UNCHARTED 4: A Thief’s End - E3 2015 - Sam Pursuit Gameplay [HQ now available]

The frightening thing about this game is that this isnt even the final build, I wonder what the IQ will look like come December/January.

Nah, not worth it in my opinion. The amount of hype and acclaim generated from showing the whole demo live in front of millions (didn't more than 30 million people watch E3 live this year?) would've eclipsed the format they settled with. It didn't help that the press essentially spoiled what happened in the second half as well, whereas going in completely blind would've had that much more effect.

Frankly, IMO Huber Trailer™ got me more pumped for this footage, and kept me hyped up for weeks.

Maybe. I could buy into that.

most people are already blown away by the first half of the demo, they already got a lot of hype and acclaim from showing the first demo. if they show all of the demo at once, you don't get to appreciate the feeling of watching the extended demo.

with the current approach, you got your mind blown twice instead of once. I'd say Sony play their card masterfully.

HQ screenshot have to be down sample from higher res right?
That one's native res. There's a mixture of native res and supersampled screenshots in the E3 batch.

Here's another YouTube/HQ SS comparison.

Hair's physics-driven so playing through the same cutscene you'll get slightly different positioning on that. Lighting and ambient occlusion have been tweaked between the gameplay demo and screenshots.

Part of me was kind of hoping they'd tone down the set piece/action piece formula for a more open do what you want approach.

That's what they showed in the first gameplay demo. That was an open-ish action playground with nothing particularly spectacular going on. This is the opposite. Linear, guided, spectacular setpiece action. An Uncharted game should have both, so I'm happy!

Naughty Gods making the PS4 wax poetic. Sony is lucky to have them, but more importantly we as gamers are lucky to have such a developer.

On another note, man Sully is looking old :/ I'm not sure if this will be the last Uncharted, but I don't think he'll be in another game in any type of explorative/combative narrative
(he'll probably follow the hose.)

YouTube vs HQ Screenshot quality

YouTube seriously has shockingly bad quality. Shame basically all gaming outlets and publishers use it as the defacto way to promote their games. Gamersyde seriously deserves more love.

that's just the way the character has developed though. Nate was clearly suposed to be out of the treasure game and elena moved to that stage in their relationship while he couldn't. she obviously had broke it off for those reasons in U3 but gave him another chance. i'd assume he's on very thin ice right now in terms of their relationship. as a result she can't really be anything but concerned. she wants a normal life. and nate isn't providing that. she is the concerned and dissapointed wife by this point. for her to have a jarring character reversal and be all game for adventure again would be weird.

And I'm saying I'm disappointed in that. I shouldn't go into UC4 questioning how Nate's going to convince Elena or go behind her back to go on an adventure in this pulp action adventure game.

Yeah, i watched the first half from gamersyde during E3 and was blown away. Yesterday i watched the extended demo on youtube and was like "what the fuck is that blurry shit".

I think i checked 5 times that it was really in 1080p.

I only really felt that happened in Uncharted 3, even then she was in Yemen working so she was still independent, and not afraid of danger. Her concern was Nate's obsession and how that was going to effect him, and the people she cared about. It was his motives she was questioning, which is totally understandable to me.

In Uncharted 2 she was in Nepal following Lesarevic herself and just happened to see Nate there. So she was actively putting herself in danger. In the village after the train crash, she actually had to convince Nate to carry on when he wanted to quit, because she saw how important it was and insisted on going to the monastery with him. She was definitely not in a concerned role in Uncharted 2, she was more into it that Nate was.

Your comparisons just made me even more anxious for the Gamersyde video. So much detail lost in that Youtube screen capture.

I'm just blown away by the action and all the details! There is so much going on (on the screen), love it.

Yeah, when you compare this set piece with the two from Uncharted 2 that this has clearly evolved from, the difference is staggering in terms of detail and stuff on screen.

Admittedly, UC3 set pieces had more going on, but the amount of shit going on here is ridiculous.

Elena better not be stuck in some thankless "concerned/disappointed wife/girlfriend" stereotype this time around

I'm questioning if some people even touched the games over the past few years.

Maybe you should youtube the games as a refresher?

Yes Elena showed concern, as did every single character in the games, but that wasn't her role in the games at all, you would see that even if you skipped every single cutscene, she was a character with her own motivations, The only person you should be concerned about lacking Agency would be Sully.

& just before someone else that hasn't played the game in a century shows up, here are a few cutscenes:

So sell your xb1.

jk, it's definitely worth owning both if your wallet can handle it. Great exclusives on both sides.
I disagree..The libraries are too identical and majority of the exclusives are not longevity games you play over and over again. I always just pick one console and borrow friends units for some interesting gems I want to play.

Xbox is for Halo, Forza, Gears. If you're not interested in those, or have even a slight interest in Japanese flavored games on console, I'd say you'll have a better time on other platforms. Exclusive output it really is a western focused machine.

For me, I'm kinda done with those franchises and just want to play Scalebound and maybe the Megaman's dude game. So just going to borrow from a friend or get one for like some crazy deal $250 or something.

I'd add this one too,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfA...been a strong character with her own motives.

why not? in this situation there are only a certain amount of outcomes that can happen...but we don't know how it's going to pan out. elena might just flatout leave drake in this scene and never be seen in the rest of the game? just becasue she is rightfully a concerned character doesnt mean we know how things will go with them. but it's highly unlikly she's just going to grab her coat and be all excited about another adventure given the dangers they've both been through in the past games. what you want a character to be has very little relevance in a discussion about what a character is. if you've played the past games you have clearly seen this coming. it's just how the character is. want something different? play something different!

They talked about it at PSX how Drake's shirt was affected by wind but it's cool seeing it turned up to 11, and it happens throughout the whole demo when he's driving as well.

Being a strong woman doesn't mean you can't love or be hurt by someone. She let her guard down for him, so if he's now pissing around and basically lying to her, obviously she's going to be upset.

You can see a lot of aliasing, so no.

Agreed. People think of the "strong woman" archetype in overly one dimensional terms.

Off on that tangent, Drake never struck me as the kind of guy that could settle down and live a normal life. He seems like too much of a crazy thrill seeker. Is Elena enough for him to quit? Based on this cut scene snippet, maybe not. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

I'd add this one too,

I understand the concern in Uncharted 4, we don't know what her full role is yet. Personally I agree with you that she has always been a strong character with her own motives.

You didn't timestamp that video.

& Yeah, I understand if people are concerned with her role in UC4, but Naughty Dog are the last studio I'd think about when thinking of questionable writing for female characters. They proved that for 4 consecutive games.

Sony recently released some sweet HQ-video-goodness on their press-server. Nearly 2GB a file, I guess it will hit Gamersyde soon. Prepare your browsers for a lot of gifs, webms and screenshots! Good stuff there!
