SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

The best I can do without the missus throwing a fit is 100 bucks. I'm thrilled to have my name in the credits but I would love a jacket or even a moves scroll. Ah the maried life.

I'm totally digging the new rewards. I hope that they all get snatched up.

Just tell her that Nozomi is your first love and she needs you.

I know it's painful, but I think for our mental health we should all adopt a policy of only checking the Kickstarter total ever 6 hours or so. Its always a nice surprise to see it jump significantly, and it eliminates the existential torment of troll pledging.

Agreed.

Made this quick revised reward chat that also includes which tiers have exclusive reward scrolls. Let me know if you spot any errors.

Wait a sec...the PC physical copy doesn't include a digital copy as well???? I'm kinda expecting the ability to register it as a Steam product...

Erevador.. we are already sailors.

If you really want to care, you should contribute via the KS. A bigger percentage is taken from Paypal, and the developer receives more funding by the Kickstarter. Donating through the Kickstarter would put more funds towards the development of the game. A lot of developers like Playtonic for Yooka-Laylee encouraged donations to Kickstarter even though they had PayPal setup.

It's nice of you to assume how much I care just because I want to pledge through Paypal.
If plenty of people clamor for a PP option in Kickstarters and we always witness a big surge in donations when such option is introduced, evidently there's demand and a reason for it. The bigger percentage is exactly the reason a PP option usually gets introduced later instead of from day1. But no, it definitely must be because we simply don't give a shit.

What's stopping you from making the contribution via KS rather than PayPal?

It's part of a wedding gift for a friend, so me and a bunch of friends (living in different parts of the world) have set-up a Paypal account with the funds we've pitched in all together and that we'll use (hopefully) for both the SM3 pledge and $5k or so for a trip around SM's locations.

is it an issue with debit cards/bank cards in your country?

Not an issue per se. Just for this particular pledge I can't do it on my own cc account.
It's between $3000$ and $4000, not peanuts and I'd lose a lot of money in PP taxes, bank fees and €>$... I'm not fronting that kind of money myself.

Besides, I don't think it's unreasonable to want to pledge via PP and certainly not to the point
I should have to explain myself or feel sorry if a bigger cut of the money gets taken that way: it's either that or no money at all. If that ain't possible and it's better to lose pledges altogether then get a smaller cut out of the donations then so be it, I already have my copy of the game reserved but it'd be kinda sad when we could've contributed so much more.

that's fair enough.

though, could any other mainland europeans chip in and help this guy? i'm in england but i don't have to pay any bank fees, taxes, whatnot, (etc) on my pledge. not sure where it's any different for you guys.

edit: nevermind. misread, if it's coming from paypal, yeah there will be charges to put the money into a bank account to pledge that way

lan di may be the villain of the shenmue series, but let's not forget the villain of shenmue fans.

neogaf's very own...duckroll.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. HERE WE GO AGAIN.

*duckroll punches Shenmue fans in the face*

Most of that money has been pissed down the toilet, because no one is going to release a game today with assets from 2001, and everyone else who worked on the first two games will likely not touch the series again so any experience, research, and work they put into the games when they worked on them is useless now.

I love how Shenmue fans have no sense of reality. Makes it all the more fun to hit them while they're down. :D

More importantly, Yakuza staff want to make Yakuza, or Binary Domain, or whatever it is they want to make. They don't want to make some shitty has-been series that none of them care about. Fans can go cry moar.

It is. But duckroll punching you in the face is not too much to ask!

Oh trust me, it makes it much better when I just keep punching Shenmue fans in the face. :D

I would love to hear it. Please tell us more!

who has a sense of reality now?!

thread where duckroll pooped his pants is here: http://neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=457677

in fairness duckroll did make a good point when all that "SHADY SONY DURRR" shit was happening that shenmue fans get shit on constantly

i heard it referred to as a sacred cow earlier. if that's true it's certainly a tiny one. sacred beef burger probably.

I think he's referring to the stretch goals that won't be reached.
video games scale though. just because they aren't hit doesn't mean the game will be incomplete or not fully realised. they're going to make the best game they can no matter the money. $5 million or $10 million.

Pledged $60 for PC physical copy. Huge Shenmue fan. Hype died down a bit knowing the game won't be fully realized.

Do you mean, the hype died down when you found out that Shenmue is meant to be 4 or 5 games because the only thing required to make the game fully realized from Yu Suzuki's point of view is the $5m tier which we will definitely hit. Everything above that is extras and reimplementing the stuff that made Hong Kong and Kowloon possible. Honestly, I wouldn't mind if the game isn't as huge as Hong Kong. I've been doing my current playthrough Shenmue 2 for over a week now and still can barely find my way around Hong Kong.

It would be nice to hit the battle tweak tiers though. Hopefully we can pick up the slack for a lot of things after the Kickstarter ends.

Lol, oops. Here it is revised with a key.

Would you consider doing alternating colors so it's easier to track up to the cost?

It's Yu Suzuki that started this on reddit... I'm sure that the game will be great, and the best they can with the budget, but I don't think it's false to say that his vision for Shenmue 3 won't be fully realised.

Anyway... Shenmue 3 is happening, and I'm sure it's already good news for fans.

I guarantee you if you told any studio "Hey, you now have $20 million instead of $10 million, $50 million instead of $25 million, etc to add things and make even more improvements, can you?", every single one would say yes.

Yea, a bigger budget obviously means more features, a bigger game, but you wouldn't call other games "not fully realized" would you?

well it depends if you are referring to the actual quote or what people saying he said.

"I will say this: if we reach the $5 mil mark, one of the things I really want to do with Shenmue 3 will become a reality, at $10 million, it will truly have the features of an open world."

if we weren't going to hit $5 million you may have a point, as one of the things he really wanted to do wouldn't be realised.

Anyway, I'd prefer a Shenmue where everything is carefully crafted with a tighter experience than one that is procedurally generated. I love and prefer Shenmue 2 but I like Dobuita better than Hong Kong or Kowloon.

As long as I get to get to know Shenhua better, the entire game can be in a cabin for all I care.

Dude, none of those are even among the most crow-devouring posts he made on the subject. Feast your eyes on this beauty...

That came back to haunt him so bad.

The crow served to mods after Sony's conference was freaking amazing lmao. Best of all is that the mods took it like champions. After all we're getting games!

Just replaying Shenmue II just now and got to the book carrying in Man Mo Temple. Does anyone else really hate the guy you work with or is that just me? I've always hated him for some really unknown reason...

You mean the creeper who secretly photographs Fangmei? He's pretty hateable.

If 5M$ are not enough, Ys Net could divide Shenmue 3 in multi episodes, like Telltale Games.
So, if Shenmue 3's first chapter is a success, he'll find easily money to produce other chapters.
