Fighting Games Weekly | June 29 - Jul 5 | Frauds Among U.S.

I was wondering why I always felt my game with SFIV always felt a little off compared to other SF. Not going for guaranteed links seems to be a big one for me.
 
I'm really going to miss this. I play Evil Ryu and Yun and I'm always rapid firing jabs for easy confirms. But I think I can adjust pretty easily because I've already come to accept the fact that this will be home in SFV.

You can still do those (I'm just not sure about linking from crouch short into full combo yet). I just think it's going to be best if players try to break away from too many lights to confirm. We've seen what happened to SFXT when a good amount of people failed to properly confirm. We might not be getting timeouts constantly this time, but it's still missing out on big damage.

I wanted to see if cr. short x2 into super was a thing but I didn't use Ryu yesterday. I'm not going today or tomorrow to AX either, but it doesn't matter. Evo and beta is this month anyway.
 
Birdie, Cammy and to a lesser extent Bison had a lot of damage (and full combo) from crouch jab.

It's Ryu specifically that has made jabs and shorts look kinda bad.

If Yun make the cut, he'll probably still be able to confirm with jabs using his 3s target combo.
 
While it's going to be different for other characters, I didn't really feel like using EX meter for Ryu. Super damage being so high just made me want to save it. EX Hadouken wasn't something I went for outside of a round kill. I have V Trigger anyways for stronger fireballs. MP DP was good for AAing already and it's not like EX DP is needed to avoid chip situations.

I doubt they'll tone down supers though to make EX moves more used for some characters. There's no ultras, so I'm sure Capcom would want these to be used frequently.

Ryu's st. LK seems really good actually.

Speaking of which, I can't fake fireball with this one lol. Since there's no close/far normals, it's just old close short.

One of my co-workers worked at SNK, and while he was telling me about when they had SGI workstations, I asked "... wait, were you working the Hyper NG 64?" and he said yeah. He also worked on Killer7 at Grasshopper, and said that working at GHM was hellish. Clearly, I will be interviewing this person at some point.

Craziest story: the sprite editor used by artists for a number of SNK fighting games was written for the Neo-Geo, and uses the Neo-Geo as the interface. As in, you would use the joystick and the buttons to draw the sprite.He didn't believe this when he started there, until one of the higher ups showed him by firing up one of the machines and drawing a kickass sprite of Robert Garcia in like 10 minutes.

Yes but it's pretty much a one hit confirm instead of two. Jab doesn't have enough hit stun to link into anything. But you can special cancel from chains in SFV so it still works, you just need good reactions. I doubt 3 jabs into DP will work most of the time because of the push off.
 
I'd be surprised if the three jabs into DP works accurately most of the time, even with Ken's fierce DP in Ultra you want to Kara it for 100% surety.

I hope the new characters for SFV are interesting. The only new ones I really liked from IV were Hakan and Juri. Viper is a marvel character, Abel is boring as shit, Rufus is a dive kick character, and fuerte is such a shitty designed character that I wouldn't even wish him upon anime players.
 
Fucking around with p4u2... Yukari is such a rad character but it seems like she doesn't have half the bullshit of some of the top chars. Is s. Yukari good? I also drop her bnb after 5aa relatively often.

S. Naoto though she got the appropriate amount of kusoge tech.

Is this game actual kusoge tho? I feel like their implementation of shadow chars kinda turned their system upside down.
 
Yukari isn't bullshit, she just makes you block and suddenly she's +20 :v

Yukari is strong, S Yukari won't be strong until 2.0

No it's not kusoge. It has its moments same as every other ASW game but it held together by the duct tape of a good fundamental engine and player development.

I could see Juri in a Marvel game as well.
