The dude photoshop people into his line to make it look longer.

Hahahaha

He's pretty talented when he tries but yes, his more recent body of work has included a lot of lazy stuff like that. He's also responsible for this infamous Wolverine cover:

omg it is him?

A GAF legend!

So why haven't the con staff taken the extra tables away?

Doing it in the first place was bad enough, but getting away with it even after it's been called out is infuriating.

Suydam’s immense body of written and illustrative work comprises an aesthetic that is as uniquely distinguishable as it is organic and poetic.
An artist with diverse passions, Suydam has a rare ability to attune himself to the feel and flavor of any area of art, style, history and character. His settings are as beautiful and as haunting as his stories are tender and twisted. The techniques he has honed over the decades breathe a life and magnetism into his characters. Genius tempered with technique—herein lies the magic of Arthur Suydam.

Art.

That's...odd.

Vendors pay for each table they use, so was he able to just grab 4 tables for the price of 1? And the organizers did nothing?

How did the other 3 just walk away and find some other place to set up? I would have refused and started moving his junk out of the way...

I don't know what's more hilarious - that pic or the "About The Artist" section of his website.

"Award winning creator and Marvel artist Arthur Suydam’s meteoric rise to superstardom for his work for the smash hit series Marvel Zombies broke graphic novel records, immediately placing the artist in the category of comic legend."

I've been collecting comics for 40 years now. Admittedly, I dropped out for the last twenty years or so but I try to stay at least somewhat versed in the goings-on of comics. I can name tons of current comic artists.

I have never heard his name before.

...and I should add, I READ MARVEL ZOMBIES. I never cared enough about the art to look and see who the artist was.

'Nuff said.

In one day this dude is going to topple Rob Liefeld as real life comic super villain. Not that Rob ever deserved that.

Remember when that guy tried to go internet tough guy on Rob at a convention? And Rob shut him down with a quickness by being a decent human being?

That's the thing with Liefeld. People seem to genuinely like the guy. Even some of his former business partners that he screwed over at Image came back around and are friends with him again. He just seems really damn nice.

Yeah Marvel who signs his paychecks and raised his prominence.

If he steals IP like he steals tables, you're going to blame DC and Image?

What?

I stood in line to meet Rob at Wizard World Chicago in 2004. Maybe 2003. There was like 5 people in front of me and three of them were there to tell Rob he ruined comics. He just smiled and said thanks. I was so fucking embarrassed. I loved his art when I was a kid, can't say I like it now, but he was a kid himself living the dream. I've met him a few times and hes always been super nice.

What are you talking about?

What?

Cause he looks like a adult leave it to beaver, you just want to ruffle his hair and say "Aww shucks"

That is some sad shit, some folks take shit too far. You don't have to like his work but folks can be so petty.

I always liked Liefeld's energy and enthusiasm, he seemed to genuinely love what he was doing, complete lack of technical skills and talent aside

Why would the organisers not do something about it other than asking him politely to stop? I'd have him kicked out if he didn't move.

Yeah. I don't understand why this wasn't fixed immediately. Tell him to fuck off and give the right people the tables they were supposed to have.

It seems like a relatively easy fix.

Liefeld's pleasant enough most of the time, but look at what he says whenever he switches allegiances between Marvel and DC. Every time it happens he goes off on a tantrum about how whichever one he's leaving has it out for him.

Who cares? It gets people talking. He was very young when he achieved super stardom. How many comic artists have a jeans commercial? It's going to change you.

I'm no fan of Liefeld, but:

I don't understand why the other people for the two tables he stole didn't just remove his stuff and set up in their areas. If that escalated, staff should be asked to step in and make sure everyone gets their assigned table. How did that not happen.

Why wouldn't the organizers have stopped this? Move his stuff or get out. Those aren't his tables to take.

Who would do that to a guy that is super nice to fans? Like from all the stories I have heard he always seems really nice to people.

I don't care if he's an ass to other creators.

Go to your part of the booth, set up, and all the shit that is in your side thats his, give it away free with a purchase of your stuff. Sounds fair to me. I'd just take my damn table/space back. He's a comic artist not a MMA fighter, good chance he will bitch out/ you can take him lol.

I'm just saying this has nothing to do with Marvel and everything to do with Suydam behaving like a jerk.

Poe's law and all that but if the person I replied to was serious with the Marvel kneejerk, it's neither here nor there.

Liefeld is a pretty easy target for any number of reasons but he seems very passionate and nice. I cant hate him.

Because he might be one of that con's bigger draws. If they're afraid of losing talent (and thus irritating customers) - they might not want to deal with it.

What's stopping the other to just... I dont know, take down his crap and put up their where they belong?

Seriously, this. I'd take all his shit down if it was on a table or area that was mine and get his ass kicked out. Fuck this guy.

Slight update:
It seems the organizers wanted to avoid any kind of conflict and gave the others another booth:

@Rachelpeabody: So me, @FrancisManapul and @parentdaniel are at an expanded booth at 3206, 3208, 3210, 3212!!! Come and say hi!

Cue some other people complaining they were expelled from their nice, expanded booth.

Wait - why is everyone, including the 3 artists and the organizers, so passive aggressive?

They didn't do anything about it, just complained a little and asked him to please don't do that again next time?

Bitches love smiley faces
What a dick.

If they didn't shrink his booth down, I hope the organizers at least charged him for the extra space. At the very least, make him pay for the space he stole.
