Fighting Games Weekly | Jul 6-12 | Freuds Among Us

Champ and Chris are obviously involved. Shocking that the two shadiest dudes are involved with a shady crowdfunding endeavor.

So who the fuck is holding onto this money? Justin? I mean I guess I'd actually trust him more than others to actually pay out the donated money to the winner.

The existence of this thing is the 2nd dumbest shit in the world. The actual dumbest shit is the fact that people are actually donating to it.

I don't think it's that shady as much as it is ill advised and poorly thought out.

Much like having Sm4sh in that time slot.

It's always funny seeing people actually buy into the Evo excuses.

If they're fine with the results why wouldn't they buy into the excuses.

Xrd at 9 am in the morning is for international audiences because the ideal time for Japan is 1 am on Monday morning. Yeah that makes total sense.

Cue Vulva saying we don't care about your emo anime games

EVO predictions.

Ultra - Not Daigo
UMVC3 - Not Chris G
Melee - Definitely Mango
Xrd - NeoGAF guy
KI - Definitely not an Asian guy
MKX - Ditto
Smash 4 - Beef
Skullgirls - Nobody cares
Persona - GB

The saddest thing out of all of this is that the best Marvel 3 team tutorial was made 4+ years ago with Viscant's Marvel 1.0 video (Clockwork's was good too but it was yet another Dark Phoenix video).

Since then I have seen very few amazing tutorials for the game. Among the best ones I have seen is a damn near hour long Iron Man tutorial (it's really good and much more than the character actually deserves).

The type of content these guys are gating behind pot bonus stretch goals is stuff they should be releasing for free. In fact if they should've just said "donate us money to help us make more Marvel 3 tutorial videos" then that would be WAY more helpful to the community.

Not really poorly though out when people are buying into it.
They clearly have an understanding of their audience.

I don't think Justin is shady at all. He was a very nice guy when he came to Peru and even paid for dinner the last day he stayed here with us. I'd go with poorly thought out as mentioned above. I'm sure there are other ways to "Bring the hype!". Also, aren't registrations closed already? How exactly are they bringing more hype? I'm sure people will still play to their full capacity in the tournament.

You know what he could do with the money is have some kind of salty suites. Let the fans and viewers decide on who they want to see play each other, etc.

I agree with this.

It's not just the best team tutorial.

It was Viscant saying "this is how I'm going to win Evo. Here are all the tricks and resets I'm going to use." and putting it out there for everyone to see.

And then several months later he won Evo doing exactly that.

Crowd Funding is one of those things where I just can't be bothered to develop strong opinions one way or the other.

If people want to see higher stakes at a Marvel tourney and are willing to shell out their money for it? Good for them. I'm not, but I do think it might light a fire under top Marvel players who don't really have other games at high level. Guys like Clockwork, Jan, Kane, Ray Ray, etc.

I like that it pays out to top-16. I like that it's on top of the bounties Justin already put on himself, Chris and Ryan.

It's Justin running this and I'm not sure there's a less shady dude in the entire FGC.

I feel like he's a dude that does all the semi-shady stuff a ton of people do (collusion, raffles, etc), but stuff never sticks to him because he knows when to hustle and when to lay low. I would never assume that he has legit intentions or take his word at face value, but ultimately he wouldn't do anything that would hurt his reputation.

Basically, I don't think he'd get involved with anything shady unless there were a bunch of other dudes that would look way more guilty if the whole thing falls apart.

same. I trust Justin only to that extent. He's done this collusion stuff before, I thought.

What happens If Justin ends up Winning; does the money get spread around or go to 2nd place?

I doubt it would happen, but it would be cool if it would go to the scholarship fund or something similar if that happened.

Like, it's pretty clear everybody involved just wants to get some money to support the game. That's cool and I don't think people should slam them for asking for money.

Asking for money a week before Evo with poor incentives this way is pretty absurd though. It sounds like a dinner plan drawn on a napkin scenario that wasn't thought all the way through. (Unless some random FGC politics happened and it had to be done this way)

The money gets spread to the rest of top 16.

I agree that it's poorly thought out.

For one, a group on reddit was already planning to set this up. Justin jumped the gun and made his own, so now it looks like he's trying to take money for himself.

No one even proofread it. People are confused about what the stretch goals mean because they're worded so poorly.

They could do way better on the rewards especially when they're asking for thousands of dollars.

What's the current pot bonus for marvel?

The shit he stopped doing once it actually became controversial?

Collusion wasn't a word in the FGC until three years ago, yet was happening a decade ago.

Collusion has always been bad. Just look at Soul Calibur 2 Grand finals at evo 2004. It's the reason why the collusion rule exists.

I'm not surprised at all that Justin is trying to screw innocent people out of there hard earned money

This is the same person who told Capcom not to hire Combofiend because Peter went to Complexity and not EG

I think Justin comes across as non shady since he actually has a legit sponsor. Also he stopped with the collusion stuff after it became controversial. He's far away from being FChamp or Fanatic tier.

Something tells me this is a group effort but since Justin has the most fans and best reputation, the burden was put on him.

This is exploitative for sure, but he's not screwing people over, they're doing that to themselves.

Is TheLastEmperor the new Astrolad of FG Weekly?

Astro could literally take a thread and throw it on it's head with one post. Derail troll monster.

Gotta find a way to motivate Chris G and FChamp to make content.

Edit: if anything, Nintendo is the only publisher not influencing the schedule.

So French Bread busted their ass on this series for a long time (over a decade!) and turned the game from a zero to one of the best damn 2D fighters made last generation. Too bad none of them have ever come out internationally, and none of them ever will because the Type-Moon tax is now criminally insane. ;_; Rumor is that they have a sequel/remake on deck to go alongside the Tsukihime remake that Type-Moon is making... so expect that in 20XX.

And for most people in this thread, that's probably way more than you ever wanted to know about some random anime fighter. :p

I still ask "Where's Melty Blood on Steam?" to this day directed toward random accounts that might have anything to do with type-moon.
