Good actors research parts though. Skepticism is expected but you may be underestimating him just a tad by speculating he'll be completely ignorant of the character he'll be playing, one of the most popular in fiction.

I'm hardly a Courtney fan (dude is dull as wood sometimes), but he played a great smarmy villain in Jack Reacher, which is how Captain Boomerang is basically, so he may surprise.

If the movie ends up going sideways though, it won't be because of him. Plus he's got those mutton chops.

Changing things so that The Joker literally tortured her into existence (if that's actually what happens) seems like it's going top rub a lot of people the wrong way.

Fuck, Leto's Joker actually makes my stomach turn over (in a good way). It's the exact sort of revulsion you should have when viewing the character. Ledger's did it too on first watch, but it wore off on multiple viewings.

I actually really like Quinn too. They were never going to do the classic Sorkin voice, and from Tara Strong's irritating impersonation of late I'm glad they didn't try.

Harley already seems to rub people the wrong way. She's essentially in an abusive relationship and many people seem to have an issue with that.

That being said if this is what turns her I'm not really against it. She could still have fallen for him but was trying to get him to change. This could be the Joker just taking advantage of her.

This could also lead her to having a split personality. Tortured so bad that she creates the Harley persona in order to deal with and make sense of it all.

Well considering the title of the film is "Suicide Squad" and yet the teams official name is "Task Force X", it's to stop the dissonance between the title of the film and the actual content. Suicide Squad has always been a nickname for the squad made up by the members. Did you cringe at Tony Stark's line in Avengers: "If we can't save the world, then we'll sure as hell Avenge it", because that's a hundred times more on the nose than this.

never seen the avengers but I assume it works because those films are less self serious so a line like that could be delivered with a wink and a nod. That's what I'm saying about the tone of the film not matching those moments.

His redemption arc is a pretty big part of the early new 52 Squad stories.

I like Boomerang, he's a sarcastic asshole that functions as a joke character put in these serious situations. I mean he works when he shouldn't, not that he's straight up comic relief. Plus I want to see him in Flash movies.

I can tell you right now slipknot is not coming out alive. Diablo neither. Flag may be up in the air, but I think it'd be better to off him in the sequel.

I could see her crossing over into Justice League Dark but not so much the main league movies. Deadshot, Joker, Harley, Croc & Boomerang have the most cross over potential.

A History of Slipknot being a Suicide Squad member

A stronghold of Manhunter robots is discovered deep in American swamplands not far from the Suicide Squad's own base located in the Belle Reve prison. Slipknot and the Squad, including members such as Bronze Tiger, Rick Flagg, and Captain Boomerang are sent in to escort the "Baby Huey" (a car-bomb laced with an experimental high yield explosive) on a search and destroy mission. Slipknot discusses the 'arm band bombs' with Captain Boomerang. These deterrent devices are placed on the less trustworthy members and are set to explode if the person goes too far out of range. Captain Boomerang states that he believes the bombs are fake. This is enough for Slipknot. When he discovers his talent for strangling is useless against robots he makes a run for it into the swamp. The device begins beeping and flashing an alarm but Slipknot ignores the warning and once he gets out of range, his right arm is blown off. Boomerang, who had not been sure of the bomb's reality himself, thinks 'better you than me'.

Probably not. She's not an obvious candidate at least, more likely Katana would eat it in this movie. I wouldn't mind her being in Justice League Dark.

That movie really needs to cast Matt Ryan from Constantine as Constantine. Give him a proper shot with that character, because he was the best part of that show.

They're... sigh... they're not... it's pointless arguing with you, I know, but Marvel's been anything but safe in the past 7 years. Are the movies narratively similar on a structural level? Sure. Doesn't stop them being tonally diverse and interesting to watch though.

Exactly. I hated the new Joker when that first pic dropped, but seeing this trailer sold me instantly. It just looks fresh and sometimes change is good.
