UNCHARTED 4: A Thief’s End - E3 2015 - Sam Pursuit Gameplay [HQ now available]

Indiana Jones version seems so uneventful and less exciting in comparison lol.

I just love that they found a way to dramatically evolve set pieces they've done before.

Indeed. This is ND evolving set pieces into much more impressive and interactive sequences. On top of the more open ended gameplay the game seems to offer.

I don't get this gif, the truck hit the container and suddenly re-appear immediately, how did it catch up to them, something I'm missing. Maybe it's the hour.

I noticed the same thing at first, and it still looks a bit off, but the truck hits the door on the left (our left) and seems to make a sharp turn to its right to keep on track.

Looks like it catches it left of center, and just demolishes the side of the container without slowing down too much. It looks like it would hit dead on initially but moves over near the contact point.

It swerved to its right and glanced the door of the shipping container causing it to slam shut

This is confusing for me. I never played Uncharted but to me it seems like you have so little control or else this is really next gen stuff.
To me it feels like some sort of on rail shooter (like time crisis, etc) but with a little bit of extra control.
Like you suddenly see a reticle to shoot then it goes back to the action then you get the control back for a few seconds and so the whole time through along with some qte and that's it. Are the previous Uncharted balanced games?
Or does it feel like you move from one setpiece till the next with a few sections where you run a little?
If it is a realtime (I mean where you have the control most of the time) then this is going to be a impressive game if not it loses a lot of its appeal to me.

This is one of the setpieces that UC is known for. There's plenty of regular control outside of this. They can't make a 10-12 hour game consisting entirely of super scripted moments otherwise the game would take 6 years to build.

I'm at a loss of words to describe this. And I didn't even watch it till the end. Nope. I want to be surprised. But I do have one thing to say, that looks AMAZING and leagues better than anything I've seen so far in gaming. The end.

Oh, and the mud, and the jeep hitting the barracs/houses/whatever the f that was... NOW I BELIEVE THIS MOTORSTORM IS POSSIBLE

Same two sequences I cited in a post in the other thread:
This is just an evolution of the stuff they've been doing in the other games. It's taking the core gameplay mechanics they setup singularly and in smaller scale during "regular" gameplay, and put them together in an expertly staged and escalating setpiece sequence. You have third person cover shooter and traversal. You have jeep driving (evolution of the train level from Uncharted 2, and the horse riding from Uncharted 3, where now you are in control and have multiple paths). You add the use of the rope. You climb up the rope and can shoot from the rope. You have traversal from vehicle to vehicle (this is an evolution of the vehicle sequences towards the end of Uncharted 2). You have more jeep driving. All core gameplay mechanics.

Then you jump on the motorcycle and this is really the only part of the entire demo where you have little control, just shooting, but this represents an astronomical evolution of this sequence from Uncharted 2, which took place in one alley and lasted about 30 seconds:

Looked incredible to me.

Yea watching it again and you are right guys, now it makes sense.

I know I'm a little slow at the moment but it just hit me that this looks like the MotorStorm reveal CGI trailer, they actually achieved that fidelity, so a MotorStorm game can actually look like the original reveal trailer today... holy shit! Evolution got to do it!

From that new developer? I don't know if it will be anywhere near Uncharted 4, let alone Quantum Break given what they've shown at E3.

Compared to this years competition in Batman, Witcher, Bloodborne and Fallout 4, next year seems a lot less threatening to Uncharted 4 imo. The only big competition I see is Mass Effect, (given Horizon and Quantum Break being new IPs, they could go either way) and I guess Zelda if its on a new platform.

Best wishes.

If that gameplay demo was anything to go by I doubt it. Both of Microsofts flagships look mediocre

Well, i didn't want to say that =P

But i agree that Halo and Gears aren't looking so hot right now. But i thought that, not being a big fan of both series i was the problem.

But at the end of the day, i'm almost sure that Gears 4 will be the flagship game for XB1 next year.

Well a company has been able to bridge CGI graphics of the past into real time gameplay in present day consoles. It is truly amazing how far this company has come from making crash to uncharted 4.

Wow those gifs are awesome. I did not get to play any Uncharted games, good thing the collection edition is coming out.

I love how they're holding onto the truck and their bodies are flopping around until they are thrown off.

The Remaster Collection, followed by an early(ish) 2016 release please. I'm ready to binge out on Uncharted.

Remember 6 months ago when some people were complaining about this game graphics? fun times.

It was crazy that people were thinking that ND not going to be up there or at the top when it comes to GFX.
As soon as i heard at PSX it was 30fps i knew this game would look fucking amazing .

I guess it's hard to understand if you've never played an Uncharted game before, but you are probably severely underestimating exactly how much you are in control in the demo. This whole sequence represents taking the core gameplay mechanics from the regular moment to moment game and putting it all together in a crazy, escalating set piece.

Take this gif for example:

What you see is Nate holding onto a rope, being dragged through the mud and shooting a vehicle, then climbing up the rope. This is core mechanics. You watch any interview with the devs and they will keep using this phrase, for good reason. The rope is a regular tool at your disposal during normal traversal in the game, as seen here from another demo:

Now imagine you are encounter a cliff face that can only be climbed by throwing your rope up it. You are climbing the rope, and suddenly some enemies pop their heads over the top of the cliff and start shooting at you. You press L2 to aim and R2 to start shooting at them, mid climb. This is exactly what is happening in the first gif. Presumably you are pushing forward to pull yourself up the rope towards the jeep. The reticule appears because you press L2 to aim, and you shoot the other vehicles and drivers. The reticule disappears because you release L2. You then continue clambering up the rope until you can pull yourself up the vehicle. Even though your character is being dragged through the mud, you are still in control of what you are doing.

It's core mechanics, and you can extrapolate like this for pretty much every moment of the entire 15 minute demo.

Looks awesome, but I really don't want to see anymore of the game. I don't want what happened to me with Uncharted 3 to happen with 4. They revealed most of the best set pieces prior to the game coming out and I saw them all. Definitely don't want that happening this time.

I think they're doing a good job of avoiding a U3 situation. Just think of it like this, they've yet to show a single story trailer for the game. There's just two gameplay sequences. That's it. The E3 demo was so impressive that people forget that they didn't actually release a trailer for the game. So if anything it shows that they're being very cautious about what they show.

Yeah I definitely hope they keep going in this direction. :)

I hope the game is fairly long, though I don't think it will be because of all the time and effort required to pull of segments like this.

Uncharted 2 took me a good 14 or so hours the first time, and was much better for it. Felt like I'd been on a genuinely epic and vast adventure by the end of it. The others clocked in about 2-4 hours shorter for me, and just didn't leave as much of a lasting impression. They didn't seem quite as globe trotting, nor did they make as good use of the different locales, especially in connection to each other. The Last of Us corrected this, really bringing a sense of purpose and life to all the locations, hope Uncharted 4 does the same.

A good chance, based on their interview 'We can say that it's the biggest Uncharted yet'

I suppose they have more time this go around to make extra content too.

What are the chances we don't see a downgrade in the full game? I mean I know Naughty Dogs are practically wizards when it came to put their games on PS3 but I mean daaaamn. With all the destruction happening and the debris flying from one side to the other, how will they stabilize it at 30fps? It's crazy. That goes to say that there will also be a major difference between the SP and MP if they actually intend on bringing 60fps into multiplayer.

Yeah this demo really shows a lot of the hallmarks from TLoU and UC2. Like showing the tower in the distance that they have to get to and having it visible while driving down the hill reminded me a lot of going to the school from the church in TLoU.
Reminds you of just how far you have gone and how much is still ahead of you, pretty compelling subconsciously.

So far they seem to be crafting a really good image of what UC4 will be, props to the team for having a clear vision of that right now.

To add onto this "QTE" events are consistant to, if your character punches it's square, if they're getting out of a grapple it's triangle this is why on the hardest difficulty (crushing) the prompts dissapear.

This is absolutely nuts. So much of the environment is meticulously crafted but you'll only see it for half a second.

God damn. I didn't want to watch but that was seriously impressive. Definitely going on complete blackout after that - I don't need to see anymore.

ND already had my complete faith after The Last of Us, it's just incredible to see what they're able to accomplish with the newer hardware.

This footage isn't stable already?

Uncharted 2 almost took me too long. If it's akin to its length then it's all good. Also, Uncharted 2 requiered a lot of work at the time, specially with the PS3 architecture, so I think ND can manage a decent lenght with UC4.

While Drake is dragged through the mud I saw that rocks are occasionally littered throughout. I'm just spitballing but I wonder if Drake will cop damage if he was dragged over the rocks.

Nice pickup, I'd assume from previous history in the series that would be the case.

Simply mindblowing how good this looks.

Btw, are those wires inside the upside down car reacting to Drake's movement? Thats crazy if so. Not sure why I am surprised though after watching that video that detailed the E3 demo...

Yeah, they get pushed by his gun. Insane.
