PlayStation Mobile is shutting down, let's do a final recommendations thread GAF!

Yeah it loopa, ia likw if you are counting the same numbers over and over, I guess it made more sense in my head :D

But I quite enjoy Saicoro, you can see it was probably made by a few people with a shoestring budget but you can see some heart went into making it

Nice, I'll be interested in hearing your impressions since it looks interesting

Can anybody comment on the replayability of Haunt the House? Really like the art style but it seems that after you finish it that's it and the $3.49 price is holding me back.

That's the main reason I didn't pick it up as it looks cool but for $3.49 you want a bit more, a reviewer mentioned it was a single playthrough game mostly and said later on it turns into a masher...but he liked the concept and seemed positive about the game generally otherwise.

I ended up buying Forevolution though and it is weird in a good way and seems like there's quite a bit to the mechanics, but it might not be on the US store anymore...

I'll throw in another recommendation for Adventure Bar Labyrinth. It's a great little Mystery Dungeon style game, with lots of replayability and nice aesthetics/music.

It is completely free, with an optional cash shop that doesn't really sell anything insane; just convenience options, really.

Then that's weird, because it vanished for me ages ago. This is my Music/Rhythm category

I've definitely seen other people mentioning that it's gone on reddit as well.

Hmm.. it's still in my US store. BUT... I think i bought got the demo like 2 years ago and deleted it... so perhaps since I 'bought' it before it still shows for me. but it's definitely there for me.

So what are the chances that Sony could bring back these games at some point? Would licenses or other agreements prevent that or is it potentially something they could revisit awhile down the line?

Pretty much zero. The platform of PSM isn't worth the cost of maintenance for them - nobody buys games. Going back later and making sure everything worked correctly would never be cost justified in a million years.

We're not talking PS1, or Vita, or PSP where there are beloved libraries. We're talking about PSM, with a mountain of trash and a few gems, where almost nothing is bought and even games people do want are considered too expensive at $2 or $3, the same price people insta-buy stuff they'll never play on regular PSN.

They'll never bring it back, and sadly, 99.9% of vita owners (let alone anyone else) will miss it, and 90% percent of vita owners probably won't even know it came and went.

Buy Lemmings and kiss it all goodbye

The actual PSN store did well without it. I saw Lemmings and that was it.

Isn't there a vita native version now? Is the PSM version better or something?

EDIT -- Anyone know if there are good games for little kids?

Well i went ahead and pick quite a few games after reading posts, watching videos and a couple I forgot to buy:

d6j9ZHX.jpg

8 games, plus a free game and the unlock key for Bullion Blitz. That brings my total to 32 PSM games on my Vita, and I am still considering a few more :)

I still see Cytus Lambda in the store, but it's a moot point - the in-app purchase to unlock the game doesn't work anymore. It needs to connect to some server that is no longer up.

I picked up console saga too.
All of Thomas Hopper's games seem to be on sale for .49 (smart!) and his games are generally well reviewed.

I think I remember liking Bullion Blitz... how much is the unlock?

How is grid survivor?

Also..anyone play cubixx? is it really good? or just good? (i like qix style games)

Nice, I'll be interested in hearing your impressions since it looks interesting

Ambition of the Slimes (~$4)

I have only played the tutorial, since we're on a deadline and I've also got Operation Abyss going. I really like it so far. It plays like a SRPG -- you have a bunch of slimes on your side, and there are enemy humans trying to kill you.

There are terrain considerations (height advantage, etc) as well as traditional elemental system (grass, water, fire). Your slimes are fairly weak, though do have some skills and differing abilities (you gain new types of slimes - one might have an ability making them better at taking over hard enemies, etc). However, you can use your slime to take over a human (chance dependent on levels) and then you control that character. If you match elements, the human gets a big power boost upon take over. Spells and skills are limited -- for example, if a human wizard uses a spell they can only cast twice, if you take it over you've got one cast left.

I don't know how complex or deep this game gets... but based on the tutorial, I'd say it's a BUY if you srpgs, especially if you like unique ones. it's pretty cute too -- when you take over a human, your slime jumps into their mouth and the humans eyes turn all possessed.

So...definitely recommended, even though i've only put 30 minutes into it. I'm definitely glad I bought it, and that's really what matters.

Yup, at the $,49 price made it was a no brainer to pick both Console Saga and Super Tank Poker, plus I heard good things about them

Grid Survivor is pretty good, it's set up like Geometry Wars except your ship is always moving forward and you control the ship direction by using left or right with the analog stick; R fires and L activates the slow motion mode that slows all enemies and you can use it to mow them down and/or re-position your ship to a safe spot, the more you use it the more it will take to recharge.

I played a couple of games and is really fun and while it could use more polish and content at $.49 it is an instant recommendation.

And Bullion Blitz is fun! and the unlock key for both Puzzle and Quest modes is $1.29 and gives you 30 levels for each of them, well worth it in my opinion.

Oh man, I do love SRPGs and unique mechanics I think you may have sold me on it.
Are there any additional in game purchases? If not I think I'll go for it

I can't find Surge on the Australian PSN store for some reason. Too bad I probably would of splurged. .

Just bought a few games mostly at around 65 cents each. Games like Oh, Deer! Alpha, Bloodred Wyvern 2, Grid Survivor, Console Saga, OUT OF MIND, Sheep in Hell, Radiant Flux and a bunch of other freebies. I have two other PS Mobile titled folders that contain some pretty decent games and I know at least two of the new lot are decent so I'm hoping for some good fun.

Ah, okay. Thanks for the info.

Also..anyone play cubixx? is it really good? or just good? (i like qix style games)
I have no idea why Cubixx is so addictive, but I spent hours last night playing it when I only intended to give it a try (I got it from a promotion some time ago). It just clicked, and then I spent hours carving out chunks of boxes while trying to avoid the hazards. It was somehow very satisfying. And it was very much a 'just one more try' game, where that one more try always became 'I was doing better! Just one more!'.

I can't find Surge on the Australian PSN store for some reason. Too bad I probably would of splurged. .
It's under Puzzle for me on the NA store, towards the bottom, and costs $3.29.
There's a native vita version called Surge Deluxe for $4.99 on the regular store though, so if it's something that interests you you're probably better off getting that.

I don't know how complex or deep this game gets... but based on the tutorial, I'd say it's a BUY if you srpgs, especially if you like unique ones. it's pretty cute too -- when you take over a human, your slime jumps into their mouth and the humans eyes turn all possessed.

Sold! :)

I tried out a few free games last night.

Justice Legion and Rival are free games from teasoft with paid unlocks. Justice Legion's unlock was a $0.49 ticket of some sort, so I don't know if there's more than one. Rival's was $4.29.
I bought neither because unfortunately I didn't even have it in me to play through the free parts. Justice Legion just drops you in it and lets you flail around. And flail I did :| Rival has a tutorial. Both are awkward, unintuitive, and not really fun, so I can't recommend them.

The other game I tried out last night was Spirits of Elduum from Califer Games (free, with a $0.99 unlock for more levels). You control two creatures at the same time (moving one moves the other) and have to maneuver them to powerups so you can defeat demons without knocking the light one into voids or either of them out of bounds. I've only played some of the free levels so far but it's quite charming, and goes from really simple to surprisingly tricky. Music is pretty good too. I can see myself spending more time on it so I'll probably pick up some more levels today.
It's free to try, so if that sounds interesting I recommend giving it a go.

No one has mentioned Eufloria Adventures? It seems to be a PSM exclusive at the moment and there are no solid plans to port it anywhere as all the news I could find from the devs revolved around Eufloria HD (and apparently an RPG coming out?). It's pricey but it along with Tokyo Jungle Mobile (and Gunhouse, etc.) seem to be the most "high-end" PSM titles.

A little title that I have seen NO ONE recommend is Aqualibrium. I checked it out since it was free and the visuals looked nice - like an old DOS game. Same reason I picked up Life of Pixel on PSM instead of PC. It has a full game unlock of 99 cents I believe. You play a guy in a jetpack who needs to place blocks and open valves to let water into a drain below without it hitting the floor. The main menu and music looks and sounds like something from a crack keygen program but the actual gameplay is fun (and there is no music during levels). I'm really surprised no one has tried this.

Galatic Junk is also a free game (there doesn't seem to be an unlock, just the option to buy a Millenium falcon skin for $9.99 and maybe currency microtransactions) where you control a ship with broken engines and your only mode of movement is the recoil from your gun turret. Avoid/shoot enemies and asteroids and see how far you can get.

Also, Switch Galaxy PSM is better than the native Vita version.

If you are looking for another visual novel to play on Vita than Fragment's Note is well worth it. It is a more standard VN with routes to choose from corresponding to each girl (there are three decisions before you are "locked" into a route including a BAD END where you are too indecisive about a girl - think Hisao's drunken rooftop fall). It looks to be a cliche VN as the game starts with the MC being turned down by a girl but then his daughter from the future comes back to the past out of nowhere in order to "change his life for the better." The rest of the game revolves around choosing a girl (your happiness) and trying to find out what happens in the future.
If you pick anyone but Haya you're a horrible person.
Here is its VNDB article.

Great idea for a thread. Very sad to know that in a few days all these games will be gone forever.

I wrote an article about the closure of Playstation Mobile a couple of weeks ago, and during my research asked the devs of Oh Deer! if they would release it on other platforms. They told me that the plan was to release it on 'everything that has a controller', so that's some good news at least:

http://quitorcontinue.com/end-of-the-road-for-playstation-mobile/

However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't buy it now and just wait until it comes to your platform of choice...these devs deserve your support!

- Shovel Shuffle: Fun and addicting puzzle - Made by a VitaGaffer (F2P - Cheap Hard Mode DLC). DISCLAIMER - I helped with the PT-BR localization.
- Super Crate Box: Great game.
- Magic Arrows: Clever Puzzle game
- VitaBounce: Yep, buy it.
- Switch Galaxy: Way better than the POS native vita version.
- Mononoke Slashdown: Muramasa-style action game. Very pretty.
- Magic Planet Snack Deluxe: Trippy puzzle game. I don't know if a native version will release in the future.

And support the PSM to PSN games as well

- Aqua Kitty DX: The best PSM game got even better on PSN. Full 60 FPS, added bosses and powerups.

I didn't like Haunt the House that much. The only fun is in seeing what the ghost does when possessing different objects. There weren't game mechanics that were interesting only figuring out that you can scare on a few objects that's not immediately obvious

I can't say I liked Forevolution either though (too simple) so maybe its just my taste in both cases.

I did a search and couldn't find it and scored the site, yet I missed it. I'm an idiot.

Thank you :)

Dynamite Dude

Posted this before, but you guys might be interested. I made this game, and it is the first complete game I've ever attempted. It is essentially a single player Bomberman clone, I wanted it to have online multiplayer, but obviously couldn't finish that with the time limitation. But I made the best single player version I could within my ability. Yeah it seems pretty basic, but I tried to cram as much value as possible for $1. I recently localized it for different regions and languages, so it should be available for countries that speak English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Japanese. There's 50 levels total, then you unlock a level generator and a mode where you get to play with a ton of sprites.

Hopefully will try to get it on iOS eventually

Oh, btw, some of my favorite PSMboile games
Bullion Blitz
Picbox
Rebel
Beats Trellis
Hermit Crab in Space

Nice write up, I don't agree with some of the rankings but it's a solid list.

Iam considering Switch Galaxy, many positive commentd and it seems the native Vita version dropped the ball.
Decisions and little time left...

Almost forgot a recommendation -- fuel tiracas -- it's by futurlab, who did velocity and surge games, only .49 i think. Oh, it looks like they did something called 'beat slider' too, so i'll go buy that too.

ok... sold on Cubixxx! Thanks for the writeup (somehow didn't quote it, but whoever wrote up a bit on it, thank you)

Has anyone played Dark Quest? I read some decent reviews online, but at $5 i need someone to push me over the edge.

Also -- does Mononok Slashdown have an unlock? I can't find it in game, but it was free so i expected something.

Yup, at the $,49 price made it was a no brainer to pick both Console Saga and Super Tank Poker, plus I heard good things about them

Are there any additional in game purchases? If not I think I'll go for it

Ambition of the Slimes doesn't have any dlc from what I can tell.

I bought the unlock for Bullion Blitz; I've had that on my vita for years, never deleted it because i enjoyed it, so it was an easy decision.

Having a hard time finding Grid Survivor in store... will continue looking, but do remember what category? Will buy.
EDIT -- it's in arcade, not action or shooter.
Super Tank Poker is a great idea, but has too many issues for me to recommend (and i bought it for like $3 way back... .50 might be worth it)

I can't find Surge on the Australian PSN store for some reason. Too bad I probably would of splurged. .

As everyone else said, buy the native version!

It is nice to have it on the road but the PS3 version is vastly superior.

I have puts tons of hours into the ps3 version.. but I also very much like the psm version. it simplifies movement to a grid, sure, but it does it really well.

FINAL (probably) haul:

Bought -- Ambition of the Slimes, Cubixx, Grid Survivor, Console Saga, A Healer only Lives Twice, Picbox unlock, Oh deer

dl'd for free -- zoozoogo

Already owned and love: Tokyo Mobile Jungle, Rymdkapsel

Already owned and like -- fuel tiracas Adventure Bar Labyrinth, Bike Rider dx, gunhouse, rockboshers dx, super crate box, gun commando

ok... sold on Cubixxx! Thanks for the writeup (somehow didn't quote it, but whoever wrote up a bit on it, thank you)

I got the Mini for Cubixx and it was a lot of fun and didn't think I need the PSMobile version.

Kinda weird that you will still be able to buy Minis but not PSMobile games.

Damn, didn't know there was a mini. Would have bought that instead.

Minis were always fully integrated into the PSN ecosystem. PSM has always been separate by design, due to all that android/etc integration, and why we needed to download runtime packages and constantly activate them.

Minis just 'run', like psp games do. I don't think it's native, but it might be -- odds are it's using the psp emu to run the psp minis but I don't know for sure.

What are the PSM visual novels other than Fragment's Note?

There's the Miko Gakkou games. Sanae (Adventure, $0.79) is fully voiced with a single route, Second Year (Action, $1.49) mixes in some sort of rhythm shooter thing, Kaede (RPG, $7.99) is 3D and is meant to have multiple endings.
And there's Disillusions Manga Horror (Horror, $0.49) which I think counts but is rather rough looking. I haven't played it.
Don't Die Dateless is... well, whatever that is. I... tried it. I will never get that time back.

K-Pop ni koi shite (Adventure), Dead End Valentine (Adventure), and Re:marriage (Simulation) are only in Japanese.

Are Yu-Nama and No Puzzles Either effectively the same game, or are they different?
If I were interested would I be better off getting the PSM version ($5.99) or downloading No Puzzles Either and paying for the $9.99 'remove the free to play junk' pack?

Did Nunnageddon get removed from the store? I can't find it, and the link from their webpage takes me to a listing without a buy button.

I'm baffled that these games will stop working and never be available anywhere in any form (since there's no Vita emulation/console hack so far) currently and there's officially no way that (some of) these games will work even if you already downloaded them.

Sure, they might not be very good (or any good at all in some points) games, but people paid actual money for them and other people made them. Just leave them up there.

That's like saying "here, all the Xbox Indie stuff is all gone from existence". It's crazy.

Magic Planet Snack Deluxe

MwFjiOI.jpg

You control a worm and try to collect while avoiding enemies, once you collect enough to hyper letters on the bottom so you can turn all items and enemies into snacks for more points.

It's a fun score attack game that gives you that "one more round" itch as you play, it's only 0.79, oh and you can play it vwetically in hot dog mode.

Thank you so much for featuring a game I got to work on. Honored to be remembered and to share in the history! Cheers!

Thanks to Kyle Reimergartin for making the original freeware versin of the game way back when.
We're hanging on to our source file so that one day in the far future, people will still be able to play MPSD on their Vitas! :)

also you can play like this on VitaTV / PSTV lol

you can find the rest of our things we are working on here http://wolfgame.com/

That's not true, the official way to keep playing your downloaded PSM games is in the link in the OP:

http://community.us.playstation.com...pdate-on-PlayStation-Mobile-PSM/td-p/45023971

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) has announced that PlayStation®Mobile (PSM) will cease distribution of content after July 15, 2015 and in-app purchases/re-download of purchased content will be discontinued after September 10, 2015.

Consumers will still be able to access and play the PSM content they have purchased, after September 10, 2015, by activating their devices using the instructions below. Your device must be connected to the Internet in order to activate your device. Previously, content was automatically authenticated whenever the device connected to the Internet, but this will not happen after September 10, 2015.

Steps on activating your device:

For PS Vita users: You will need to complete the device activation process by performing the steps below between March 10, 2015, and September 10, 2015:
Go to [Settings] > [PSN℠] > [System Activation] > [PlayStation Mobile] > [Activate] > [OK].

For PlayStation®Certified device users: You will need to open up the PSM app and launch any purchased PSM content between April 10, 2015 and September 10, 2015 to complete the content authentication process.

Please ensure that you have downloaded all of the games that you want to keep. After September 10, 2015, you will not be able to re-download your purchased content.
Devices that are not authenticated prior to September 10, 2015 will be unable to access previously purchased PSM content after that date.

Thing is, when the Vita goes bust and you get one to replace it, the PSM games won't work.

Got to say I'm really enjoying Forevolution but I wasn't expecting too complex a strategy game - managed to find videos on the game as it was previously called "I wanna be god of the forest" on pc...but it's pretty fun and has decent unique mechanics with a nice style too - very cool game imo. Working my way through the challenges, think I'm up to 10 but I spent about an hour just in freeplay getting used to the game, ended up without any animals and was playing it as a garden sim :P But the actual game is fun for me...the haunted house game does sound too simple though.

Thing is, when the Vita goes bust and you get one to replace it, the PSM games won't work.

That's true, I didn't think of that. Hopefully the Vita firmware will eventually get blown wide open like the PSP and someone will get them working through homebrew.

That's what we have to rely on, which sucks - they might not bother with psm stuff...

I agree with several of the recommendations on here, but I also need to share my favorites (in no particular order):

1) Life of Pixel
2) Rebel
3) Little Acorns
4) Passing Time
5) Tokyo Jungle Mobile
6) Picbox
7) Gunhouse
8) Shuttle Quest

IMHO, PSM's legacy lies with it's ability to demonstrate the potential for mobile gaming on a device with physical, precise controls; and my first 3 picks above are just straight-up proof of this. LOVED them, especially Rebel and Life of Pixel.

What if I'm in a coma in the hospital and I missed the window to activate my purchases? I'm screwed.

Ok, let's be less dramatic: What if I'm not 100% following these events and don't actually care that much about the system as a whole, but I enjoy playing the games I bought and miss the window?

That's crazy.

I agree, I just wanted to clarify that there was a way to keep playing your currently downloaded PSM games. Ideally (short of keeping PSM up), they would have just removed the authentication requirement entirely.

Anyone here have Rodem the Wild? It's under Simulation (btw everyone in this thread should put where you can find these games bc of PSM's garbage lack of search)

There's zero non-trailer footage and it's hard to find impressions of it beyond Brandon recommending it in his best PSM game Kotaku article. The price is a bit winceworthy by PSM standards, but it looks stylish as hell and is made by the developer of Bokosuka Wars (??!!?!) and the upcoming Earthbound-y looking Baiyon game and reminds me of Tail of the Sun kinda?

Is this something that will amuse you for longer than a minute? The website makes it seem fleshed out so I think I will bite the bullet and get it just for the novelty if I know it'll never be ported anywhere else.

Also is the music in the game good cuz I like the music in the trailer and am picking up very slight Kimura/Lovedelic vibes.

I think you're forced to activate your system when you play one of those games anyway, so it would be hard to miss the window if you actually do play these games.

I keep seeing Rebel mentioned. can someone sell me on it?

I'm curious about the first question, too.

Re: the vita game, I paid the 9.99 on release and think it was a great game, worth my $10. It's a full unlock.

Yeah. I don't understand why you need that "activate" step you will never be able to do in the future.

I believe it's all because of that second layer of 'runtime' package. That used to require authentication on a fairly regular basis --- most likely imo to prevent massive piracy on Android devices, but also possibly for Vita security reasons. My guess is that reworking that runtime package to work without any authentication opened up security issues or something (for example, theoretically being able to run spoof psm software that might someday be able to break into the vita proper), so they simply did a quick fix to allow a 'permanent' authentication. Yes, it's uglier than no authentication at all... but it's a case where it's so ugly that I'm guessing system security may have been a serious consideration. Just guesswork though... it's the only reason that makes any sense to me.

I agree, I just wanted to clarify that there was a way to keep playing your currently downloaded PSM games. Ideally (short of keeping PSM up), they would have just removed the authentication requirement entirely.

See above. i agree it would have been preferable, but i'm guessing it was off the table.
now, why they are taking away the opportunity to authenticate new machinces in the future is beyond me [unless it's related, I suppose]. Maintaining a server to download them 'forever' would also be nice, but would cost money... though honestly, i wish they'd do it.

Nice set up! Hot dog mode is the only way to play.
It's a fun game that is not recommended often, hopefully more people give it a chance before it's gone,

Just bought a full page's worth from select recommendations. Gosh, if I could finish the games I already own before buying ten more that'd be great.

I'm definitely looking forward to playing them all, don't get that wrong. :)
