New update
Shenmue Salutations!

When Shenmue first came out, it was more real, more life-like than any game to have come before it. One of the people responsible for that feat was architect Manabu Takimoto. As the game environment designer for the Shenmue series, his real life experience as an architect helped create an immersive world that set the standard for realism in gaming.

Today, Manabu Takimoto talks about talks about his role(s) in Shenmue, and what we can expect from him this time around. Let's give him a big welcome!
Takimoto-san will be back for Shenmue 3. Working on the game, that is. Not in it. (Many belayed condolences for your cat by the way).

takimoto on yu suzuki:

There are plenty of people out there who can go from one to two, or one hundred to one thousand, but to go from zero and create something from nothing, there are few people like that.

That is his greatest talent, his genius.

pretty accurate description. the man invented genres and made lasting iterations on those he didn't.

So that's him huh? Ha, I actually recognise that character too.

Unfortunately less than $50K and 500 backers yesterday, still good numbers when compared to the campaign as a whole. The worrying bit is that e.g. Bloodstained only had one more day (corresponding to today for Shemue 3:s campaign) where funding dropped from an earlier day. Counting from tomorrow on Bloodstained ended on a steady climb.
Out of curiosity, why is that "worrying"? Is this a contest with Bloodstained?

if it becomes a trend and the campaign dies on its ass instead of having a boost at the end.

that said, usually the first 12 hours of a kicktraq day are slower than the last 12, but our first 12 today has been pretty steady right now and i wouldn't be surprised if we touched 4.6 million by the end of it.

edit: we just jumped up almost 2k in the space of a minute. whoah.

I truly loved today's update. I didn't know that the guy who blew Ryo off at the construction site in Shenmue was the game's real architect. That's really cool.

Comparisons with other projects are just for fun as the projects probably will end up on comparable levels. The worrying bit is, as Spaghetti wrote, if the final boost is much delayed, not substantial enough or in worst case not there at all.

Overtaking Bloodstained will mean a lot. Reaching the #1 Kickstarter game will be picked up by every gaming site as it is an easy write up. Shenmue gains instant credibility for every write up going forward as the product develops. It puts even more pressure on Sega to re-release 1&2. The Kickstarter is already wildly successful but reaching #1 would be huge.

today will hopefully be a good indication of the way things are going to go. there's still about an hour and a half until we hit 12 hours left of kicktraq's definition 'today', which is usually when the pledges start increasing.

Shenmue's objectives are a lot higher than Bloodstained, but right now, it could be very hard for Yu Suzuki's production to exceed IGA's. Because Bloodstained improved drasticaly backing the last days.

Someone on this topic has published a graphic comparison to show the evolution of different Kickstarter projects.

no, but it'd be nice to be vindicated as a shenmue fan if we get the highest funded video game kickstarter ever. beating out successors to "larger" series and the like.

it's not really about being better though. It's just that it'd be nice to have something to fire back when the calls of "NICHE TITLE NOBODY PLAYED" come around as they inevitably will during this game's development.

if I pledge 100$ I can chosse between a digital copy for ps4 or pc and only a physical copy for pc ? no ps4 ?

Seems to be going faster today.
yeah, good sign hopefully. i don't want to get too caught up in numbers in the final week though. i just want to enjoy the experience as everybody pulls together for a great celebrating of the series.

hopefully it'll get new fans in on it too.

Yeah it would a nice additon but I just brought a copy of shen 1 on dreamcast but haven't played yet
don't worry about completing it any time soon. you've got a good two and a half years for that.

I hope so too, want to see what all the fuss is about.
it's a game series of the like the industry hasn't really seen since. thematically and gameplay-wise. you do see bits of shenmue in loads of different titles in the AAA, indie, and even mobile sectors, but never collected together in the same way shenmue did it. that's part of the appeal at least.

Picked up a copy of Shenmue 2 for DC for a decent lick less than the average. I adore the first, its one of my favourite games ever, but I never played the second. I'm really excited.

I think I'm going to have to play Shenmue 2 in Japanese! I was recently playing through Shenmue 1 via emulation (I own both 1 + 2) and I thought the modded English voice over was supposed to be pretty good for Shenmue 2 but the samples are really poor due to the compression.

I could go with the Xbox version I own but then I can't carry over my save! I actually can't remember if that changes much of the game apart from your collection coming across from the original?

PAL version is fine with subtitles. It's was really amazing how the Dreamcast was pushed so much further with the second game. Streets are packed.

How come there are five different 10k tickets? Aren't tiers by amount, or can yo still have two tiers with the same amounts but with different perks and a backer could choose?

This is true. Though I think it also means a lot if the Kickstarter doesn't actually get #1, considering what a huge start it got and the biggest publicity of any Kickstarter ever by being at the Sony e3 conference. So yeah, I'm hoping this can get #1 to avoid more negativity, even though the Bloodstained Kickstarter deserves that spot IMO by how perfectly run it was.

It really needs another big push toward the end, as there was on the 3rd. To help the natural bump as people jump in before the close.

Went ahead and pledged (like many of you, this is my first time).

Pulled Shenmue II out of the closet to replay today. I no longer own the first one, but I'll watch that bonus DVD that comes with the sequel to catch back up. :)
