I also get the social pressures of not wanting to be different from your peers in your habits.

Those are the reasons I can think of "snitches get stiches" being a thing. On the other hand, I care about the people in my community, and I care about my students. If something is harming them, I want to know so I can help resolve the situation. A lot of students tell me things, but none of it has ever resulted in them getting in trouble. I am pretty good at using the information I get in a way that benefits everyone. I know that some teachers are looking to get kids expelled (I know two students that were on a "shit list" and got written up for everything they did - and didn't do - and they are gone now), and I understand there's paranoia there, as well. No idea where I'm going with this. I'll just end by restating that I don't think referring a public forum post to Bish for verification is a big deal. If he's being honest, he's verified, and we all get to be hype. If not, I presume that Bish has a talk with the dude about expectations on this forum, and he learns not to BS knowledge around here. Both of those seem like good outcomes to me.
