly don't care)

The supreme court consistently surprises me. Not because they do the right thing, but because they don't do the wrong thing when they very easily could.

You guys have some short memories... They've fucked up numerous times in just the last couple years.

Shuh-sheriously.

Hey, let's ban coveting our neighbor's stuff! It's in the Bible. One of the ten commandments, in fact-- can't say that about a dude laying with another dude. Enforceable, schmenforceable.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE CAN'T BAN SIN THAT WE DON'T HAVE ANY TROUBLE NOT COMMITTING?! THIS COUNTRY IS FINISHED

And so on

The Bible also bans eating shellfish and shaving. Time to protest Red Lobster.

It's funny how bakeries are such an important issue for these people yet they haven't taken the time to understand the legal issue on the most basic level -- it's about who you serve, not what you bake.

Maybe I'm drinking too much Kool Aid but I am incredibly excited to see what Generation X does once it finally takes power. Generation X has been unfairly criticized for decades now as being nothing but stupid lazy children when the reality is Generation X was handed one of the worst social economic crisis is facing modern history. The baby boomer population has included the population pyramid for the first time in history. I feel social progressive changes like this are just a hint of what Generation X will bring one safely take power. It inspires hope within me.

And guess what else, nobody is asking to do that if they don't want to! It's almost like our government isn't forcing people to take part in something because of their religion. Almost like they are separating what the churches say and what the states say. Now, wouldn't it be great if something like that was just baked right into our Constitution?

Bans tattoos and adultery both of those are punishable by death. If the faithful believe in their god there would be a lot less around right now. Those two alone should stop some of the hypocrites from talking but just saw bike down by the lake with a cross tattoo whining about the SCOTUS decision so not really.

Right, like when Obama made a strong push towards gun laws after Sandy Hook.

And then everything got WORSE in terms of gun laws. See how that works?

There is a big difference between priorities And lying.

Did I say he should push? Nope.

Lying for political gain is Bs. I stand by that.

Also, the reason gun laws did not improve was not because of public opinion. 90 percent of people favored background checks. Law didn't pass because of NRA and money in politics.

Obama too weak to take an actual stand against the issue of money in politics.

He is a politician wrapped in Washington s thinking. Not actually principled.
