I'm just catching up now. Those new rewards are amazing, and a physical PS4 version?!? SENSORY OVERLOAD! SEND HELP!

we live in a world where last year more people were hype for a rocket racoon flick than spider-man
now shenmoo gets done right, zero escape, nier 2

somebody clearly fucked with the timestream and i couldn't be happier

You better believe it

We and my best friend purposely failed that mission again and again as the time kept moving forward with every retry tosee about about the supposed bad ending back in the day (15 years ago give or take), since Shenmue had a time limit for you to beat the game, but you essentially have to be pretty horrible as the game gives you ton of time. We were surprised Lan Di did come back and essentially killed Ryo.

We heard the guard say, "Must be the wind" so many damn times missing the flashlight QTE!

5 more hours of 'today' on kicktraq. 245k raised, over 870 new backers. amazing how much life came with the new tiers and the ps4 physical version.

The reward tier note for the dinner in LA (June next year) seems to point towards Yu Suzuki coming back for E3 - perhaps there'll be something to show (hmm)

I'm seriously in shock. I wanna take a screen-grab of this thread, the one saying a physical PS4 version of Shenmue III has been announced and the Zero Escape 3 announced thread, print it, frame it, stick it on my wall and worship it everyday for the rest of my life.

Have they said anything at all about a Steam or GOG release of the PC version? I don't want some half-assed Digital River release and I'm weirded out that the campaign page doesn't spell it out.

Its Just ridiculous how there are like a million good things to report on the KS campaign , and Kotaku picks the placeholder boxart of all things to write an article on?

They do this with the fighting game community all the time. I don't give them my clicks and don't visit their site as a personal choice thing ever since a few years ago.

I'd be very surprised if it beats Bloodstained.
I could see it.

Two weeks left, got a shot in the arm today and will likely still feel the effects with more pledges over the next couple days up until the last 48 hours with a typical big boost. I can see it surprassing $5.5 million in that time.

I truly believe we will get the full Shenmue experience should the KS campaign not reach the 11 million (and let's face it, it won't). There is no reason they won't look for more investors after the campaign, and of course they will add a paypal option. Once they have an up and running demo they can show, that should help bring in more funds. I also wouldn't be surprised to see the game get delayed. And if it's a financial success, I imagine YS would want to expand the game with some DLC. He has a clear vision of this game and I'm sure the team will do everything they can to let YS realize it.

they're considering DRM-free (supposedly through GOG)

as for steam, it's very, very, very likely that'll be where the pc version will be but they probably can't confirm it because they'll have to go through greenlight first as a new developer.

Has there been an official comment about Greenlight? Or about GOG, for that matter. I just want some confirmation that they're looking into real distribution solutions. I mean, there's literally no way this wouldn't be successful on Greenlight.

no, but i cannot imagine this wouldn't be on steam. the PC version is being handled by the co-producer cedric biscay's company shibuya productions, so it's unlikely to be a japanese pc port botch job.

actually, i'll ask cedric about it now. he's usually very open to replying to tweets.

Really? Fucking really? They finally give backers & interested backers something they been asking for since this ks started. And all this dude can focuses on is the mock up cover? How fucking stupid.

Not only did he criticize the box art unnecessarily but he linked to the article putting the supposed shadiness of the Sony involvement to this, just to keep that story in the public narrative. It really feels like the games journalism industry is actively working to sabotage this game.

We should organize an anti Kotaku campaign. As much negative press as possible. See how it feels when the tables are turned

They're not actively working at all. That's the problem. Laziness.

This person doesn't know anything about Shenmue, doesn't understand Kickstarter, or the the specifics of this game. But, because it's the weekend and the real writers aren't there today... he's turning out some clickbait to feed the Gawker beast.

Nope. Getting in a pissing war with Gawker blogs is a mistake and waste of time.

Positivity, gentle correction, and pointing towards the truth. That's the solution.

jason put the guy in his place. no point in a campaign against them.

and honestly, i don't think a guy like that will last very long on a freelance basis.

intentionally trying to rile a fanbase for no good reason? not good journalism, and honestly could considerably fuck with the image of the 'new' kotaku as a much better outlet for that stuff.

So the game is past 250k for the day. That is phenomenal. It probably worked in their favor to drop the PS4 physical copy now rather than earlier. Having a bump mid campaign is always exciting. And the day is still not over. We have the twitter Q&A later. So this will more than likely end as the 3rd best day for this KS. Let's hope they can ride this momentum over the next 2 weeks.

One idiot doesn't change anything. Keep posting positivity about the campaign today, react to any stupid crap if you really have to tomorrow. Push, push, push!

Today, two friends pledged for the $60 PS4 physical tier. They've been waiting since day one for this. Fantastic how such small things can invigorate the campaign and hopefully take us to greater heights.

While I think that it's an exaggeration to think that games journalism at large is up to that, I do get the impression that some game journalists have taken that course.

I'm at the beach but just spent a few mins getting caught up on everything. To be clear, all of Kotaku is off today, and we've got a guest freelancer running the site, so posts aren't going through the regular editorial process. As you guys saw, I expressed my feelings in the comments.

It shows.

I love you Jason. You're a hero.

I have to say, my level of respect for Kotaku had been rising for the last year. Never actually hated the site or anything, but your pal Phil Owen is doing a remarkable job at sabotaging the integrity Kotaku has been building.

Granted, I'm a massive Shenmue fan, but I've also had history in game journalism, testing, development, and documentary work. Posts like Phil's belong in in forums without moderation.

Can I be a guest freelancer running the site? Your current freelancer is a DICK. Do you pay these freelancers for the amount of clicks they can generate, or the amount of DICKS they can smack in their face? I'd want none of that form of payment.

If I remember correctly wasn't one of the guys running the vegetable store in Dobuita drunk most of the time? Or maybe he just sounded like that to me...
