What the ... This was really unexpected. R.I.P. and all the best for the family.

The first thing I'm doing practically every day is visiting GAF with my smartphone and the first topic today was obviously this. Really, really not a good thing to start a day. :(

Still can't believe it ...
 
One of my friends in NJ tells me that if there isn't a Memorial up by tomorrow, he will go to Nintendo World Store to put one.
 
It will be sad as we lose Miyamoto and possibly even Nintendo itself.

These men, for all their successful and unsuccessful diversions from the market, dedicated their lives to instilling the core values of why we play games.

It doesn't matter how many units were sold. It doesn't matter how developed a competitor's online service was. It doesn't matter how many times gamers indicated they wanted more explosions and realism.

These visionaries continued to say "Let's get back to basics. What is truly important? What is it underneath the best games that enthrall us?"

And no matter how many developers rejected the types of games Iwata proposed, they all knew he was right. The gaming industry is a business, but Iwata was fearless in his rejection of what he saw as misplaced priority.

A pink blob with eyes swallowing an enemy and taking his powers is like a lever of joy cranked up to 10, and you can feel it whether you're 7 or 27.

If dedicated game consoles become a thing of the past at one point in the future, I hope those who loved and participated this industry will yet remember that in Iwata and Miyamoto were the very soul of interactive entertainment. You can't put that kind of audacity into an NPD chart. God rest his soul.

This is such sad news. Been having trouble dealing with it all night so far. Had some people over tonight and I just found myself staring into blank space, upset.

This was so unexpected, I thought he got better.

Thank you Iwata, for everything.
 
What a loss...

I hugely respected him. The things he did were nothing short of incredible.

RIP, Iwata-san.
 
I am saddened by this. It is so unexpected. I have been critical of Nintendo as of late, but their contribution to the industry is unmatchable. I grew up loving Nintendo and still do, and that shows how much impact the company has. May Nintendo live on and continue to bring us the charm and happiness, which can only be found in their games and carry on with their own ideas that are different in this stale industry. We thank Iwata for his wonderful time at Nintendo.

What are your thoughts on Morimoto being a possible "groomed heir" so to speak?
 
Today’s a day for playing lots of games together as a family until you can play no more, only to do it all over again tomorrow. And as we do that, those games will light up our rooms. That’s how it should be, we can’t keep them in the dark because in my mind, more than anything, that’s what games are all about: keeping the house lit up.

I'm truly shaken. Came to me out of nowhere.

I'll leave here one of my favourite quotes of him, from his GDC 2005 speech.

“On my business card, I am a corporate president.
"In my mind, I am a game developer.
"But in my heart… I am a gamer.”

I don't think anything can sum up this man better than this. His passion and understanding of the medium are unparalleled. He was the CEO Nintendo deserved. He will be remembered for all he did for video games.

Rest in Peace Satoru.
 
I am devastated by this, I can't stop crying all morning :(
I am very emotionally attached to Nintendo, they are my favorite company in the world and they would probably be nothing without Iwata.
Rest in peace Iwata, thank you for all the wonderful gaming experiences, you will never be forgotten :(

I wonder when we'll see a statement from Nintendo. I understand they're in shock right now, but the silence is deafening. A little page at the front of Nintendo.com would be nice, like what Apple did for Jobs.

Absolutely. I'd like to have posted myself of course but when I say it was unbelievable, I really mean it's unbelievable how touched people are, how much they need to come together.

I mean remember for most of the people posting, it's very late on a Sunday night. I'm just in awe.

Evilore provided a sensible reason for this pages back but I understand how it got buried. Basically they're looking into it.

In this year's E3 they frequently mentioned a "transformation" they'll be going under, which makes sense with their movie to mobile (which I'm sure would've been met with a lot of anger from people had the news come out after Mr. Iwata's passing). I think we'll see many changes in the near future but we must remember that 1) even though Iwata was president many decisions were not made by only him and no one else, and 2), these changes have been planned for quite some time already. It's not like we'll see the company change completely in a matter of months, nor do I expect anything from NX to change significantly in any way.

Probably tomorrow. He passed yesterday it seems but they only released the press release early in the morning the day after over in Japan.
 
I give Nintendo a lot of shit but there is a giant hole in my heart right now. I don't want to believe this is real - that this is all a bad dream and I'll wake up at any moment. Iwata...I will always remember you...
 
What in the hell?? So suprise and so sad. Did not think for a minute. When I saw the thread title. . . RIP my man. So sad. My thoughts are with his family : (
