SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

Did anyone notice that they changed the $1400 tier to now include the $1200 tier instead of the $500 tier? Surprised they don't say this stuff in updates as it can easily be missed. It's a great offer and tier now for sure.

I'm slightly disappointed that they amended the page with the fan-made "What is Shenmue" video. It does a good job but I was under the impression they were working on updating the main video after this comment from Awesome Japan: "The finishing touches are being put on the new video to help spread the good word of Shenmue. There have been lots of great ideas and fan videos already out there and we would like to use them all if we could! But we have some great footage on the way to let everyone know about our favorite video game of all time." Not sure if they ever intended to update that, but I don't know. I kind of expected more.

They really need to add the ability to upgrade our pledges with extra items and copies of the game at this point. A bunch of people want both digital and physical etc, and it would be a good way of them making extra money from people who really cannot be bothered to make multiple KS accounts.

that video still might be coming for all we know. they didn't make a big song and dance about the fan video being the new "hey back this" video, so i assume something is still coming.

Yeah, maybe. Seems kinda pointless to have two videos detailing what Shenmue is though if they have already added the fan video. Was kinda hoping for one with maybe Yu talking about the game, so we'll see I guess.

Also, forgot to mention, but again, they really need to update the reward list at the bottom of the page. It's so out-dated. Maybe they intend to add even more reward tiers so they don't want to do it until they're all up? Fuck knows.
 
This is so weird. Why would they decide this is necessary? It's not like Doki Doki Panic -> Super Mario USA where it's kind of a new game for them or Final Fantasy USA where they originally didn't get the game. Did they make this just for Gaijin?

I'm not sure why shenmue US got released in Japan but I remember hearing a lot back in those days that some people in Japan really liked hearing English dubs in games, so it happened in many cases. Like how the kingdom hearts games got the final mix versions and that had the English dubs on them. I don't know how true that rumor was but I heard it many times . But it was probably also just an extra little thing they released just for the shenmue fans. Sega released lots of weird little stuff for the dreamcast in Japan those days. I really need to get a copy of it, since it's missing from my shenmue collection.

well they said something about new footage so that could mean something new from yu. or maybe even the game itself(!!!). it's a mystery right now though. i think they're gearing up whatever they have planned for the final week.

I could have sworn this got released because it was Yu Suzuki that liked the English dub so much he lobbied to get Sega to release it in Japan. Not sure how true it is though.

Looks fantastic. The architecture and layout of the environments all culturally referenced and designed is one of my favorite parts of shenmue. Really glad he's back. Wish we had had one modeler from the original staff, but then I imagine that field has changed so much. Somebody with experience of taking the character designers drawings to in-game model. They really assembled a great amount of the original's team though, hard to complain too much.

When you transfer your data, your entire stats of ryo in part 1 would brought over to shenmue 2. That includes all your scrolls, your moves, skill level, money, everything. It really feels like you are truly continuing with your life which makes the transfer absolutely essential as it increases the immersion factor. You ARE Ryo. Oh yes, it will also make you more angry when your money gets stolen. The game really plays with your emotions.
 
I think in the spirit of Shenmue III KS, I'll have to get an import of Shenmue II, once I get my DC and I shipped out. Only played the Xbox, but always been curious how it plays on DC and the idea of continuing from I's save sounds really cool. Of course, there will be the switching from english to japanese, unless I bought a japanese Shenmue I as well.

Curious, how was the voice acting received in Japan, does it have much of a reputation?

I remember reading that he did it because he likes and appreciated the work of the english voice over. Note that his english was not very good at the time so him Nd most other japanese would probably like it more than us. I'd have to say that the English Nozomi sounds MUCH better than the Japanese version and Lan Di and chai sounds awesome, definitely.

I do have a major question tbough... will Yu Suzuki or someone from his team re-work the Shenmue 1 movie? Not just turn it to HD but completely overhaul it for the execution of the origial movie was pokrly done. Heck, if he likes, i can make it for him, both part 1 and 2.
 
I'm playing Shenmue 2 right now on the Dreamcast. I'm not Japanese but I can understand it decently. I think the voice acting is pretty good but a native might find things to complain about.

Are you playing a Japanese copy of the game or do you have English subtitles on?

I don't think we need to worry about it losing steam. I feel like some people (as some Gaffers are going to do) are waiting for the last hours to be part of that big ending.

Very nice of you and some other ppl to back the game even though you never played the previous titles. We really appreciate this. I hope that SEGA releases a HD collection so everybody can play this masterpiece.

I put in $60 once the PS4 physical was included and I definitely plan on increasing my pledge at some point, but because I'm an indecisive sod I just can't settle on how high to go, and that's coming from an uber fan. I'm sure there are many more just like me who intend to either pledge (if they haven't done so already) or raise their sum right near the end.

I really do want that physical OST.
 
This morning I bumped my $29 pledge up to $80. I'm playing through Shenmue 2 again and it still remains one of the best masterpieces in gaming I've ever experienced. It deserves to live so it can finish its story. My emotional investment in the story and characters is high enough that I will enjoy using the phone card to call the old friends.
 
Pledged for 29$ today :) Its been quite a rough year for me money wise... For example I needed to make a lot of sacrifices to have been able to save 3/400 for my vacation at the end of august haha... But I did want to pledge even if I haven't played the games just for people who dream. It gives me fate that one day I will go through the roof a new Crash Bandicoot or Spyro is annouched :) Cheerz guys

Yeah, I was at $29 and bumped mine up to $60 for 30 on the 3rd. I plan on upping to at least $100 near the end of the campaign because I want the conversations, flashbacks and trial version.
