Satoru Iwata Has Passed Away

I saw this before work earlier, and nearly dropped my phone. (Been a bit teary-eyed on and off all day, to be honest!) An amazing man with a wonderful legacy. I'll miss his presence at Nintendo Directs, and especially miss those fantastic Iwata Asks. Such a incredible loss.

I will miss him, in his Nintendo,i will have a place in my heart where he can live indefinitely for the love which he put into my soul?

I left a question mark, so Iwata my not end but to continue to live thru his fans

Hopefully he's been grooming a successor to at least carry on the idea.

With no Yamauchi to defer to the wishes of, or an Iwata who marches to the best of his own drum, I honestly wonder if it's a matter of time before Nintendo starts making decisions in more "conventional" directions.

Nintendo going third party.... more or less likely after Iwata's passing? More, if anything.

This much is true. Nintendo won't be the same at all.

Already the world feels a little less brighter.
 
Was just reading about how Iwata was the one behind 'Balloon Fight' and the thought occurred to me - I wonder if including the game in the recent Nintendo World Championships at E3 was Nintendo honoring Iwata before they lost him?

Just seems to me like they must have kept this under wraps for a good while...

The future is so uncertain. Nintendo's moves on mobile under his management have managed to get numerous thing that is wrong with the platform sets right. But it was all but a first step foray of Nintendo into the mobile and it could easily reverted back. The moment of his death is very unfortunate. At least I hope he already have choose the right successor.

Definitely finding some comfort in the tributes people are paying and the way people are remembering him. It's nice to see. And yeah, I feel a little worried about Nintendos direction after this. It won't be the same.

The one thing that stood out to me the most, above all other gaming executives, was that Mr. Iwata came from a programming background. He knew not only how to run Nintendo as a business, but he understood exactly what the craft entailed, and I feel this gave him a unique perspective rarely seen in someone as high up the chain of command as he was.

Other than that, I'm truly at a loss of words over hearing this news. I never imagined he was in any immediate danger with his illness, but I suppose he didn't want to make a spectacle out of his issues. The man was a true visionary in the industry and I certainly hope Nintendo will do everything in their power to carry on his legacy.

I don't see it that way.

I think maybe we'll see more mobile games than Iwata had planned, but their direction for the next few years is likely set now. The share buyback they did after Yamauchi's death likely keeps them safe in case of the very unlikely situation of an investor rebellion.

I think they'll get more conservative, sure, but I think Iwata started Nintendo down a transitional path that they're going to see through no matter what now.
