SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

You are crazy.

This is a game from 1999/2000 and still has character models with perfectly fine recognizable faces that would be acceptable in mid-tier productions today. This looks absolutely phenomenal.

People shitting on Shenmue's visual are not only ignoring the 15 year gap but also that at its time it not only was the best looking game but also could easily have passed as high-end PS2 game.

At it's time it was amazing, I am not questioning that. My comment was that those screens don't look spectacular if it was a HD makeover. Believe me man, I had an import Dreamcast and imported Shenmue just to play it even though I did not understand anything that was being said, I still just loved marveling at it. To me, it was a visually ground breaking game and defined what the Dreamcast was capable of.

To me, to this day, I still think that the Dreamcast was the biggest jump from one generation to the next. It really was an amazing machine and I was heartbroken when it went away.

But if they were to do a HD remake, I would hope it would look a little better than those screen shots. But if it was just that quality or the quality of that video another person posted, I would easily spend $60.00 for Shenmue & Shenmue 2 if it looked like that because I think they were fantastic games.

Xiuying is so dry and dispassionate!

And Ren sounds comical. The Japanese version was a lot better to my foreign ears. I've heard the JP voiceovers weren't great for locals either, but to me the tone of the voices just suited the characters better.

ehhhhh, i dunno. i like english ren almost as much as i like japanese ren. they both kinda did a good job of being a han solo-style rogue

Michael Huber and GameTrailers are trying to organise an interview with Yu Suzuki (thanks Shenmue Dojo). Could be pretty cool for the campaign.

Ro beating up school girls for those that may have missed this side-scene in Shenmue.

lol! People have no idea how satisfying that was, even my gf was shouting "GUUUD!!! SERVE 'EM RIGHT" when it happened. Those girls were bitches all throughout the first half of the game so my friends and I were so happy and satisfied we were able to teach them a lesson and give Mai a short but stern telling-off. Those girls sound so much better in Japanese.

Yeah this was a very rewarding side quest. I loved how you could miss so much if you didn't attempt to connect with everyone. So rewarding

Shenmue is super replayable, but in a different way than most games. It let the player choose how to spend their day, and this could result in either having or missing various encounters. It had a very particular and interesting approach to the passing of time.

The PC adventure game THE LAST EXPRESS has some of the same ideas.

It's one of the few games I can relay beginning to end because of stuff like this.

Agreed, I think the fact folks from the Dojo were still finding new conversations/new tidbits almost 10 years after the initial release really speaks to the fact there is so much content/conversations most players may never see. This video provides a snippet of some of those rare conversations

In Shenmue 2 there's a lot of extra information to be found about Xuixing, Wong, Joy and others. Not to mention a whole side-quest involved with Fang-mei. Really quite amazing.

Not most, and skills aren't all that high yet. Still training a bit and have rushed a tiny bit, but trying to do things like talk to everyone, call Nozomi every night and see her every day, uncover random scenes, etc.

Only reason I'm slightly rushing, is that I want to have the video done within the next two weeks. Hopefully in time for the final KS week!

Do your best because when you increase the skill of certain moves, not only will they evolve to something else, but some of them will be extended and some of them can also change the QTE sequence. For example, the in-famous QTE sequence against the Mad Angels in the warehouse, instead of punching the last guy in the stomach he ends it with a double-palm, almost like an in-development Stun-Palm-of-Doom. Guaranteed to make you go ga-ga.

I noticed this ad while browsing on my phone. This has probably been shared before but I found it kind of cool.

There seem to be different variants of it. I just saw one with blue skies was well.

How about a game of Lucky Guess?

Want to try Lucky Guess?

Whoever gets closest wins!

Seeing as how the most fervent fans of Shenmue are running, supporting and talking about $30 on the 3rd, let's all guess how much of a bump will happen on the third and your justification for that amount.

Closest gets a hand drawn picture of Ryo Hazuki fighting Chai by yours truly. I may or may not have any actual artistic skill, so don't get too excited (or do?)

If I get closest, then all bets are off!

My guess: between $30 on the 3rd and new backer reward tiers (my guess, based on info released by Awesome Japan "Yu Suzuki has heard you and is working on it), updates to the campaign, and assorted other possible announcements (English voices? Physical PS4 tier, other voice actors returning, Sega announcing Shenmue I and II HD ports, etc. who knows!!) my guess is that on the 3rd, the campaign will receive a boost in donations of $174,460

This will be a huge coup for the campaign, resulting in two more days around $70,000 to $90.000 as hundreds or thousands of backers increase their donation from $29 for the digital-only release to a presumable $70 to $150 for different physical PS4 reward options (standard, special edition w/ Shenmue: The Movie cels, art book, whatever), Steelbook with soundtrack and artbook, who the hell knows).

The scientific data I am using to back that up is as rock solid as needing a SuperKyro processor to run Shenmue III at full-specs.

3rd: $174,460 (If no physical PS4 tier, and only other quirky, fan-specific rewards like Lucky Hit boards or Tom Johnson's rasta branded hot dogs or something, then drop this number by $90,900)
4th: $82,657 (if physical PS4 tier)
5th: $71,821 (ditto)

I presume that there will be 563 new backers on the 3rd, with most of the money coming from upgraded donations.

Here's hoping!

Can't wait for Huber to ask him about economics of the game! (I don't mean the budget, Huber is actually really into economic systems of games)

Kickstarter donations are not final until the deadline is hit. No charges will be made to your card before that. You can modify your pledge between making it and it being paid.
Other projects let you make adjustments later and upgrade over time using PayPal but they need to set that up.

Thanks for the info.

This is some gameplay I recorded in 1080p some time ago using NullDC. It looks great uprezzed but things like the sky and trees could maybe do with a little work if they re released it in HD. Widescreen also had problems with disappearing models and textures so I kept it 4:3.

Watching now! I love how clean it looks, Dobuita looks gorgeous.

Are load times improved using the NullDC emu over DC? They look similar.

take it we didn't get an update today then?
Hmm... updates seem to come in at totally unpredictable weird times. I have gotten updates at like 5:30AM PDT which is late at night even in Japan.

Awesome Japan clearly does not abide by conventional business hours. Hard to believe, I know.

take it we didn't get an update today then?

It's 18:20pm here in Japan so I guess we didn't... unless the guys are still working late. There is a possibility that the update won't come until Friday (they better have a good reason for it if that is the case as time cannot be wasted in a KS campaign) but that's just me guessing.

My advice for everyone is to forget about this until the news hits, and continue their efforts to push Awesome Japan to improve the campaign with productive solutions.

ah well.

so long as the community keeps up the good work spreading the word the backer count should still rise. yesterday just about beat the day before it.

if we can still hit roughly 200 per day until the big changes happen, we should be okay.

I think we are close to reaching saturation point in terms of numbers of backers. All the hardcore fans are already onboard and this is a game that would have limited appeal to newcomers. Plus, it has already received a lot of press coverage now so I just don't think there are a whole lot of potential new backers out there. I'm changing my prediction from $5m+ to $4m-$4.5,

i wouldn't be so sure of that yet. i think there are a lot more potential backers out there, fans and non-fans alike, and we've yet to see how the media blitz at the end is going to affect things.

Nah. This is still definitely getting 5 million+.

The real question is if it gets over 6 million...
