Fighting Games Weekly | Jul 6-12 | Freuds Among Us

the only quip i have is that smash 4 if it is going to be on sat should be sat night. of the 3-4 games that arent playing on sunday, it should obviously be the main event

that said ppl in general are being hella whiney about this. "injustice finals at 9am" all over again. show up play your game have fun

It's unfortunate but it's true.

Also, I played through 2/3 of the DOTA 2 tutorial. I knew I didn't like RTS very much before but this point and click system is not suiting me very well. The camera system is also annoying me. Maybe it gets more fun and in depth once I play actual games?
It's a multiplayer oriented game so obviously yes.

You use the mouse to pan the edge of the screen. It takes some getting used to but once you get used to it it's second nature. Alternatively you can map camera controls to something like WASD but that puts fingers away from your main skills and item hotkeys which is a big no no.

Also it's imperative that you map select/focus hero on something readily available like F1 so you can look at something else in the map then instantly go back to centering the camera on your hero. Essential fundamental to playing these types of games.

This thing is shameful. The fans funding supposed pro players to get even more money. I thought this game was hype even without a pot bonus?

It can't be the main event on Friday because SF4 semi finals are.
It can't be the main event on Saturday because Marvel semi finals are.

Capcom!

This marvel pot bonus thing is irritating because it's only benefiting the people that created this campaign, which are the top players in the game expected to reach top 8. The tournament is still going to happen no matter what and it's not like bringing this pot bonus in will now suddenly raise entrant numbers for MvC3 since registration has already closed.

After being called out, Justin revoked his name from the money but there's still others that will be getting their hands on it. I see Chris G and FChamp listed, for instance.

$2,000 for a one hour MvC3 online session with Fchamp? LOL, get out of here.

Whoever is donating is a sucker.

Thanks for the info.
I'll keep at it. Gonna finish the training soon and head into actual games.

By the time EVO starts, people will mostly forgive and forget.

Also, lol at some people in the Smash 4 community blaming customs for the 12 PM start.

Edit: I just experienced my first disconnect to win a match on Ultra PS4. I am extremely salty right now. Fuuuuuuck this game.

Its not really a secret. Nothing I can talk much on either since its got very little actually built yet in engine or in maya. I had a BA in Animation but with the state of the industry I took a career change to industrial power generation and process technologies. As it turned out this ended up making me FAR more able to pursue my real goals in the gaming industry as an independent because it meant I no longer had to compromise on my goals and could just work on whatever I wanted with no fear of going hungry if its market didn't have as much appeal as say some new shooter or cell phone trend lol. My bills are paid no matter what the game ever does if it even does anything at all.

I do the CG, the engine stuff now that I got some, and slowly outsource hourly assistance from folks to help me build what I'm not capable of. QisTopTier is my head combat advisor and general bro on this because he plays fucking everything and because we mesh well when we just hook up and chat goals and ideas for me to work on. Neither of us is really loyal to any one game, but mainly just the genre and the potential some things have to make a good game. Got a lot of stuff on paper, a few things in CG, and a looooooooooooooooooong way to go. Nothing even close to playable given I work around a swing shift schedule in industrial areas, but its something I get to do and pour myself into.

Mainly right now I'm still finalizing a lot of art and basics and just touching the tip of the work on my models. Still need UV's, weights, rig finalization, and textures and thats before animation fucking one gets started. Still...I get to make it and can say fuck the haters if I want to. I got the freedom to polish it as long as I care about it and I care a lot. Maybe several years from now I'll have something starting to come along enough to show for it...maybe I'll just have a pile assets to redo again lol.

Its my after work sanity project that I like to work on. I hope someday I can have something that comes out and can entertain folks. Hearing how long it took the Melty Blood folks to realize that goal even after their first outing is pretty inspiring given how much it takes to even get that far. Makes me want to push harder.

I honestly don't think I'm the only one here who is trying to make some sort of fighting game project outside their daily life either.

Don't forget the stun system.

I guess this is the new way to beg for money even if your trip is already paid. Anyone that actually takes that money is a bad person

Didn't Markman try to do something similar last year on Teespring?

IIRC he Got shut down by the evo staff.
Now I'm wondering why EVO hasn't tried doing a Teespring thing. I guess they have enough sponsors and sponsor headaches to deal with. Might be difficult logistically?

The Marvel fund thing is absolutely fucking ridiculous, I am legit disappointed in people donating to it.

Also I'm late on this one a bit but Smash 4 got pretty fucked lol.

The GoFundMes will usher in a new era of scumbaggery that will help keep Marvel alive. For it is not the currency that the scene thrives on, it is the villainy.

I wouldn't be disappointed about the Marvel pot if they were selling something of value for the money :T

Like make a teespring or sell some prints or charms or something.

I guess we'll see in time.

Regardless, I'd much rather spend $22 for a T-shirt then 2 grand for an hour with champ.

Wait, is Justin not selling those wristbands at least?

Apparently, doing a teespring is no go a but just taking the money is ok for a pot bonus!

Guys those are stretch goals, not "you pay $2000 to get a personal coaching session with FChamp".

I read it wrong at first too but those are definitely stretch goals. So if they get $4k then Justin will make a video tutorial for his team.

The only reward is that $25 watch thing.

That said the stuff they are doing as stretch goals should be stuff they are doing for free to keep the community going.

you can do anything in the name of hype
See, I don't see how Marvel fans can see this as adding hype.
Pot bonuses are meant to be an incentive to draw in a bigger crowd. But in this case, the people are already set.

How does this help anyone besides top players, and only top players.
How does this add hype.

Cause they'd rather keep the money from the merch sales. Seriously, theres a lot of EVO merch at EVO.

They will continue to do things like this because people will continue to donate to them. Technically there is nothing wrong with it but some people have no shame in doing certain things whether right or wrong. I agree that there should be a better incentive for donating but like I said people will donate even if they get nothing out of it. That's what having fans are all about.

Not saying I aprove that reward, but it's different. You're giving money to help something get the resource to make a better product. A product that without your help, was not going to happen.
You can't compare it to this. Nothing assures you that the tournament it's going to be better... And tournament was going to happen anyway.

It's funny that justin says "this will definitely make the matches more hype and stressful at the same time." You can make the same by doing a side bet like Mango-Leffen did at Apex...

I'm guessing Justin will make the payout.

Man some one put 300$. Insane.

I doubt they'll make 10k, but I can see 4-6k

Way to no-sell my Shenmue 3 dig. >:|

So is the Marvel fund basically a way of saying "Give me more money!"? I'd understand if it was promoted by someone else entirely, but it being promoted by people who are virtually sure to make Top 16 is... I don't know. Sketchy.

Edit: Also, it isn't really hard to take money from people, you just gotta find what it is that will make people part with their money. Kickstarter has made me understand that.

This actually reminds me of when the community was actually considering crowd funding a Marvel patch if they were given the option.

Players like ShadyK said: "Give Capcom money so they can nerf my Dark Vergil... no thanks!"

Ah. That makes a little more sense.

I think Justin is the only one directly promoting it.

Edit: Actually that's not true, Angelic made a flyer.
