Look at that photo. Just look at it. That’s Marvel Zombies artist Arthur Suydam’s area at Montreal Comiccon. What you can’t see are Dan Parent, Rachel Richey, and Francis Manapul‘s tables. That’s because Suydam decided to get there early, set up four tables, three of which were designated for them, and move their name tags.

In other words, he swiped their tables, forcing them to find new ones. Which, from what I’m reading on Twitter, isn’t an unheard of thing for him to do, but this time it’s getting others to speak out. Creators Jim Zub, Tony Lee, Erik Larsen, Mark Waid, Ron Marz, Francesco Francavilla, and many, many others have been calling him out on social media, and rightly so, as that’s the only way to stop this behavior. But what of the convention organizers? How did they let this happen?

From what I’m hearing it happens a lot. It appears that the organizers may have said something, though it appears that he has kept the massive booth anyway. At least with all of this outcry he’ll hopefully not be able to do it again. Francavilla called it bullying, and that’s exactly what it is.

Is this something you can do in these cons? Pretty scummy regardless.

Swipe my table if old.

Why would the organisers not do something about it other than asking him politely to stop? I'd have him kicked out if he didn't move.

You would think that the organizers would basically tell him no, remove the stuff from the tables that didn't belong to him and maybe even kick him out for this crap.

To do nothing, wtf.

What's stopping the other to just... I dont know, take down his crap and put up their where they belong?

As someone who has sold stuff at cons, yeah, that is pure dickery. Con organizers must be complete pushovers to allow this shit.

That is what i was thinking, why don't the others just go to the tables that are theirs & throw his stuff off them, that is what i would do.

Francis Manapul could just draw Batman sketches in front of the motherfucker and no one would even see those 4 tables.

Looking at the picture of the booth, the guy basically takes famous photos and puts zombies in them? Seriously?

Yeah why the hell didn't organisers step in?
If you have a table reserved, either by attendance request, getting paid for it or paying for it yourself then it's rightfully yours.

I'd have spoken to organisers with proof of my belonging there.

I was expecting this to be Greg Land for some reason.

And that photoshopped line is perfect for our own photoshops. Can some one put Abraham Lincoln and Redd Foxx in the line.

Heh, Wikipedia has already been updated to reflect this:

He's pretty talented when he tries but yes, his more recent body of work has included a lot of lazy stuff like that. He's also responsible for this infamous Wolverine cover:

Thanks for helping me imagine Greg Land characters in that line lol.

I've never been to a convention where preregistered tables could just be taken over like that without permission. And the staff at every one of those cons would've marched up to him and said, "Move your shit, or you're out the door."

Probably doing what the allies did before World War II. You'll see when he fakes an attack on his table and then conquer his neighbour tables with the goals of uniting all tables of the entire convention into his territory.

I'm not confrontational, and I would have pushed all of his shit off one table onto the floor. It's not his table anyways so he'd have no right to complain.

Kinda taken back that the artists nor event organizers didn't either rip his shit off the table or kick him out.

Um, I don't get why this guy needs 4 convention tables to sell a bunch of posters.

As for stealing tables, it's pretty shitty that the con let him get away with it. They probably view him as a crowd draw, and just found other tables for the three artists instead of kicking him out.

That is very scummy of him and awful of the convention organizers to let him get away with it. Artist tables are hard enough to get at large conventions and this will turn off artists from getting tables there in the future.
