UNCHARTED 4: A Thief’s End - E3 2015 - Sam Pursuit Gameplay [HQ now available]

correct me if i'm wrong but the game itself was codenamed dude raider during development.

Yes, but that doesnt mean their gameplay is similar.

Also, is there a kind soul here that can make me an avatar from this higher quality footage? I got this from what leaked at E3 and its not the best quality.

Without a chart or graph,it's hard to believe this.

We're done here.

Hmm, How impressed are you?

I need a graph ;).

Urghh fine, this is a graph of my excitement level during the 15 minute video.

IS THIS ALL I'M KNOWN FOR NOW! IS THIS WHAT I'VE BECOME!

It was, by people who hadn't played the game and were dismissive of how different it could be. The same way some were quick to call Last of Us Uncharted with Zombies. But the reality was it was less like Tomb Raider and more like Gears meets platforming. It's actually the Tomb Raider reboot that plays more like Uncharted now, than the other way around. I think this post covers it well.

I always found it funny that people say Uncharted aped Tomb Raider. Thematically, yes to a certain extent. It takes just as many inspirations from Indiana Jones as well. Gameplay wise? They never played anything alike until Tomb Raider rebooted to become like Uncharted.

Uncharted played like Gears of War mixed in with some lite platforming and puzzles sprinkled around. Tomb Raider was all about precision platforming, had no cover system with lite shooting and was more about puzzle solving.

Gaming is all about taking ideas from others and refining them, but Tomb Raider was just at another level of taking inspiration from elsewhere. Not a second went by while playing that game where I wasn't thinking how its a more open Uncharted.

Best wishes.

No.

Dude Raider was an internet nickname when Naughty Dog originally showed off Uncharted at E3 without a title. ND already settled on the Uncharted title at the time, but Phil Harrison found out about it and told ND not to use the title during E3 (thinking that the title Uncharted implies "won't get to sales charts".) ND never acknowledged the Dude Raider name.

Its the last part that got me really hooked.I can't wait for the story and character interactions in this game.

They just keep getting better at this.Sam and Drake is more interesting than "villain baddy brother"

Bring back Eddy Raja!
but he's dead. and a villain.

You are wrong on that. That was what the gaming community called it.
okay, I wasn't aware that it was a nickname from the community. Thanks for the info, btw.

actually they did.

GOTY, we all know it. Denial is like cheating ourselves of the truth....

MP until release please...no more story spoilers until a release trailer.

I said god dayum....... need that gamersyde footage pronto!!!!!!

Ever since Uncharted 2 I have been saying the same thing to myself - 'its crazy how good Naughty Dog games look' - not an original thought I grant you but its the only one that my feeble mind can handle when the Dogs bring a new game.

I also think 'what would my 8 year old ZX Spectrum playing mind think if I showed him a Naughty Dog HD game' but I fear it would kill him and therefore I wouldn't exist to ask the hypothetical question so I give it up and lie down.

Damn. More impressive than the graphics and physics is just how dynamic and fun this setpiece looks. The pacing is incredible.

In 15 minutes you go from: Brief market walking and vista for context ---> shootout/APC evasion on foot in crowded market ---> jeep APC evasion/windy pathfinding ---> rope sliding ---> shootout on the moving truck ---> back to jeep driving this time with multiple enemies around you ---> scripted moment getting out of burning jeep and taking out those guys ---> riding on the back of the motorcycle while shooting the pursuing APC --> story cutscene. So good.

By the way, what's Uncharted 4's main competition next year? Mass Effect Andromeda? I know Horizon, Quantum Break, The Division and Deus Ex are next year but I doubt they would come anywhere near close to this level. I feel as though if it had come out this year, it would be fighting for that spot with Witcher 3, Bloodborne and Fallout 4 eating up all that mind share.

Best wishes.

Holy crap, that was incredible!!

Super minor nitpick. A lot of games have been doing the X reticle to confirm hits. I don't think that works well. I always like that the X only shows to confirm the kill. Max Payne 3 does this. Just personal preference though.

That's hefty competition and I'm not even big fan of those series. Also FFXV and Legend of Zelda. Next year is crazy.

Yeah, the reticle seems a tad too visually busy, but it might feel less intrusive while actually playing it.

Just watched in on Youtube and holy shit! Perhaps one of the best demos I've ever watched. The game looked straight up pre-rendered CGI in several moments. The second half of the video was mindblowingly awesome. But that look on
Elena's face in the end. I feel sorry for her.

Ehh...if most of the games scheduled for next year land on time and deliver, Uncharted has some real competition for that title no matter how you slice it.

Great trailer. My only quibble is when Drake is driving the Jeep (chasing his brother on the bike and being pursued by bandits on bikes), the Jeep's wheels do not interact with the water that he is driving through (about the 9.20 mark). Would have been nice to see some "splash/spay" effects here. Hopefully this sort of effect can be added now that they have that extra time between frames.
Thought the flame effects in the turned over jeep and in other scenes was the best i've seen in a console game.

I don't know man. I haven't seen in entire game genre (including PC) that outdid what I've seen in U4.

Out of those i'd guess Horizon and Mass Effect.

There's Gear of War 4.

I think that will be the biggest exclusive game of the direct competitor platform.

Mass Effect really is going to have to step it up massively. Personally I am way more hyped for FFXV than that game.

Huh? Still not impressed? Here you go

I believe that this will not be just a move forward sequence. If my eyes don't deceive me, it seems like we also move his arm with the stick when he grabs the handle in that final push.

The arm moves in a weird, not pre animated, way.

While the game play is essentially the same in this chase sequence(on rails shooting), the graphics, physics and realism have been enhanced that it feels far more entertaining.

Even the first half of the demo showcases a new mechanic, that is driving vehicles, which never existed in the previous games. We had on the rails shooting guns from vehicles, or manning turret type segments, but never any actual free control driving.

Uncharted 1 had the jet ski part.

It is interesting too see just how far these chase set pieces have come from the first games.

I swear all the people working at the naughty dog must have some sort of obsessive compulsive behavior problem. The attention to detail is just insane.

Is that sand/water coming out of his Holster ? And do you notice that his weapon is only muddy where the Holster did not cover the pistol ?

You have to play the whole game in slowmotion to notice every Detail.

Holy crap, you're right on both accounts. Again, insane attention to detail lol.
